It's pretty much a improved SW1 with worse story and all the bad things of Diablo 3 and Borderlands tacked on. Random loot drops in the form of statistical upgrades are terribly unexciting and it doesn't seem like there's any semblance of build variety.
I don't really see much reason to use weapons without a high base DPS, granted I'm playing on Insane because I'm a fucking masochist so you probably don't have to deal with bulletsponges and elemental fuckery too much, but many of the faults in SW1 like hitscan enemies and explosive environments every fucking where are still present. Sometimes SW2 works but sometimes it doesn't

So let me get this straight: Mario and Luigi decided to become plumbers in Regular Mario Bros. after several escapes in Old and New Super Mario Bros. but then Mario quit to become a carpenter and dumped the Princess (or he was friendzoned) and dated another girl who got kidnapped by a gorilla. Mario then enslaved the gorilla after figuring that he could make loads of money from a circus act until DK Jr. kicked his ass and then Mario must have heard about all of the kings that were mutated so he thought he could make a fortune off of rescuing them (or, if Gay Theory is to be believed: he decided to take up acting after his failed circus act).
