I have a 500gb disc full of 100+ PS3 games, 20 PS2 games and around 30 PS1 games. Let's do the maths. 5$ x 100 games = 500$. Get the PS4, the only downside is having to pay for PSPlus to actually play online in most games, and the controller on the PS4 has a fraction of the battery life of the one from the PS3, they really should have let users have the option to turn off the stupid fucking LED light, it. Other than that, the PS4 is superior in every single way(unless you want to play older games, in which case a lot of them are available for download on the PS store but not all of them).

PAL TVs ran at 50hz ensuring that games released in the PAL would run 17% slower unless properly adapted. NTSC TVs ran at 60hz and most games were designed with this in mind.
Eventually PAL TVs would be able to display at 60hz through the development of PAL 60 but not all TVs offered this which is why some games still offered the means of playing the game at 50hz mode.

The superior version is the PAL version, if it's properly made. It provides a much higher resolution at the price of a slightly lesser frame rate. It's still fluid as anything above 35 fps.

Partial emulation. If you play say 2D PS2 games you have no problem. When you play 3D PS2 games you get from time to time framerate dips. I know this because not only did I have the original European PS3 but I also imported the CECHA01 which is the full PS2 hardware version.

What's interesting to note is that I've heard some interesting things about the CECHE03. I hear that games like R-Type Final doesn't have the horrendous slowdown that the PS2 and American PS3 version has. So I suppose it depends what you want to play at the end of the day.

I would recommend changing your filters on your LCD screen for PS2 games through a PS3.

Manual loading is the best thing for reliability. You can clean the drive without disassembling the console (don't touch the lens!) and a slot-in motor which isn't there can't break and eat your discs.
Power Consumption of the SuperSlim is great (just 60 W) and the fan is practically silent.
You need to install a hard drive though, the 12 GB of pre-installed flash memory won't get you anywhere.
It's still PS1 compatible.

Why does piracy have to be a deal breaker? I already have PS3 disks I've collected over the years that I would like to play and piracy doesn't give me much on a region free console. I just don't game enough anymore to really benefit from having an entire gaming library opened up to me.

It sounds like for all the cut corners the Superslim is a good option to go with. I struggled with the choice because all of my friends own slim models and they seem to be the "best" model according to most review sites. It's certainly the version that a lot of people gravitated towards if they weren't into the PS3 for the linux or backwards compatibility. But since I have a PS2 and dedicated linux box a fat isn't tantalizing.

I also see complaints about the poor quality of the Superslim and noise but then I get personal review (and statements ITT) that say that it's fine and very quiet. If it was just an early superslim model problem that would make sense because most recent reviews I see don't bring up any noise problems.

I did that on PC during the late 90s to early 2000s. Was the best thing ever, because otherwise I would have missed out on classics like the entire early LucasArts library, Doom and other all time classics.

If you can get it new, you will have no problems with it. You can even still get the original screwed vertical stand. Only additional DS3 controllers are hard to acquire now.

If you don't game that much anymore you can get casual games, for free, and some neat homebrew stuff like Movian and Multiman in general.

All PS3s are compatible with PSX games, as every PS2 and PS3 have a PSone right built in.
The nonJP PS3 models do only software emulation for PS2 titles which has been dropped from later models.

Fully hardware retrocompatibile PS3 have been released in the US, just not in europe where it's partial hardware emulation then it was dropped to only software emulation later with later models.

This will be shitted on, but buy D3 the fullversion on ps3. It is really good to play couch-co-op.
Warning though, it is really shit single player, they fixed nothing. But "D3: Raper of Sinuses"ultimate edition is (sadly) worth 20€, and fun. So there, my tip.

CECHA01 are fully retrocompatible, they have the EE+GS chip from the PS2 slim on the mobo (top right in pic related), you can find one for 200-600 bucks.

CECHB01 are also supposed to be fully retrocompatible but I've heard otherwise a couple times so I'm not 100% sure

Let go, it was just a grind fest that played like a slower version of monster hunter.
The things you grinded for were just costumes, weapons, and custom town improvements, if anything I'd blame it dying because of sony being Jewish with WKC's "DLC", which were just passes for items already in game and character recustomisation tickets. Guess how fucking much those tickets were, no really guess.
$5 for minor changes Hair etc. and fucking $10 for a full customization
Not only that, but the single player game itself was blatantly unfinished since characters were just written off like nothing, and they literally made the true final dungeon online exclusive. Look at the world map, everything past Becca was new in WKC2, notice how there's large chunks of land without any locations as opposed to the WKC1 side.

And to top it all off, the free expansion that finally LET YOUR AVATAR BE THE PROTAGONIST INSTEAD OF THAT FAGGOT, LEONARD was never released outside of Japan.

It all honesty, your right it was too ambitious to be on consoles, they should have done something like PSO2. It's a shame sony hates fun and making money.
