Tfw today I sign up for my local college to start studying software engineering to learn to code games

don't want to stop being a neet, but being a neet is fucking shit.

you already have a thread for this

just don't study "game development", that's for suckers who will at best get slave jobs doing QA for 60 hrs/wk.

Learn how to code, get a corporate job writing normalfag software, and save up money so you can gamedev in your spare time or when you take a break between jobs.

Nigger
Double nigger

Why not instead listen to this fellow?

here's the pensum, it's not geared towards games and has the proper math shit and even shit like AI.

You fucked up. Colleges don't teach you shit besides the very very basics. Step #1 to doing anything slightly above basic shit is linking libraries, and they don't even fucking teach that.

Which degree you get doesn't matter. Employers will not ask you about your education, the fact that you graduated college is enough.
What does matter is your experience, and college is a great way to build your portfolio. If you want a game design job, you'll have to get an internship, and being a student gives you the luxury to decide which companies you want to work for.
You can develop games without a degree, but understand that it's going to be insanely competitive and the odds will likely be against you.

...

I'm not american, so my colleges aren't indoctrinations centers for socialists.

sorry.

Bullshit I know many who've gotten into gaming with no college and you don't need college to make a a good portfolio what you need is to actually know what the fuck your doing.

I just wanted to be a professional video game player.

Why don't you give up your dignity and pretend to be autistic like all NEETs and sign up for social security fraud?

No. Let me give you advice from 20+ years in industry. Get a math or science degree (physics). Take some basic applied coding classes as electives. Take applied mathematics courses like advanced diffy-q's, chaotic systems, numerical analysis where you can make use of and improve simple C coding skills. Learn scientific computing - floating point issues, recursive algorithms, ensuring stability and accuracy of significant digits etc. You will be able to make cash anywhere in any industry. You will not be easily replaced by pajeets and java. In fact avoid java altogether.

If you get a physics degree with optics lab experience and some coding skills game companies will send a sedan full of women to suck your dick and hand deliver your resume.

math people can't code and their only job option is to be a math high school teacher.

butthurt java monkey detected

College programming classes are notorious for being slow paced shit. If you want to learn to code you're better off doing that in your spare time. Sign up for algorithms classes if anything.

Or just get some form of certificate.
Employers fucking love certificates.

Be prepared to drop out or stay a couple more years. Not saying it's tough but depending on your TA or professor and if the course really is in the engineering department they will make you shit out projects out of your ass. Gave up and started my own websites and software dev. I still wonder what my life would be like if I continued on and got my bachelor degree.

I know how to code, I need the math classes, algorithsm, computer architecture, networking, computer graphics and other CS classes.

learning how to do triple integrals wont teach me how to code a graphics engine in opengl and maybe optimize a raytracer.

fucking newfags who know nothing.

If you have social and presentation skills, networking skills, and you know the latest needs of the industry, then yes you should have no problem getting an internship.
Colleges actually want to push you to get a job, and give you classes to build those skills. It's not necessary, but it helps if you take advantage of their resources.

I've been off work for a week and spent the whole time at home, and already I want to fucking die. I don't know how you niggers do it.

If you're a normalfag or suffered working as a wageslave then you'd understand.

PFFTTT Mate if anything college makes you worse off these days if this was 10 or 15 years ago then I would say yes but not now.

we farm all that shit out to pajeets. industry would much rather have applied sciences and math people with some coding skills, especially scientific computing skills. people who can understand the underlying problem and devise solutions, then go oversee the pajeet code monkeys.

but sure, if you want to compete with 1 billion shitskins on the low-tech end of the coding ladder, go ahead.

This is the whole reason why most of our softwares are getting shit full of bugs. Your chapati makers might seem good but under pressure (which is always the case at work) will fuck up most of the time. The other spectrum is how lazy they can be once they learn the company policies.

you seem to forget I want to make my own games, not be a code monkey.

Sources?

I feel for you codefags

You're not thinking outside the box!

Ezpz

nope idiot, I'm going for the math classes and CS classes.

I don't even like math.

got quite a hearty chuckle out of me actually

Have you made a video game yet?

I thought teachers weren't supposed to imply political affiliation

yeah, but shitty 2D garbage.

I need to get the math classes.

study in canada or move to mexico faggot.

unless you're in harvard or MIT, your university will be just SJW garbage.

Somebody fell for the STEM meme.

Listen lad, do what I do. Do a computer science course and keep game dev as a hobby for now. If you don't get a job working on games, you have a ridiculously wide field of jobs to go to.

Is American education just that bad compared to something like Canadian education?

Or go freelance/shareholding and free yourself from resposiblities. No pressure and you're the king of your own fate. A quarter million isn't too hard to make when you know how the economy and suckers work and how to live humbly avoiding leechers and major taxes. Also avoid women who have materialistic desires.

I feel like I'm stuck in purgatory.

It's unavoidable if the college/uni have art courses. Basically good chance any college you go to will have SJW activists.

kek, looks like colleges are finally teaching practical skills

But will people make a big deal out of it in public, or is it solely confied to art courses or ramblings on Twitter/Tumblr?

How will millennial art students express their (((artistic))) suffering?

you stupid, naive dumbfuck

>its livable, have enough to pay bills and have $6000 cdn saved up so like $25 usd

Nigger, there is nothing in SE that you can't learn better from a book and lecturers are typically terrible. Read SICP and you will beat the majority of programmers, then specialize from there.

I've saved up £10,000 working part time as a call handler for a local medical service. The work done:money received ratio is very good, but the job itself is fucking horrible and makes me want to die.

You really don't understand the appeal of being a NEET until you get a job like that. It's a workplace where fucking everyone is trying to sink you for even the slightest of mistakes you make (or even when it only seems as though you've made one).

Les écoles des grenouilles est un mensonge et tu devrais te tuer. J'apprends français suelement pour dire ça.

I'll recognize that cover even if I suffer dementia.

Only slightly more than they like Indian programmers. You're going to get shafted if you don't have a tangible portfolio, varied work experience, or a degree. Preferably all of the above.

Certificates are garbage unless it's for a glorified technician's skill in networking, security, or computer repair in which case the CCIE is the gold standard. A+, Network+, or any other CompTIA certificate is equivalent to throwing edible confetti on a multi-layer cake. If the cake is shit, it isn't going to make a difference. Practicing the arts of bullshitting and charisma as contextualized to a job interview would go a lot further.

Sorry to double post. If you don't believe me, all you need to do is ask yourself: "Would I give a shit if I owned a business and some guy walked in off the street with this piece of paper?" If you're smart the answer would be no. I'd be looking at your attitude, related work experience, body language, and personal distance from me (do we have a mutual friend? are you a rando? are you family? etc.) – this is so I could get an initial perception of your character and judge potential competence.

Wew.

Ultra wew.
