It comes across to me as insecure to judge a work of art based on the politics and opinions of the creator. I can disagree with a creator's opinions as much as I want and still like their art. Much like how I can like Mark Twain's books despite how he was a socialist.

Painkiller is a better Serious Sam than Serious Sam.

Not really, you really fight 2 or 3 types of enemies at once in Painkiller, and most of them just run straight at you. Painkiller HD scrambled them a bit and you have more ranged enemies in each level but most of the game is locked behind DLC

The whole point was for Duke Nukem to not have a real personality. He was supposed to be a generic way to get away from the image of nerdiness. They overcompensated.

Have a look at Shadow Warrior. It was politically incorrect, and therefore better than either Serious Sam or Duke Nukem. There exists ABSOLUTELY NOTHING COUNTER-CULTURAL IN GAMING TODAY. So fuck games.

Now, I'll say this, Croteam are fucking wizards, Serious Sam runs at 100FPS+ on a toaster laptop through WINE. But I never understood the appeal of the games, the amount of love in them is apparent, there are great easter eggs, the music is pretty good, I love the environments, and the graphics are great too. But the core gameplay just sucks so much. You walk from big area to big area, lots of enemies pop out, you kill them and continue, and the plot just doesn't exist. It was alright for a while but I just lost interest about halfway through the second game.

1st & 2nd Encounter are among my favorite games. I wish teh newer ones were able to capture that level of fun. 3 was bogged down by hitscan enemies and bland levels.

As for the character, I REALLY want to like Sam. They jsut need to give him a good writer. Cause they try so hard to give him one liners that just come off as so bland. Perhaps that's part of the charm, but it feels like such a waste.
