It was fixed in the PS4 release but it's really no excuse, one of the biggest NISA fuckups ever.

Not that I find this at all unbelievable for NISA, but wouldn't that be grounds for a lawsuit? The translation was Atlus's own work, I'm sure Atlus's license agreement for the PS1 localization didn't just hand it over to NIS.

Actually NISA handled the western adaptation of this game.
I had to IMPORT THE NA VERSION to avoid any possible damage they might have done.
For a brief period of time they considered having NISA handle european translations but thankfully it seems like they're simply cut out of everything now, Odin Sphere was the last incident.

NIS pulled a bullshit loophole on the employees so they could get away with not giving them raises and fucking over their pension, they essentially fired and rehired the people that made their company just to save a few buck. That's why a lot of their former employees work for Idea Factory/Compile Heart.

Giving NIS money is just as bad as giving NISA money.

I love The Witch and The Hundred Knight, it's such a charming game. Very pretty visually and the story was interesting enough to make me want to continue playing. Has some incredibly dark elements during certain moments, including a giant ripping a girl in half with his dong in an attempt to rape and impregnate her. Gameplay was kinda grindy but there was enough variety and a diablo-esque loot drop system for weapons so it felt fun.

If you ever want to play this game, I highly recommend you avoid the PS3 version as NISA fucked up the localization and introduced a game-crashing bug that only got worse the longer you played through the game. PS4 version appears to be fine, though.

I don't want to shill it or anything but you can currently get the PS4 version on PSN for $20. Might be able to get a physical copy for around the same price if you look around online.

While not nearly as brutally difficult as they used to be, they're still very solid SRPGs that manage to keep an identity while innovating from game to game, trying new ideas and retooling old ones, and going for all SR Points in the Z series is still a respectable challenge, albeit not Alpha Gaiden. At this point I'd say it's basically Fire Emblem but better in literally every way with the exception of no permadeath due to plot which is a shame, I'd love to just kill off certain characters and be done with them, but so it goes
