GAME 2 is underrated

It's depressing how many games this can apply towards.

GAME 3: SoS was significantly better than the earlier games. Cutting the fat and tightening the mechanics alone makes it miles better than its predecessors, not to mention better graphical quality enabling the artstyle the devs of original wanted to go for.

Fact

Old dev team is simply not there anymore. There are 1-4 surviving members of the team. It might as well not be the same studio that made the game in the first place, yet you had hopes for some reason ?
You'd know this had you looked at the team that made the game, but you didn't.
The company you liked is now big and stagnating the genres you liked. It is killing and eating the smaller competition that has a chance at making something decent.
The rest of the small competition is nu-devs who have banded together in hopes of survival like most weaker animals do.
It would take a miracle to get a game you like in the genre you like so much.

GAME 3 is a fine entrypoint into the series and it does away with a lot of the bad designs of GAME 1. take off your nostalgia goggles

I don't get the hate for GAME 3. Most people say GAME 2 is the best but I think it's only because it's the first one they played so they have fond memories of it. GAME 1 clearly was better than GAME 2 and like you said, GAME 3 is pretty much like GAME 1 except without many of the problems the game had.
