Is it ok for a game to be technically bad, or at least unpolished, if it still manages to be fun and entertaining? As a piece of entertainment, it's still fulfilling it's purpose - but that kind of reasoning cuts awfully close to walking sim justification.

Pic related. It's pretty exploitable, far too easy on normal mode, and the combat isn't nearly as tight and fluid as it feels like it deserves to be. Special moves like the Pole Dancing, Chainsaw Blaster, and such feel too situational and poorly implemented. But fuck me, I'm actually having fun so far. Even if I am only using pretty much one combo 90% of the time.

How many cardinal sins of vidya are you willing to forgive so long as the ride is entertaining? What games do you consider shit on a technical level, but still recommend?

I dunno, ask MGS2fags.

I'm willing to forgive a lot if 2 conditions are met

1- It's not a game i am waiting for or expected to be good

2- It involves half dressed young girls

Oneechanbara did nothing wrong

Pic unrelated i'll assume

This is how you spot a nigger

Stop being a pretentious twat who expects games to be artistic and technical achievements.

If it's fun, then that's that.

Games can be entertaining even when they're not necessarily good.

A game that's overly easy is often easier to forgive, since it's not like you're getting frustrated.

All of them so long as the game is fun. I'm playing a glitchy bugfest early access game which has the most cancerous community of any game in history because it's all it needs to be: fun.

Unconditional yes.

I want to fuck Juliet.

Those are the real two factors that can really be tossed out the window when it comes to a game being fun.
As long as it's engaging, then it's a good game.
People like to argue that subjectivity is a thing in the world of video games, but that simply is not true. Maybe when it comes to genre, but a person who hates sports games cannot deny that NBA Jam is a great game.

E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Fallout: New Vegas answer that question. There is obviously a cutoff point for bugs and shit but so long as the game is fun enough to negate that, nobody gives a shit

sure why not

best game

What truly makes a game is whether it is fun or not. If you're having fun playing the game, then it has done its' job.

Games are a combination of so many factors and talents that it's hard to attribute any given thing into whether a game is enjoyable or not. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another.

That said, that only thing I can't stand is when a game deviates from it's core gameplay consistently and overly relies on a continuous stream set pieces to add variety, which is one of the main reasons I have a hard time getting into the Metal Gear Solid franchise. Just let me play the fucking game already. All I want to do is sneak past bad guys, not fight fucking boss fights

I don't forgive the localisation.
But this game is one of my all time favourites.

STALKER has so few bugs after 1.6 or so update and FO3's/nuVegas' only glaring bugs are random crashes, which is reduced by updates and a small mod.

Is that the Tia one?

I take it that it's still possible to enjoy it despite the obvious changes?
If that's so, I might give it a try. I was supremely let down by the Xenoblade X localisation debacle.

Yeah, the gameplay is still intact. Just some of the NPC's are beyond shit with dialogue, voice and memes. But some are still great. Almost like they weren't fucked with.

What's this from?

Drakengard is the epitome of how far retards are willing to forgive a shit game because it entertains them.

Speaking of dialogue and memes.
Poor paper mario

That's horrible, especially for a paper mario game.
PM games were always great because of their humour - sticking twitter speak in there just takes away from the charm.

There is another one with luigi in his car and a toad referencing the luigi stare meme, if you can call it a meme. I honestly didn't mind that one, but fam and normalfags ? fuck off with that shit.

Way to make the game feel outdated with your stale memes, treehouse

you see, this shit isn't funny when it's being pushed over and over. memes originated as sort of pseudo injokes, in that you would only see them on the internet on x community. plastering them everywhere just makes them played out and annoying.

then again, 4ch and 8ch have slowly come into the limelight in the past few years. as much as I miss muh sekrit club, it really isn't anymore. i've heard people talk about both in normal conversation, and i even heard the radio host talking about 4ch on talkback radio the other day. this is why shit like doge, pepe etc all became normalfag may mays quite recently.

when people complain about the board quality dropping, this is why.

niggerisms in gaming

why?

Found the stare reference. I personally don't think this is that bad honestly.

treehouse

that is actually pretty clever

Because normalfags love to read the "funny" niggers tweets/tumblr post they see on their OC stealing websites

Alpha Protocol was an incredible ride despite the terrible AI and ridiculously imbalanced skills.

Good presentation can turn an otherwise bad game into a good one.

Also webm for context

A lot of Holla Forumss favourite games are technically pieces of shit but have something underneath that makes them good-great.

STALKER, Witcher, Yoko Taro games etc.

didn't they say the big bad WASN'T going to be Bowser this time?
So they threw in some bullshit technicality

Nope, that's never okay.

...

ya

ebod-241

game had its moments, most of them bad thou

I didn't like Witcher much actually. Witcher 1 had clunky combat I get bored with really quickly.

Soft-porn goes a long way.
I'm not saying they aren't fun or enjoyable, but as for grading games go, I consider it straight out cheating.

Thank you! :)

I enjoyed the game while thinking the story was pretty simple (compared to XC) but had some interesting twists/reveals in it but I'm still annoyed at the localization changes/removals.

I feel like the premise of game story might be better recycled into being adapted for another medium though (Eg humans fleeing a destroy Earth and setting up a new home on a planet that doesn't seem normal) Or maybe I'm just reminded of Terranova and I think they should have done more with other allied aliens being playable party members.

Finally I was impressed that whoever designs the crazy fucking landscapes from XC must have been employed at Monolith Soft still, because the different layouts/design of each massive continent are really impressive (like Sylvalum). It's even more impressive to relize this massive game was just a TEST to see how well MS could make a game in HD.

Absolutely. If a video game isn't a fun game, then there's a 99% chance you missed the whole point unless you're purposely trying to make it bad. Same goes in reverse: if your game looks like an early beta but plays well, it might not do it any favors for sales but it can still be good in its own right. Pic related.

Drakengard is a mixed bag. The Aerial combat is great but the ground combat is fucking balls. The game can get pretty repetitive especially if you decide to go for all 5 endings. If the game didn't have such batshit insane characters and lore, I probably would've dropped it quite quickly.

Suda 51 in general creates games with more style than substance. No More Heroes is one of my favorite games from last gen, but the combat system was really basic. Things like the visuals, music, characters and feel of the game made up for where the gameplay lacked in depth. Same could be applied to Killer7, Shadows of the Damned and Killer is Dead as well.

In my opinion, this does not apply to walking sims is that they have no gameplay. The same experience could be achieved through a different medium. Take Gone Home for example, there is no difference between watching a lets play, reading a description on wiki or playing the game as there are no fail states and your decisions effectively have zero consequences. Which is why even though the walking sims may be enjoyable to some, it still fails as a video game.

I'm not familiar with LC but I think having moves be very situational is a good thing as it requires you to actually think and use your attacks intelligently instead of just mindlessly mashing one attack button and winning no matter what.

...

Is there any good fap material from Lollipop Chainsaw? And I mean from the game itself, not Rule 34

All of them. A game being fun is the primary goal. A game can be shit in every other way, but as long as it's consistently fun for long enough to justify its price, it's at least a 6/10 automatically.
Pic related was riddled with flaws, but I still loved it because it was a lot of fun and had tons of post-game unlockables.

No, this is how you spot a nigger. OP's dead on, as I wouldn't herald that game as any sort of masterpiece either, but I also did enjoy it quite a bit.

's

You are just experiencing the fact that mediocre games of yesteryear can still be fun, they just aren't perfect. Hell, we had a thread recently talking about how Splatterhouse wasn't all that bad.

If new games have done one good thing it's outline that games that were in that 5-7 area back in the day were actually worth playing, especially when compared to what passes for good today.

If it's fun and entertaining then it's not "technically" bad, you mong.

Xenogears is a fucking mess but it's hailed as a classic.

No, fuck Japan, fuck lazy ports, fuck no optmization, if a game doesnt run locked at 60 frames all maxed on my machine i dont even bother

if its not game breaking bugs, yes, polishing a game too much ussually also means that a bunch of cuck numales testers cried to make the game as bland, unexciting and unchallenging as possible

So many games nowdays try to be fun or entertaining and fucking fail while still having visible flaws that when actually flawed but fun game comes out i'm sure i could forgive the imperfection

...

This game is terrible and I absolutely, ironically love it.

It's repetitive and boring as fuck, the boss battles were literally the only good thing about it.

thats pretty funny

thats just awful

I think the key thing about a game is;

Either of those can carry a game even if it's otherwise bad, unpolished, basic or janky.

On the other note, people are often willing to overlook a game's major flaws if the rest of it is good.

Yeah of course. I enjoyed dead Rising.

You don't get to enjoy games here.

When did Holla Forums get so cucked?

muh fun is only detestable when arguing that a game is good or discussing matters of taste.

This thread needs more Juliet.

God dammit. It would be fine if Paper Mario had always looked like this, but it just feels like the devs completely missed the fucking point of the original artstyle.

Make sure it's on PC without DRM; so the modding can begin!

Y-yes? Yes. This is true.

there's nothing wrong with judging a game based on what it got right so long as you acknowledge the flaws
After all, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is much beloved for its story and structure and it was a broken unplayable mess on release

Holy shit, they're salty.

if you have to ask i question our need for your presence here

Their precious copyright powers are complete shit.

There are tons of games i enjoy and have fun with and they're not in any way perfect.

Holla Forums just has some weirdly high standards unless its some sort of niche japanese fapbait waifu game or something made back in the PS2 era or earlier.

It is never ok. But it can be acceptable.

Deadly Premonition is a fantastic game that also complete garbage.

define ok

See this nigga gets it.

How the hell Samurai Warriors 4-II passed under my radar for an entire year without my knowing blows my mind.
