Been parsing through some gameplay since Mafia is a series I'm kind of fond of, and wow, this looks like shit in almost every way.

Even putting aside the fact that the game's sole attachment to it's title is the fact that you fight the Mafia a lot, it's cringeworthy how often they bring up racism, one of the primary enemy types seems to be a gang analogous to the KKK.

Gameplay wise it doesn't fare well at all either. The open world seems really static and boring, the civilians don't react to anything you do unless you start randomly shooting them, and you can't interact with them aside from violence. The stealth looks terrible, enemy AI is so shit that I've seen the player stand right in front of enemies multiple times, in well lit, wide open areas only for the enemy to be completely ambivalent to his presence. They also barely use cover or tactics in combat, if at all. Animations are nice but prone to fucking up too.

Also that HUD is fucking terrible in every way. Your main objective is on screen the whole fucking time, never goes away, and takes up like a third of the screen. Same with your weapons selected, the map is huge too, I've also noticed that the same tutorial telling the player how to do 'brutal executions' has popped up like fifteen times over the course of an hour.

Oh, it also has nigger sense, like every game released in the last year or two you can see through walls by pressing a button.

It also feels like they took the Ubishit route of open world design. You have to take over districts by repeating the same four/five repetitive actions dozens of times.

It reminds me of Watch_Dogs in a lot of ways. No wonder 2K are trying to keep the release under wraps, they're in too deep to cancel it, but they want to pretend it doesn't exist.

They're doing a bad job of that as every Gamestop I went into had a cardboard cutout for Mafia 3.

Of all the things to complain about, this might be the weirdest. The road isn't unusually wide, especially for the southern U.S. And I'm not sure what you're suggesting with the decorations:width requirement.

The game has much larger issues. I watched a fair bit of a stream of it last night, because I wanted to give it a genuine chance and form my own opinion. In general it seems utterly devoid of challenge, and the people and missions lack character. The voice acting is actually surprisingly good, sometimes to the point of jarring with the mediocre sound design as a whole, but the material is so repetitive and cliche that it sucks any interest out.
Outside of gunplay, I actually got an AssCreed-lite-lite-lite vibe from the game.
Except briefer and easier than AssCreed and with no parkour. If you're discovered and the guns come out, it switches to being more of an awkward and generic cover shooter.
There's a bit more to it, but not much from what I saw. There's favors and shit you can call in mid mission, but for the most part doing so just makes the piss easy missions easier and often unnecessarily longer.
What I saw of the story was directionless and meandering. If there's an upside, it's that it didn't pander as much as I expected in terms of racial content (again, from the limited part I saw), but I get the impression that this is more because of the overall lack of cohesiveness than anything else.

Putting it all together, the game is a particularly lifeless and repetitive example of open-world dreck that doesn't attempt any depth in any of its gameplay mechanics.

It always irks me when games or movie don't use period appropriate music for their settings. It really breaks immersion. I remember that Great Gatbsy movie with Dicapprio used fucking Jay-Z of all things.

Mafia III reminds me of the recent Berserk anime because it has troubles with using an ill selected soundtrack but it has a lot more problems than just that when you examine it as a whole.
