The actual issue with The Hobbit was the fact they used the same quality 3d models as would be used with 24fps at 48fps making small imperfections with light blending between the live action and CG stand out and make everything look fake.
There are a couple of 3d artists / film experts that do great talks on this as they want to see higher FPS film but the industry needs to learn how to do it right.
