Because it shook to the core of their profession it questioned their morals values and ethics. Instead of being civil rights activists working to change the gaming industry for good they were outed as another group twisted by corruption for money.

I think there are a multitude of reasons for why they're so assblasted over it. I think one of the biggest is that they really felt like they were in charge. They though that they were like the political media, that they could just tell people what to think and how to vote. Turns out no one gives a shit what gamesmedia thinks, and they weren't in charge of anything.
