Do the sequels add more gameplay to battles? I stopped playing the first game because I really hate how the game kinda plays itself.

Yo-Kai Watch 2 has more stat based fuckery and some psudeo-strategy, you do more.
Yo-Kai Watch 3 changes the battle system entirely. It's hard to explain so I'd look up a video, but it works great and doesn't feel like a wait to win game anymore.

Well if the series gets better, guess I could try pushing through the first game. I did really like the monster designs and such. Also how rare are the SS ranked yo kai? I got one, but no idea if they're really all that rare.

Game was released 2014 in nippon, there's actually 2 more if you include the spin-offs Busters and Sangokushi.
For a series with this many games I didn't expect most of the spin offs to be of quality, but I was pleasantly surprised when they were pretty good and okay respectively.

The final boss was a joke, it was just a matter of doing the mini-games over and over again, I didn't do the post-game because it was a matter of grinding. I did a shitload of sidequests though, but most of the times, they weren't worth it.

What's up with all the recolors in the games?

YW1 was the worst offender of recoloring every fucking yo-kai, it gets better but never stops. I assume it's just so they don't have to design an entirely different yo-kai that does something too similar to another, especially when it comes to just making another yo-kai S/A rank.

1-2 you can play as Keita or Fumika, Yo-Kai Watch 3 you are forced to play as Ketia and Inaho, who is annoying but everyone else hates her too so it's fine.

Posting from my phone is very tedious so i don't, i haven't bothered to check if my router could do that but i did get an electricity problem in my house today so that might be it, i've also noticed that i have to redo the captcha recognition more than four times a day.

Didn't use to be that way fam, only after the second one sold like hot cakes but the main buyers ended up being fujoshits who watched the anime but couldn't play the game. They streamlined and simplified a lot of shit in the third one, there's way too many parts where the game just takes control away from you to play some dramatic cutscene.

If you look at the artwork for the first couple of games. see how each captain looked unique and theme oriented teams were pretty much the norm. Fast forward to 3 onward and it's just pretty boys with some ugly faggots around them to keep things balanced, but visually everyone looks really bland. Zanark is the only character that has any personality to his looks. Though the original selling point was the zany characters and rpg elements added to soccer so they could pretend that Captain Tsubasa isn't the only series that has that stuff

Postgame in 1 is the Infinite Inferno, which is only okay if you like pain and suffering
Postgame in 2 is pretty good, lot of sidequests and extra shit to do.
Postgame in 3 is also pretty good, with the new battle mechanics being bitchin, the endgame sidequests being not that grindy, and the fact that they're planning updates to add new mechanics like a co-op dungeon.

it was something like in its first 6 months in Japan, Yokai Watch 1 outsold the then latest Pokemon twiceover in the same time period

part of it was positive press and word of mouth, and part of it was the direct appeal of japanese folklore compared to Pokemon which only alludes to it (Magikarp evolving to Gyarados is based on a legend of a fish that climbed a waterfall and came back a dragon, stuff like that)

I personally think the "pokemon killer" thing was people trying to spark a rivalary between pokefags and yo-kai fuckers, because then yo-kai would get visibilty, or it'd just be funny in general to watch.
