You can't have it both way's. Either you brag to have had an ever present resistance and guerilla movement or you were total peaceful civilians who deserve to be left in peace.

For German standards Dirlewanger was over the top, but he would not have raised eyes if he had fought for the Allies. Even today is the conduct of Angloamerican forces in Iraq and Afghanistan worse than what ever Dirlewanger did.
That is, he was comparative to the „resistance fighter“ conduct very gentlemanlike. Resistance fighter who took no prisoner, regularly mutilated prisoners and soldiers in hospital, burned them alive.
Of course German POW were tortured, starved and worked to death even by official allied forces, if they made it to become prisoner, not killed by their captors before, like being hog tied with the string around the throat, as happened in Dieppe.
