1. Political apathy is incredible here, that we're hard right would trigger, at worst, an eyeroll
2. Kind of like Scandinavian countries the xenophobia is low. No contact means no bad first hand knowledge
3. What little color they do see, namely the migrant mexicans or the somalis in cities, has a single story repeated over and over again. "I was in the grocery store when I saw this huge loud family of X paying with foodstamps. I get outside and they're loading up into a brand new Hummer/BMW."
4. This is a migratory state. Everyone on the coast is used to "Snowbirds" who only live here in summer. It would be a welcome surprise to see a supposed snowbird stick it out through winter.
5. I've only seen the news of the Hamish community making a 'colony' in Maine taken with ambivalence or happy wonderment.
6. During WWII a German POW camp was made here. The locales became fast friends with the men behind the fence. Hell, my grandfather, god rest his soul, learned German from them. When the war ended more then a few from Eastern Germany stayed here and married in.

Point is hard work is valued in this cold state. New faces are a common sight. Ambivalence is the law. No reason to assume we would be rejected, let alone unwelcomed.
