I don’t know why. Indians have been hit with the negative affects of globalisation hard. They are an ancient culture that has a lot going for them, yes their class (caste) system is more pronounced that in the western world but they are a cut above many cultures in many ways.

They covert Western culture, my anecdotal experience of Indians is that they place more value in having a Starbucks open in their city than they do a thousand year old teashop steeped in history. They hold more pride in having a mall full of shitty Western franchises than they do ancient marketplaces still active.

Indians place too much value in cultures other than their own despite having a percentage of their population that is on par intellectually. If you are an Indian Academic you will struggle to be taken seriously unless you have first been abroad and verified as important by a western institution and which point you can return home and take your share of jobs because you must be valuable if the Westerners think so. The same can be said of the tech industry and people returning from H1B visa jobs.

Indians are ugly on the inside and out. Hence their massive butthurt upon being called out on it.

I can honestly say from experience that too many of them are self-hating individuals. I know many Asians (not just Indians) that got through differential equations by the time they got out of high school, come to the west and become alcoholic accountants. It's weird man.

I myself prefer "american indian" for clarity's sake unless the tribe is specified, then I'll use the tribe's name. In certain contexts where what I mean is obvious I'll just use the word "native" because that's what my native friends use when not talking about a particular tribe.
