Horror lets us see how ridiculous society is as a whole, and the slasher genre is a reflection of its time. Torture-porn is a reflection of the post-9/11 society of the 00's, and the more recent fixation on ghosts and spirituality throughout the 10's reflects a return to Romanticism in pop culture.
