As for your original hypothesis I think remakes are really just lazy film making. They are essentially using home runs that have made money in the passed. It's low risk and has potential to be high yield.

What you are seeing is a less pozzed hollywood being upgraded to a fully pozzed hollywood complete with newer themes of multiculti, race mixing, evil white men, stronk womyn, etc. You are correct to assume this 2nd Scarface remake will be a whole lot worse.
