Hey are you still here? We are waiting for your stories mate.

What happened to the few posts?

thanks for the interest. i was just too young to be conscripted but I grew up in an out of the rural areas so we were seriously affected by the war. a guerilla war sucks bigtime. you cant trust anyone. the guy who cooks your meal at lunch would go and listen to terrs lecturing him at night to kill all the whites. a family friend had exactly this on his farm - attack at night, chaos, a couple of RPGs into the protective walls around the outer windows, pets shot. he runs upstairs with his FN and sees his fucking COOK dancing around on the lawn encouraging the gooks. he thought fuck this, he runs back down to his safe and fetches the elephant gun which was this ancient old 4-bore he had inherited. The shot pretty much cut the guy in half and the other guys scattered.

so growing up during a war and not knowing anything other than a war is a very strange experience. every night the TV (black and white for many yrs) news would have reports, some of them starting with 'combined operations regrets to announce the death in action of' and then some poor bastards who got slotted. often you knew the names.

grade school essay writing would have topics like you are a patrol leader hunting down terrs in the zambezi valley, describe your last operation. we were 10-11 and here we were writing pre-adolescent shit about mowing down floppies. i read one years later and it was pure starship troopers stuff man. except it was real every day. some parts of the country were just suicide to visit, especially the border areas. but the bush was my friend, I grew up in it, worshipped it, lived in it, breathed it. weapons were always handy, i had a G3, twelve bore, pump action .410, FN, .22, .22 pistol and could handle them all by 14. sometimes there were accidents: a girl I knew at grade school got accidentally shot by her brother and killed. my dad beat the shit out of me and my sister the one time we treated guns disrespectfully - never again.

Amazing story Sir

also were you guys allowed to form a militia Like MERICA and unofficially REMOVE COMMIES during your free time?

farmers and rural communities were their own militias by default but mainly in self defence. we had this crappy radio system called agric alert so that we could help each other. taking out commies in your free time was encouraged but not practiced widely because of the possibility of running into your own side. like I mentioned guerilla wars suck. miles and miles and miles of bush patrolling with no guarantee of even seeing the enemy let along having a shot at him. the fuckers only shot unarmed white missionaries anyway they sucked as soldiers.
