Nothing changed in the game except one or two variables. They might have as well let you choose at the start of the game or let the game select it at random for you.

Anyway, barely nobody back then cared about 100% completion, and people would have still connected their GameBoys if they wanted to make a trade or fight. I guess it was to promote "social gaming", but printing two editions did very little to improve this.

They do the event-only shit so the games retain their original spirit of going out and interacting with others to collect 'em all. GTS kind of killed local trading, so they introduced events with gen 4 to make up for that. Unfortunately going to GameStop or whatever doesn't feel quite as satisfying as organizing a trade with your buddy, but that's the reason they do it.

Realistically most fire type couldnt survive in such a region so that might deal with one counter class.

Super is the Hardest one so far, I think that it is not a good place to start.
You could try to start with Rescue Team, then Sky and Super.

HGSS would be the best if it had the QOL improvements from Gen 5 and a better level curve. As it stands, B2W2 is better, as much as my nostalgia wants to say otherwise.

Specifically, I'm looking at fucking Leafeon and Glaceon. They have to make a specific spot in the entire game for you to evolve them, instead of using a Leaf Stone (an existing item). Either Gen 5 or Gen 6 didn't have this spot, making them virtually unattainable

Not to mention half the caves I wandered into in Gen 6 were basically empty one-screen rooms for EVENTS

In a number of cases, the special legendary (as far as Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, etc) had been trade only, or required a downloaded item (even with Celebi, Crystal had the GS Ball in Japan, if memory serves). The bigger issue is how the west has gotten shafted on those a lot. The west never saw the GS Ball, Emerald's Old Sea Chart was never distributed here and they just gave Mew out for free instead of letting the player play hide and Seek tag with it on World's Edge Island, and Arceus flute was never distributed. Probably even more examples, but whoever handles western Pokemon events seems to prefer to just hand out Pokemon at various points rather than let players get an item, go to where to Pokemon is, and fight them there. I'm honestly a bit surprised that the west even saw that ticket to Naval Rock for catching Ho-oh and Lugia in FR/LG/Emerald.

That's not to say Gamefreak doesn't have their own issues, but the west has had it worse as far as event Pokemon go. Hell, if disregarding legendaries, take a look at the bulbapedia. The west has missed out on a lot of regular event/distributed Pokemon that weren't legendaries. You'd have thought that with Gen IV and on having the option to download via wifi this would have solved most if not all the issues issues in regards to distribution, which once needed a place like Toys'R'Us and employees who'd had a cart loaded up with Pokemon to give away, but apparently not.

Technically, Orre from Gen III has some basis in the US southwest, but Colosseum and Gale of Darkness weren't main series entries.
