If you play on Easy mode, and don't want to use the available depth in the mechanics of FEAR as if you were playing Vanquish as a cover shooter, then sure.

Do elaborate, because the available systems in FEAR certainly make up for that.
The reason for that is that the AI is sufficient enough to adapt and react in different ways to each situation, meaning most encounters have a different way of playing out. It's not super-realistic behavior, but more than sufficient for a game like FEAR where each encounter can turn into a game of chasing tails. Whereas Doom made up in terms of encounter variety for its basic AI by cleverly placing enemies and different kind of enemies around the levels, FEAR's enemies can take advantage of the levels in similar ways like the player does, and are what makes most encounters so good.

Painkiller is quite literally a mediocre mindless shooter. Doom and Serious Sam actually had you making multiple decisions on the fly (whereas Serious Sam sacrificed level complexity in favor of enemy amounts and amount of enemy variety), which worked because you were fighting multiple enemy types at the time. Painkiller instead has you fight one or three enemy types at a time only, and as a result you'll be applying the same tactics for each encounter. Which is circlestrafing and firing your rocket launcher/shotgun all the time, with the occasional stake and rocket fired at enemies far away. The enemy types themselves aren't that different from each other either, and are usually a variant of 'hitscanner', 'rushing melee guy' or something inbetween. The enemies you fight change every few levels of so instead of maintaining a fixed and coherent cast of immediately recognizable enemies you can react to at any moment.
Most of the weapons are just two weapons mashed together, and the only worthwhile combo attack is that of the lightning/shuriken gun which I never used for anything but that, unless I was running out of ammo.

The level design is Serious Sam-style massive open arenas which lock you in, without the enemy composition to properly make use of that space and still make encounters feel varied. Quite honestly, it's about as mindless as you can get, yet Hard Reset and Shadow Warrior R looked at Painkiller instead of Serious Sam and threw a bunch of more gimmicks into the mix. Painkiller is okay if you want some mindless fun, but not for anything else.

Q2 is an unbalanced mess with piss-easy enemies and encounters since the Super Shotgun trumps fucking everything, the level design is nowhere near as good as Quake 1 and it has no business calling itself 'Quake'

Unreal provides an incredible atmosphere through progression in the levels, great music, an original weapon arsenal with many uses and enemies which behave rather like bots instead of standing still waiting to get shot.
Level design is great and very varied overall with superb presentation. Qurange 2 got nothing on Unreal.

The very last thing someone would shit on Unreal is to call the music shit, the second last thing is the AI. Especially when the AI of contemporary games was incredibly basic to begin with. If anything, Unreal Tournament has a track record of excellent bot AI which started with Unreal 1.

That's a rather odd thing to say, considering Unreal predated both Half-Life and System Shock 2 in terms of release date (unless you were referring to SS1 with system shock, though that's a comparison only the most blindest of retards would make, you'd have a point with SS2). If anything, Unreal is more similar to Marathon 2 with its text logs and alien planet atmosphere, though considering the latter was mostly known as a Mac exclusive and had a relatively unknown DOS release overshadowed by more popular games at the time, I doubt that they intentionally looked at Marathon as inspiration. The beta versions of Unreal resembles Quake 1 more than anything. I have the feeling you are either bad at trying to word your complaints, or just have absolutely no idea what the hell you are talking about.

The series had some really good controls for a console shooter, but that's like saying a racing game had less terrible keyboard controls is a good thing.
