all that said, i generally enjoyed the theme and art direction for each race. but youre going to need something more than terraria with a different set of decorative items to really draw me in.
theres tons of different planets, okay but are they worth exploring? is exploring them fun? not too much. whats the point of anything? terraria didnt have goals set in stone, but it still had things to achieve.
even the building in terraria had purpose, npcs would move in, and if you wanted you could give your favorite npcs a really nice place instead of a medieval inn room.

It's Terraria in space, with less mobs to fight. I don't even know if this game has bosses, but I've never seen people talk about them, so I'm assuming no. I heard somewhere that basically all you do is fly around in a pre-made galaxy that they claim is procedurally generated, and gather magic rocks from the planet.

Something tells me Holla Forums has discussed this multiple times, and that the conclusion was 'it's shit'.

The game was seriously fucking fun for about 5 hours as I went through it with a group of 7 friends not long after release, then we realized the most efficient way to play is to never build and just make a mad sprint across the surface of the planet for ore and loot then move on to the next one. Then we hit the top tier planets and we all just sort of got bored and never touched the game ever again.

The music is really nice though, and it was very fun importing random tracks to fuck around with on the instruments. I would have been really disappointed if I paid full price, but I paid nothing so it was pretty good.

Yes, it did desperately need more content, but the content they chose to add killed off the one single thing it had going for it, was tedious, and poorly done.

My dumb point was Terraria even back then during that gap was still a better game than Starbound is now after years of development. Watching Chucklefuck bumble through developing a game has been interesting at least. Which is more than you can generally say for their game.

Angry Koala has the most mods, I assume its the version you're looking for.

Used to be I could roam the galaxy as a lone explorer. Game was pretty nice for that vibe, in fact. You had a fair bit of character customization and startup, so you could make your own sort of idea. Good for RP and all that.
Really, though, the isolation was what got me, and kept me playing even though it was miles worse than Terraria. There was something special about exploring unknown worlds, moons, and asteroids, and there was always a little bit of joy whenever I found a little civilization, even if there was never anything to do there.

Now? You get an unremovable pet automatically that eats your shit randomly, you have to go to some shitty craphole planet where everyone gives you shit grinding quests to get anywhere, and your nice little small exploration vessel is required to get massive and rather ugly in order to continue.

I wish they'd've built more on the exploration aspect, maybe added some more of those nice books you can find what expand on the cultures of each race. I'd certainly like to know what happened to Humanity, and learn more about neat birdpeople's strangely advanced pyramid nonsense that shows up now and again.

I hate what they did to the tech system. Instead of finding tech cards like you used to, now you'll find fragments and you have to cobble that shit together to make your tech card.

Because nothing says FUN quite like gating and over-reliance on RNG to progress. It feels like they realised they had fuck all in the way of content so they broke down what they had and gated it so people would get tricked into feeling that there was more content than there actually is.

As for myself I bought Starbound when it was on sale. I regret it everytime I look at my library of games. While I got more then my money's worth out of my playtime it's a fucking turd sandwich because it should have given me far more enjoyment.

The developers are untalented and goon pawns who antagonize the community and then talk about them in their super sekret club rooms and constantly spend the shekels they jew'd everyone out of on stupid things, not to mention not being able to hold the deadlines they create or complete them within a reason amount of time after going over.

Meanwhile the vocal part of the community for the game are insipid manchildren who participate in things like Tumblr, plebbit and Something Awful, if not all three. Tumblrtale levels of autism.

The game should have been finished two years ago. It will eventually reach 1.0 (likely the Fall or Winter of this year) but it's not the game that was promised.

As a sidenote on Chucklefish: I was not angry with their decision to move into a new office. A lot of autistic faggots were. I understood the reasons why they did buy and move into a new office. It was in a good location for the vast majority of the team members and provided them a more productive space. Their failing came when they refused to get back to work.

Chucklefish typifies what we will continue to experience from the 75% of these Developers made up almost exclusively of Millenials. They are liberal man-children/woman-children who don't understand and eveb revile the idea of work ethic. While their predecessors constantly pulled 60+ hour weeks to churn out good product they feel they are entitled to an easy life.

The new updates make it okay at best but honestly Terraria was just better in all ways.

Terraria had more interesting weapons, the planet surface was more interesting even if there was only one of them and had more interesting progression.

Starbound is just exploring hundreds of almost identical planets with the same avian temples and apex science labs on them with a boring, linear progression.

Nigger the game has barely changed, and the changes they made like forcing you to dig through to the core of a planet has done jack and shit in doing anything but highlight how bad it is. And once you've explored 4-5 planets it's pretty much clear that it's all empty filler and randomized colored blocks with the same recolored enemies. Only now some things have more variety but again that's because of outright stealing mods and speaking of mods all the good ones are geared for endgame. Terraria has far more content because it has more variety of enemies, actual dungeons that are worth a damn, tons more bosses, and the "single planet" you bemoan has mechanics for the terrain that does things. Starbound just uses randomization to put up the illusion there is more content.

Starbound's music and concept is nice. The next update should address a lot of the issues with lack of actual gameplay and have a more complete story.

Basically what happened is that Tiy was the main, maybe only, spriter of Terraria while Red was the programmer. Then in January of 2012 Tiy up and leaves to make a competing clone of Terrraria (i.e. Shitbound) leaving Red high and dry. This was the main cause of Terraria being "dead" for a year. Eventually Red assembles a new team to Make Terraria Great Again and that's how 1.2 came to pass. And they've been on fire ever since.
Apparently Tiy leaving was the best thing to ever happen to Terraria.

Hmm, I wasn't ware of the games.. history. A couple things I didn't like were the ideas to make the glitch race medieval and the Nova kids cowboys. I figured there would have been a mod to fix it, now I'm reading about a ton of cut biomes and features and muh 6 gorzillion.

That mod inspired me to make the texture pack I'm working on. Space Fascists replace the regular human features. I remember the asshurt that mod caused and the nexuscucks shut it down fast
