"Despite former prime minister John Howard claiming that there was no underlying racism in this country, it seems as though it continues to get even stronger, and I believe this is an issue that affects all Australians," Gollan said.
Vic Alhadeff, chief executive of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, told ABC Radio that, despite claims that the anti-Semitic postings were just poor humour, it was never acceptable to make racist comments.
He said the best response was for the students to "see the end point of racism" by visiting the Sydney Jewish Museum, which focuses on the Holocaust.
Facebook includes built-in reporting mechanisms for users to flag offensive groups and postings. The site has been approached for comment on the measures it is taking to stamp out racial vilification.

Dear NSW Police Force,
On the week of May 21st 2015 news broke that 'Homebush Public School
teacher Alexander Gollan was arrested about 6.30pm on Wednesday and
charged with inciting a victim under 10 years to commit an indecent act.'
It included a search of his home on Friday 10 October 2014 and another
search 'seven months prior.' He was given a court attendance notice, and
as a law student at the time I was charged with following the case. On the
first trial date I arrived in court, everything was normal.
When called up the true criminality began; his lawyer spoke in hushed
tones with the judge and shortly left the court - and that was the end of
that. Closed court, gag orders, and nothing but secrecy has ensued since
and the court officers, wrongfully, have treated members of the public as
though they are journalists and treated the matter in a secretive fashion
rather than providing the transparency that our democratic system is meant
to afford members of the public. This case has fallen off the radar. I was
assigned another case and told to forget about it.
But I can't. I want to know why, in my country, a democratic nation,
someone can be charged with 'inciting a victim under 10 years to commit an
indecent act.' I have read his eighty page diatribe website 'gollan's
truth' that he since posted claiming a grandiose conspiracy but none of it
addresses the fact that the charge requires 1. a victim under 10, 2.
incitement, and 3. an indecent act. He claims he said "Stop being cute."
to a kid and that was it. That doesn't fit the crime, and smells as fishy
as the fact this guy has managed to use his extensive network of
journalist friends to literally have the matter pulled from the media with
only 2 of 168 original articles remaining online or available to public
record.
I'm not one to hold much credibility for conspiracies, but this most
definitely appears to be a blatant case of corruption when someone with
strong political ties can be charged with grooming a child to commit an
indecent act and then have EVERYTHING, from the newspaper articles, to the
charges, to the court case, EVEREYTHING pulled from public record and
hidden.
Thus I ask you to disclose and provide me with all of the case files and
materials, charge sheets, and court documents that you possess on Alex
Gollan of Condell Park so that I may continue my pursuit of this matter
and take it to the Australian State and Federal Parliaments to ask just
why someone charged with multiple serious crimes of a sexual predatory
nature inclined towards children can use their political influence to bury
the entire event and apparently abscond from justice entirely and why the
DPP allowed this to happen.
