These looks worse then the fakes.

Sorta off topic but should I play through platinum ? I feel like the series went to shit during / after gen 4 .

Personally platinum is my favorite pokemon game, despite Diamond and Pearl being my least favorite ones; and Platnioumum is also generally accepted to be one of the best ones by most pokemon fans I know/most people on both cuckchan and Holla Forums

Official trailer

When I first heard of and saw the new designs for gen 4 and 5 I held off on it. I knew something was wrong if they had a literal garbage monster.

NEW POKEMON

Electric/Fairy

Bug/Electric

Bug/Electric

Normal/Dragon

Water/Psychic

Bug/Fairy

Electric/Steel

Artwork makes them look better. Charjabug and his whole line are nice, though not a fan of how angular Vikavolt looks. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Drampa's blobs embody the worst of modern Pokemon designs. Also his Normal type is unnecessary, though Sugimori isn't doing the Pokemon deigns for this game so eh. Bruxish is a Talonflame counter.

Who even cares?

Am I imagining it or are they really dragging their feet? I feel like we had info regarding the other gens evos by this point.

Tapukoko looks absolutely baller.

POKEMON Z NEVER EVER FAGS BTFO

More "new" pokemon

Now this is exactly the same as the pre ORAS "hype", where they showed every single mega evolution and spoiled the whole Delta episodes in its full two hours glory.
Then we played the game and found out there is nothing new and probably is the worst pokemon game in the main series.

I have a very bad feeling for this gen

Fuck off to >>>/reddit/ or cuckchan

Drampa looks like a big floppy dog-dragon thing but normal is a huge deal for a dragon
in exchange for fighting weakness it gets moves like double edge/giga impact, hyper voice/beam, and other great neutral effectiveness for STAB, meaning it can remove a lot of threats. Ghost immunity might be useful depending on Gen7 and if there's a ghost hazard/status.
It all depends on the stats it has, and what its ability "Frenzy" does.

As a fag for the first two gens I'm absolutely in love with Togedemaru. He looks like a long lost Gen 2 Pokemon and if all of the new Pokemon were like him, I'd be in love with this game.

He has the quirky colorful patterns, basic cutesy look, and fun features that make a Gen 2 pokemon a Gen 2 pokemon. It's absolutely wonderful and I hope to see more mons in that style.

Just as I fucking wanted. For once in my life I get to see a new pokemon that actually looks retro, just like I like. God damn the other ones are average at best but damn if Spikerat isn't the coolest mon I've seen in ages.

you missed out on gen 5 tbh.

Galvantula(Very accurate thunder)
Golurk(Earthquake on a ghost and is mecha)
Scolipede(fast as fuck and hits like a truck)
Leavanny (which is way more powerful then it seems because it has access to X-Scissor and LEAF BLADE while having good stats)
Mienshao(Starts out fragile but has access to Drain punch and Hi-jump kick)
Eeleektross(SHEER HEART ATTACK NO WEAKNESS)
Excadrill(Fast as fuck and hits like a truck)
Bisharp(All round stats, high defence and is made of blades)
Volcarona(Basically a breedable legendary bug)
Braviary(AMERICA, FUCK YEAH bird)
Haxorus(Golden plated dragon that dances the night away)
Chandelure(Fire/Ghost possessed chandelier with the HIGHEST SPECIAL ATTACK IN THE GAME, I think.)
Lilligant(Dancing flower who can Petal Dance over and over with no repercussions)
Gigalith(Standard rock type that looks really cool)

All of em look pretty nice, and people judged too early on the Trashman, because even HE'S pretty fucking good amazing in a fight.

For Gen 5, they went back to basics and gave each pokemon a niche to fill, Lilligant uses dancing moves to disable opponents then finishes up with Petal Dance, the bad effects of which are canceled out by it's ability, Galvantula has an accuracy increasing ability that improves Thunders' hit rate from 70 to 90 percent, etc.

and a few others.

bug thing looks like fucking vic viper

actually porygon z has the highest sp attack

Are you retarded?
Chandelure has the highest Sp.A (Upto gen 5 not including legends) with base 145
Darminitan (Zen) has 140

Both are higher than Porygon-Z

No I concur with your gut. It's the last day of June, the games come out in just over 4 and a half months, in past build up campaigns we would have had second stagers by now. Game Freak is holding out on us, I think they're out of worthwhile designs and know it.

My bet is that they went to redesign them in a hurry after seeing the massive hype the fakes produced. There might still be hope for rapeclowns in this game

I want to believe, but this bererstain universe is too hateful and malicious to have anyone do make a good and smart decision, especially for/because of ones like us.

I just want the starter evolutions to be revealed so all the dumbasses can shut up about the clown and the assassin.

I want to believe they'll suck less.

The only good shit to come of this is a hummingbird pokemon.
Why do they need to do this, though? Do we really need more pokemon? Just fucking focus on mega evolutions or giving evolutions to pokemon that need them.

Oh, shit, I guess they ARE giving evolutions to pokemon that need them.
I spoke too soon, I guess.

...

Since when were ladybugs beetles?

since they evolved

Ruined it

Beetles are best tho.

Tapukoko is fine, railgun beetle is cool, the obligatory Pikachu clone is better than expected. The only ones I dislike are the gay fish and the playdoh dragon.

Ladybugs are beetles, and Mega Pinsir is a true beetle.

Gen 5 was literally a 1:1 copy of typing/pokemon concepts from Gen 1 for over 95% of the designs

Except not really.

wwwwwwww

>Coccinellidae (/ˌkɒksɪˈnɛlɪdaɪ/)[3] is a widespread family of small beetles ranging from 0.8 to 18 mm (0.0315 to 0.708 inches).
What the fuck else did you think they were, retard?

Garbodor is an expy of Muk
Exeggcute and Vanilluxe share the same role
Goodra is a 3-stage dragon, like Dragonite

The only decent ones are the hummingbird thing and maybe the quill mouse

otherwise these are some of the worst yet, is that supposed to be a bus grub the way his eyes light up? His evolve is kind of ok, but still shit

I was expecting Shitmons, but wow. This may be the most stacked gen yet in that department.

I've had this argument with this guy before.
This guy completely ignores that Typhlosion was a shitty copy of Charizard, right down to the stats.

bee fly

i just realized

Goodra isn't even Gen 5, you stupid fuck. None of those other things fit either.

The new pokemon don't really look that bad. My only complains are that Grubbin's cocoon phase looks more like a bug than a cocoon and that cutiefly looks like a butterfly was wearing a hummingbird's severed head. It clashes too much.

Let's not forget Bouffalant, literally Tauros 2.0. The third-stage rock pokemon evolves throught trading. So does the fighting-type line. We have a three-stage frog line, there is a crab-like creature with a huge object on it's bag )part bug, too) and many more.

What are you talking about? I don't give a shit about Typhlosion.

*back.

You accuse gen 5 of copying pokemon while ignoring that the generation right after the first did the same shit.

I didn't accuse Gen 5 of copying Pokemon, you dumbshit, learn to read.

Buffalos aren't bulls. Bouffalant is much, much slower and defensive than Tauros and their abilities and moves reflect this.

Whoops, I'm talking about that other guy. Chill out.

Every generation was inspired by previous ones. I'm not deny that.

I'm saying that for 95% of the Pokemon in Gen 5, you can lay them side by side and find a corresponding one in Gen 1. No other generations did it so blatently

We have different definitions of corresponding.

I feel like the porcupine pikachu-knockoff could have been good if it was better designed than a fucking ball with some jagged stripes.

They sure do love throwing colors around don't they?

But it's spherical. SPHERICAL!

Rowlett is also spherical. How many spherical pokemon are we getting?
I hope the pikaclone for once evolves. I'm tired of seeing non-evolving pikachus.

Anyway, drampa and vikavolt are great. Drampa's a normal / dragon too

user the videos were accidentally uploaded publicly at first by the Japanese Pokemon YT and then they officially announced them. It was a leak at first.

Also

I'm disappointed in you v/. NONE of you have made a joke/observation that pokemon now has AN ELECTRIC HEDGEHOG!

Is it just me, or does the dragon look like the King of Red Lions?

see

Read the thread.

ah good, that was easy to miss. that sooms so small considering the hilarity of the situation though. Oh well.

What does this say?

Go away, underage.

I can't be underage if I understand the reference user. Which kind of horrifies me to be honest.

spectrobes.wikia.com/wiki/Pepethraz

Quit this shit right now before it derails the thread.

What the fuck are you dragging me into this for?
Eat shit, faggot.

Fair point that was getting there.
So what does everyone think that of all the new Pokémon. It's the Grubbin line that was fully revealed first? Assuming one of the other pokes isin't a single pokemon line.

Then you're an illiterate retard. Go away.

The quality of your writing is so distinctively mongoloid that I knew this was your post before comparing ID. Read a fucking book nigger.

Come on user I just missed the first post because I had auto update disabled. Chill mann i'm sorry.

Grubbin line has too much of a jarring transition. Complete pallet swap, suddenly angular when grubbin has no edges anywhere, there's no transition. No features on grubbin are present in his evos.

I see what your saying. Beetles and many insects do change pretty vastly after they go through their cocoon phase though, So I don't think it's past the point of unacceptable.

But it's a Grub > Cocoon > Adult insect.

Is Caterpie too jarring? Is Weedle? Wurmple? Nincada?

DON'T CALL ANYBODY

...

...

…. what?

I'm saying that even though porygon and natu are both obviously birds, it wouldn't make sense for natu to evolve into porygon because of the huge difference in characterizing traits. Natu is round, and has a red, yellow and green color palette. Porygon is completely angular and is pink and blue.
Porygon2 still caries over the shape and color palette.

...

Romhacks and fangames are the future of pokemon.

Do we actually know that grubbin is part of that line and not the opposing line like most other bugs?

I would assume because all three of them have prominent pincers so it seems likely they are the same line.

fug

That makes sense certainly but what if it's two beetle lines this time, the japanese do enjoy pitting kabuto beetles against stag beetles.

...

It's okay, user. You tried.

...

These designs are just insane enough to warrant a playthrough. I usually don't give a rat's ass about the SMT clone for children, but everything I'm seeing about this game is enjoyable enough

Are you human? Or have you just spent so much of your life indoors you don't know basic biology?

...

I'm pointing out that this user doesn't understand the concept of METAMORPHOSIS, where insects, amphibians, and some mollusks have a wildly different form based on what stage of their life they're in.

Tapukoko is badass, game needs more polynesian-themed mon.
An animated Maori tattoo ghost-type would be neato

Dragon reminds me more of the mountain dragon from Windwaker, with clouds.

Can't wait for more porn of that cat starter

Isn't this pokemon and not real life? It makes sense from pokemon logic.

Retard, metamorphosis might do that, but it doesn't mean it's a good design decision to make the pokemon look radically different from what it evolved from.
Imagine Pikachu evolving into Electrabuzz.

That would be weird because they aren't bugs or amphibians, which are known for metamorphosis. This is a bug, so it's familiar.

Not when you consider almost every other bug pokemon. If anything, Grubbin's line has a lot more similarities than, for example, Caterpie's. Note the retention of the vertical jaws and prominent mandibles through the entire line.

I got a bird for you right here

You got brain damage, user? Almost every other bug line does the same thing.

...

And there's nothing wrong with it.

Sorry, meant that for

Nignog, please take some classes in character design. It doesn't matter if it's a bug or not, it should still look at least SOMEWHAT like the previous entries, even if it's just by the art color.

What are you talking about? They look radically different in form, sure, but they always still have similarities.
Wurmple's line is probably the most strange, but that's because it evolves into two different things. Once you divide Wurmple into the two separate lines, it becomes more clear with the same colors.

...

Charjabug looks like an onahole

Vikavolt retains the grubby end, squiggly mouth, yellow sub-colour, and mandibles. And pic 2 is a mixup, which contradicts what you're saying.

Actually it does: It's complete fucking bullshit spewed by Redditfags that is proven wrong by looking at the index numbers of Gen I Pokemon in R/B/Y. In Gen I the index numbers of every Pokemon in the game indicate when they were created and put into the game. For example Rhydon is the first Pokemon in Gen I's index.

bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pokémon_by_index_number_(Generation_I)

Now here we address the whole "hurr venonat was supposd 2 evolv into butterfree" idea. Venonat was created first out of Venomoth, Butterfree, Caterpie, and Metapod at index number 065. You know which one is the next closest to Venonat after that? Venomoth, at 119. Due to them being close to each other and that index numbers indicate creation date it is a high likelihood they were always meant to evolve into each other, but let's look further to help prove my point by looking at the index numbers of the Caterpie line:
All right after one and other which means they were each created in order and thus created with evolving into one and other in mind.

Therefore the rumor that Venonat was supposed to evolve into Butterfree is completely false and only morons regurgitate it.

It's still really weird that Venonat looks more like Butterfree than the Caterpie line does.

So I'm guessing that this also applies to Dragonite/Gyrados?

gotta go fast

Do this excersise: go draw 150 unique creatures. But keep it simple.

You will eventually be reusing the same eyes, the same mouth shape, the same horns, etc.

You will also notice this thing where you forget what inspired you before and then the same idea will inspire you again, so you start drawing something similar without realizing it.

In this case, veno was drawn first, then a hundred pokemon later butterfree was drawn. If that list is the order they made the pokemon, than it's likely what happened (one of the artist based it off the same inspiration without realizing it).

I am not kidding, go give a shot. It will be fun but you will see what I mean.

If that list is indeed the order they were thought up, it does explain a lot. The squirtle line doesn't make sense either. Blastoise looks totally disconnected. In this case, he was 28 and squirtle and warturtle were some of the last pokemon made. Notice they were made with charmander and charmelion (spelling on all of these is way off but fuck it). And then charzard. I wonder if it was made into 3 and then realized blastoise would be a great third for uniform starters.

Yes, actually

Dratini and Dragonair were most likely made to evolve into Dragonite.

It's worth noting that Ken Sugimori wasn't the only designer in Gen I

bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/User:Altruis/List_of_Pokémon_by_their_designers

Atsuko Nishida, Motofumi Fujiwara, and Shigeki Morimoto were also designing monsters, with Atsuko doing many of the more popular Gen I designs.

(sage for triple post)
Same with bulbasaur. It goes straight from bulb into venusaur. I wonder if those pokemon were decided late to become starters and ivysaur just needed two more around it.

Sugimori designed all three, so maybe he thought Ivysaur looked too mature to be a starter, or Ivysaur was meant to be standalone from the beginning.

...

I like Vikavolt and Cutiefly
But wtf is up with The Never Ending Story, a bus and fat Sonichu

Dratini->Dragonite is based on a Japanese myth.

Magikarp becoming Gyarados is also based on a different Japanese myth, about a koi fish climbing a waterfall to become a dragon

Also worth reminding people Dratini's gen 1 sprite shares the same underbelly as Dragonite

I wonder if it's better to prevent Dragonair from evolving because that prevents him from getting the secondary "flying" type.

It doesn't really have the stats for it, even if you give it an Evolite.

Dragonair's stats aren't good enough. Maybe, in Gen 1, since it was the only Dragon and had one weakness, but even then it's competing with the likes of Alakazam and Slowbro.

Drampa is cute! CUTE!

its shit

Vennonat should be butterfree but the Gyarados one is wrong.

Unlikely as all hell, but what if Drampa is an evolution for Dunsparce?

See

implemented into the game doesn't necessarily equate to 'thought of', unless you mean to say they were literally adding them into the code the second they scribbled down some concept art
It's more likely that
caterpie - metapod - venomoth / venonat - butterfree
were mulitple 'bug' designs, but the popularity of butterfree and it's appearance being a stronger counterpoint to beedrill, whereas venomoth had a comparatively weaker design, meant that butterfree should take a more prominent role in the game. Caterpie/weedle are the first 3 stage pokemon most players are likely to evolve to the final stage, so it was important that these pokemon made a good impact on players, as such, the choice to use butterfree here instead of venomoth was finalized in the design stage before implementation even begun, leading to somewhat conflicting designs but properly aligned indexing.

gyrados/dragonite is nonsense though, their pre-evos have plenty of relevant design elements present

Except it was. Rhydon was the first pokemon design finalized which is why he appears as all the in-game statues. Mew however was the first trademarked which is why it is the 'ancestor' of all pokemon.

Butterfree resembles a butterfly way more than Venomoth does which means it'd make more sense to have it be the final evo for the caterpillar.

Moths and butterflys come from caterpillars, though.

He certainly doesn't look like one.

He better have speed boost as an ability

Got some similar colors and those wings resemble Dunsparce's also looks to dwell in caves as well. Like I said it's really really unlikely, but I'd want it to be so.

wud u a charjabug

Then Drampa better have Serene Grace, if not at least Eviolite Dunsparce would be good

Well it's confirmed to have a new ability Frenzy, but there's a chance that's just replacing Run Away.

Again it's just dumb wishful thinking, there's a much higher chance Drampa isn't an evolution for Dunsparce.

Well we havn't seen an evo/pre-evo for a previous gen mon since gen 4 so I actually am starting to think that GF won't do them any more in favour of Mega Evos

If Normal gets a resistance to Fairy Type (which makes thematic sense because most people don't believe in fairies), Drampa would be a powerhouse based on typing alone.

Don't forget that if he's dunparces evo then it'll mean he'll be a great paraflincher

I like all of them, honestly.

Well Sylveon, but I suppose an Eeveelution won't count as it's guaranteed.

Cute

every new generation this happens to me

S- Sonichu?

Some one needs to send this to Sonic

Wow its the same fucking game.

hedgehog porn when?

I HATED Drampa's design for about 5 minutes. Now I love it, and I love that it's part Normal, my favorite type. I'm looking forward to this gen.

Cutiefly is the cutest pokemon.

...

I just want to play the druid and gay clown starters.

Of course they do. I can only imagine how bad the real starter evolutions are going to be after we've gotten used to seeing the decent fake ones. I know I'm just going to end up playing it like everyone else though.

Gen 5 had some of the best designs.

???

Why do people still play Pokémon?
I don't get it, the games have only been getting worse with time.

Pokemon are supposed to be furry woodland creatures that just happen to have magical superpowers, right?
Why does that one look like some kind of alien spaceship? What is its natural habitat?

Name another turn based strat where I have 300+ (usable) characters with 20 or so good moves between them, not to mention items/abilities and EVfaggotry.

mm would have gone with "Pokemon are supposed to be kickass lizards that just so happen to be able to breath fire and shoot lightning" for proper bait. It alludes to genwun a little more, and captures the mindset of a mental 10 year old.

cause ppl played them when they were kids and anything you do as a kid was the best goddamn thing ever even if it was actual shit

that's how pokemon makes money

How the fuck did you even know who I was talking about I replied to the wrong person

heh, newfag

rekt

better than a dead board and a furposting general

I'm mocking the fact you go to and entire fucking board dedicated to Pokémon, and there's nothing you could say that will justify still going to cuckchan to anybody here.

That's bereNstain.

Fuck, did you jump universes again?

I'm saying that a shit board about pokemon is better than no threads at all

I like that dragon, he looks like my dog.

The dog is one of the best designs.

That doesn't matter if they only thing they changed was the art, though.

It's a ryukyu spiny rat.

i still use /d/ on halfchan

Looks like shit

If i buy it i will probably use the GTN to get the pokemon ash had during the orange league and pretend that is that

Porygon is literally a duck.

its a 3-d model vaguely resembling a duck [/aspergers]

Yep, it's definitely the most challenging of them and I like a lot of the new mons they added, more than any other gen actually.

Why do you love platinum and hate D&P, are they not almost the same game?

Platinum changed a fair bit story and progression wise compared to Emerald and Crystal. Most for the better, though I'd prefer getting a Happiny egg like in DP instead of another Togepi.

Also B2W2 is the most challenging games thus far.
