System Shock Reboot

Tried out the System Shock Reboot "Demo Pre-Alpha"

It ran well despite it needing 8GB of ram for minimum requirements (16GB of ram for maximum) on unity. it's only 2GB in memory and actually looks some-what System Shock 1 and has decent gameplay.

I just really hope it doesn't turn out like DOOM 4.

What do you all think of it?

DID SOMEONE SAY DOOM 4?

It's a reboot.
They want to bring it on console too.

That's all you need to know.

Wow we literally are going to have another Nu-DOOM situation.

Cant wait to see how they fuck this one up though, my bet is on some SJW bullshit

Not a fan of how the melee works and feels. Otherwise it was average, nothing to write home about.

Can't wait.

All you need to know
archive.is/r849V

...

I actually really just hoped they got some woman with a very boner inducing voice to do it. Although I wouldn't know who.

Sounds like quake's female announcer.

I still haven't played the first one, but I got Portable downloaded. So, I have no clue how this one compares.

Ctrl+F
System Shock

Is it so hard?

So you don't want it to end up like one of the better launches of a beloved older franchise?

Oh wait, I keep forgetting most of you poorfags haven't tried it because they can't crack denuvo.

The grasping at straws is real.

I hope the reboot is shit just to spite you DOOM hating fucks, in the end I don't think its going to matter, you guys are so enamored and married to the original one that unless its exactly like it, you're going to hate it.

...

orchestral soundtrack

it just goes downhill from here.

It's not a reboot, it's a remake. Those are two different things.

Things I liked

Things I hated

Things I want people to burn for

It's going to be absolute shit if this is the direction they're heading in.

Just give us the original source code so we can make the interface not suck and enjoy it properly.

I don't think there'd be anything wrong with streamlining things like controls and cutting out some of the unnecessary fluff
just as long as the combat and level design don't go full Bioshock Infinite tier
and of course not having the story feel like it came straight out of San Fransisco

archive.is/nVcvp

It was supposed to be a remake.
The inital trailer was supposed to show it off.

Now they've changed it to it being a reboot, becasue they want to retell it in their wown fucking way.

- OP

Toppest of keks. It's going to be another case where using a recognized name is going to hurt them more than help them, just like DmC. If they just gave it a different name, it'll catch shit for being mediocre and imitative, but at least people won't scream that they fucked up an existing series.

I really hate this trend in FPS games where when you pick something up you have to watch a shitty 10 second animation of the character inspecting it, even if it's something stupidly simple and one dimensional like a bolt or a key.

user you wouldnt last long in system shock's setting

...

webm

cba, also Tweed is a good goy

why does SHODAN look like Akuma?

Nope. Terri Brosci is back, so it's going to be good ol' shodan.

i'll never play System Shock since it's to scary

Depending on the situation I like the idea of there being a 'pause' while you recharge your equipment. Depending if there's respawning enemies a la SS2, it could mean there's always a latent risk to 'reloading' your shit in an exposed area, while safer rooms let you do it… erm. Safer. I agree on the implants though, that was just irritating.

uninstalled, also nuMooM is way better than this crap

Hi (41)/(44).

i saw a gameplay demo and i recognize that shitty melee animation anywhere.
its the french fucker who used to be a mod in facepunch and an animator for rust(but got permabanned because he's a cancer sjw). Of course they're gonna give a frenchie that all he does is waiting for people to stroke his ego as he shit on gamergate to animate this

unity is fine

Was Facepunch a SJW circlejerk or just your usual circlejerk?

Considering that pic related is the dev team at work, I wouldn't be surprised.

i hate it, performance is worse than other engines and it usually looks like crap
maybe its the devs fault but i dont think i played a good unity game
this is just my opinion anyways

The problem with such accessible engines like Unity is that since the programmers are most likely to be inexperienced, they will make no effort to optimize the game, nor does using Unity really help with that.

Unity is SJW shit anyway

it's like Neogaf where they pretend to not be SJW for pr but they chug koolaid the second no one's looking.

Cities: Skylines is a good example of how an optimized Unity engine game would run on your PC

not really but you got your leftist and right shitposting at the news board if there's anything about guns
max and his bands of sjw dick suckers are mostly permbanned/stopped posting in the fear of being banned/stopped being annoying when max got lifted of his modding powers that he used to ban anyone who hate femenisim or disagree with him or his band of dick suckers

Everybody knows it's true capitalism that has never been tried.

Its aight
I see lots of nitpicks but not much else
If they can improve this substancially it will be a good game.

they're ex-bethesda guided by Origin Systems vets. It will be a good game because how the hell do you fuck up a re-badged classic. But the Bethesda in it will be obvious and piss you off. (like the unstoppable hand faffing like in fallout 4). But there's a reason they're "ex-Bethesda" and that's why I'm cool with it. They sure the fuck are weird looking though.

They retcon anything or fuck this up in any way and I will seriously do some regrettable shit that I'd go to prison for. I mean it. You don't fuck this game up.

But by all means. DO NOT GIVE THEM KICKSTARTER FUNDING. Its a trap. They'll sell this to a publisher. It always happens. they don't need your cash.

Get the fuck off our board and go back to Reddit.

SS1 wasn't scary, at least not on 2's level.

At most, it had a few semi-creepy sprites and the final boss fight went full interfacefuck if you took too long, but it felt about as cartoony as Doom.

Watch or any other playthrough of the demo. They already modified the audio logs and there is no dart gun(but that might be just because it's an early alpha demo).

The entire dev team are turbo-SJW. Here's the modeler.
twitter.com/MaxOfS2D

Still have SS1 portable sitting on my HDD, all this done is make me want to play it.

Dude, where have you been the last decade?
All the signs that they'll fuck it up are already there.

If I were you, I'd already start preparing.

Don't forget how the most basic RPG features and the features from the first game are fucking kickstarter tiers.

I'll be buying it right off the bat if it comes with the promised Dota 2 cosmetics.

[garry's mod autismo flashbacks]

Jesus. What is his background work experience? The animations looked awful and os did the models, so no surprise. The worst parts are the obnoxious bloom effects.

His name seems familiar. Didn't he work on rust or something? Isn't he some french lolcow SJW?

He's a known Facepunch dick sucker and autistic by gmod community standards. Probably a furry.

Ask him about succubus Pyro for maximum butthurt

Is he the one mod that got banned for being so obnoxious that no one could take it? Is he that one mod that also got banned for banning others for very arbitrary reasons if it offended him?

You mean this guy is that same autist who made a ton of pyro porn and then got asshurt about people who called him a hypocrite for complaining about sexual things being misogyny? One of the worst things about the game I think is just how oversimplified everything is. They removed all the corruption references from shodan and the more complex things in the game such as more common emails and having to look for door codes.

Yes, yes he is
Ita an alpha, they are not going to remove logs

I don't think you understood what I meant. They removed a lot of content from the logs in the demo that were in the first game. Shodan's intro was longer and Diego is never mentioned at all. It really seems to be trying to distance itself from the original and become Bioshock in space. The music in the game is also unfitting.

Isnt there just one audio log right at the beginning?

Yes, but they removed a good chunk of the content of what they said in the original. Shodan's email is also now a ship announcement rather than an email, and shodan does not talk as much or hint at her sentience as much.

Wait, Maxof2SD? Didn't the guy turn out to be a massive SJW? I remember his rants during GamerGate, it was cringy as fuck.

They're re-recording the audio, so they might just be cheapskates and cut or shorten logs. Why the fuck are they even recording them again, if something was low-quality or outdated in SS1 it sure as hell wasn't the VO.

Heres a disclaimer by the cuck himself

Guys a fucking goon from the SA days

He is a massive SJW from Facepunch that used to be a mod there. He was so obnoxious and banned so many people for any perceived slight/misogyny towards him or his dicksucking crew that admins banned him there. He got really asshurt about that and how those he banned got unbanned after he was warned multiple times to shut up. He also used to make gmod futa porn before stopping after he got called out for being a hypocrite for making sexual things yet also saying anything vaguely sexual was misogyny.

Tweed is probably one of the best reviewers and he creates so much asshurt it is great. The entire starbound team is mad at him.

nigga is like you didnt take any SJW classes
>shodan a strong independent AI womyn that needs no hacker hasnt choosen a gender yet

And you know, that enough fucking retards will fund it.

I like that "ironman mode" for 1.7m, it's literally 10 lines of code, max. Wonder if they gonna forget about timer.

There can't be a timer when there are ten second of unsikpable animation every time you recharge your health, discover a new item/weapon.

Obviously still early alpha, leaning toward good at least with aesthetics.
Needs to match up to the original a bit more.
It could play a little faster than that.

Why did they think it was a good idea to have so many pauses and shit like that? Is it so hard to just have a quick grab animation rather than fucking play around with the hardware? The pipe animation and enemy animations are also awful as well. The range is also awful and there is no dart gun it seems like.

they didn't.

I just don't understand why they would include it. All the animations just slow the game down. If you want to show something, then why not just a simple grab animation for new gear? Why spend so much time on those health and energy stations? when it could have been a qucik button push?

Maybe, but it's "cool" to do so, since most modern games do that. At least you do it once with every new item you pick up, however when there is an unskipable cutscene every time you want to recharge your health then you know you fucked up. Somebody could argue that recharging your health should penalize you time remaining, but having an unskipable cutscene isn't the solution, just inform the player, once, that every time he recharges his health a few seconds instantly drop from the timer(the more health you need to recharge the more time you waste), thus you won't have players who abuse the recharge stations, there is a penalty and it's still fast since there is no cutscene, everything seems to be instantaneous but in game time, a few seconds had passed passed. Of course they aren't going to do this, but they could at least make those cutscenes optional from the menu, but they won't do that either, because god forbid some players might not want to see them and the "poor" developers worked so "hard" on those "awesome" animations.

get on with the times grandpa, its called cinematic experience inmersion

or i dont know, just make the player stand there plug himself into the machine and recharge his life/energy like HalfLife? the more damage you have the longer it takes.

This reminds me of Crysis 3 and its big gaps of silence during dialogues, like they wanted to make the game longer.

The most ironic thing is that they didn't make ladder animation. I mean you're supposed to see your hands when you're climbing the ladder, but guess people need shitty less-important animations more.

it's funny because I remember when "we're totally going to make an amazing mod for Half Life guys" projects were full of a thousand weapon models and idle animations, and nothing that was part of gameplay. Some things never change.

those things are there because some skirt or streetshitter was able to make them, since non-interactive animations are much easier, than, yknow, game shit. Then they were kept because, well, they're idiots.

Yeah that could work just as well.

I have a question for those who have played System Shock 1. Was the game ever about going fast or at least did it develop a speedrunning community like with Doom and Quake? I know there is a timer, but does that really count/

The game is not really that fast paced. You can speed run it, but it is mostly beneficial to do so anyway due to the timer. You have about 8 hours and the game usually takes around 5-7 hours.

Going fast is not that important, but it's something you can do with the rollerblade-cyberware. If you spend some energy and take a 'zerk patch running around at the speed of sound and dicing everyone with your lightsaber becomes a very viable tactic.

Thank you for your answers. I was asking because I can understand why people complained a lot about unskipable cutscenes in the new Doom game, but now I was asking myself it it is the same situations with the new System Shock.

Just played a bit of SS on DOS before playing the reboot demo. I was pretty good tbh until it crashed for no reason. If you are a game dev, remember Unity Game engine never ever.

Remember all those predictions saying "NuDoom will be dead and forgotten within a year?"

I think my estimated kill time being "Faster than Evolve" is looking pretty accurate right about now.

It is the same situation. The game may be slow, but it is also tense as collecting items or making noise can get enemies on your ass that can re-spawn depending on where you are in the station and if you have turned of the production. There is also the fact your character is doing crazy flips and throws with his hands to puck things up when you are in a desperate situation. Those are not the only modules you get. The older system shocks had you find better ones with info on what you have or can do. Watching a cutscene is obnoxious and really ruins the flow of the game.

Not really, its just nitpicks from hivemind faggots.
Showing the models from more important models takes 3 seconds, the weapon one I dont like but the HUD upgrades and Energy regen are fitting for that kind of thing.

Do you have shit taste?

Shilling for a shit game in kickstarter is not the way to go. Are you desperate for a new game so bad you want simplified garbage?

It feels so fucking good holy shit

Absolutely

Post yfw nudoom is shit

You got asshurt about people having valid complaints about the gameplay being shit. The animations are poor, the feedback is shit, the enemies are sponges, the music does not fit the theme, the message system is greatly simplified, and there are animations for every little thing you do. How is that nitpicking? Is it nitpicking to shit on nudoom now all of a sudden? Why so adamant about this game and trying to push a kickstarter?

...

Yes, Im the butthurt one here user

How are the animations fitting? You complained that anyone who had a problem with them are a part of a hive mind. How are cinematic animations for something that should be quick a good thing? They don't fit the game for the most part.

I saw D44M retail copies in Poland at 30% of their initial price

50% off at the gamestop in the nearby city

There is some kind of poetry in there somewhere.

Ill give you the weapons and recharge station, but the later only happens the very first time you use it.

Fucking beautiful

You what?
Source?

The neural interface animations have you throwing it around and looking at it much longer than you need to. It is unnecessary when you could just have an animation of you grabbing it.

Not even, user! I saw it going at 40% yesterday.

Truly?

I remember when Holla Forums (well, not this one) had a modicum of intelligence, and didn't bitch about literally everything.

It's pre-alpha kids, things are going to change before it's complete. Can't say if they'll be good, but this is nowhere near the final look.

...

Yeah, Crysis did it perfectly, but like I said, its fitting instead if just picking it up and magically seeing the HUD upgrade pop up.

That still doesnt give it the right to have 15 sec~ long animations for somthing thats shouldnt have any/maybe a 3 sec long animation.

Then what about having you just pick it up and hear a clique like you put it into your head. That way you don't do trick shots of you throwing it into you other hand.

Why did they even pretend to give a fuck about the original system shock?
Fuck them, fuck their shit design and modern ideas, fuck everyone who has any kind of hope for this shit and last but no least fuck Ken Levine for both bioshock and system shock 2.

Link to skidrow download is in the share thread right now But for sake of seeing it for yourself here is the group's page that cracked it 3dm-games.net/doom-4-denuvo-crack-decrypted-game-download/

How much of an uproar should we make over this?

Yeah I know, I was annoyed by those as well. All I'm saying is dumb ideas are ironed out over time, that's how it works with literally everything in life. Well, if things go well, anyway. Sometimes bad ideas stick around. I'm assuming, if any of the dev teams have brains, they'll figure out that they're shit and will shorten them eventually, they've got a long time to do it.

What basic things did they remove? I haven't played the original in like, 8 years, aside from a very short amount last night to compare to the demo. I didn't notice anything removed except the Dartgun and the music, which sucks since the music is great, but a remix of the original is a stretch goal that will likely be met anyway.

People have gone on about a two-weapon limit, but I only found two weapons anyway, maybe I missed one. The devs already said there won't be a limit in the final game anyway, I think.

Again, it's a pre-alpha demo, if you know anything about video games you should know that they're rough to begin with, and this in particular is only a small portion of a game designed for some show and tell. Wait until months later when they're actually working on the game and showing shit that isn't just thrown together for a demo off to the public to start bitching.

AHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA
THANK YOU FOR THIS user
WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY TO BTFO SHILLS AND DENUVO

Kek

Sure, Im all for that

I hope you're having a giggle m8

...

Wow thanks user

Oh my, what a terribru mistake I have made, I totally my actions and decisionsmy fellow gamers.

What did he mean by this?

Looks like a nigger

A NIGGER GUYS

A NIGGER

For people who played the demo, AND THIS IS VERY FUCKING IMPORTANT

Was the first keypad combination 45100?
This shit is important.

Listening to audiobooks is too much for todays generation.
If it isn't into your face, they won't know what to do.

Hell, I wouldn't be suprised to see some fucking idiots asking in steam threads how to open the door in the reboot to be honest.

451

This has MN9 feel to it, it going to go off the rails rather naturally after the KS and thus very little will need to be done.

Oh wow, GG.

How did people get this fucking stupid? Hell even the Steam audience is getting dumber by the year and they did not start out at MENSA level comprehension.

This kind of describes remakes/reboots pretty good.

everyone with a brain realized new games are terrible and gave up on them.

People have always been this stupid, it's just that the retards to people who at least use their brains a little ratio is getting more fucked every year because more people are playing video games.

What's the problem? It's 451 in the original too.

I personally blame public education, as they don't teach kids how to find answers or how to learn, but to only memorize the answers they are given.

I should have added that it's just one of the factors that led to dumber gamers, not the only one. I do think, however that it's the major one.

Im retarded and thought the screenshot said 415 instead of 451

No audio or text logs in the demo

Well, then there's hope yet for this shit.
We'll see. Maybe I'll try to get my hands on the demo too.

...

I like having hope user.
Not because it makes it happy.
It's because I've had my hope crushed so many times, I'm addicted to this shit.

I abso-fucking-lutely love when something comes out that looks half decent to get absolutely fucking hyped for it.
Yeah, I'm well aware what's gonna happen. In fact, I'm counting on it. It's coming baby, and MAN am I gonna have a blast feeling like shit for a couple of days.

Didn't buy D44m so I'm in a bit of a withdrawl. Last time I did this, it was Starbound.
You have no idea how good it felt feeling like a dumb fucking idiot for a whole month.
And it was gifted to me too. AHAH, I AM A FUCKING MORON.

I have the opposite problem. I actually cannot get excited anymore. Even the new zelda was kinda meh. The last time i got excited was when i found a shit ton of boxed copies of games for cheap.

Hope is the first step into the road to disappointment, in this cases.

Maybe you need to start a phys collection user. Shits comfy.

Oh i do user. Shits amazing
(Not pictured is legend of mana)

What did they do to my beloved Sparqbeam? It's supposed to happily chirp out one tiny song of death after the other, not sound like a generic energy cannon.

Huh?

What is the problem here, at least my biggest gripe is the lack of a catchy soundtrack, dammit it's an adventure game, not freaking Dead Space in first person, YOU MORONS, YOU GOT IT ALL WRONG.

I like the simplification of how everything works compared to the original but

That's a good start user.

I liked to have a couple in series on overload early on when ammo got tight.

It's shit like that, that make this thing stink to high heaven. I haven't even gotten around to trying the demo out yet (even though I just finished downloading it) and that doesn't give me a good vibe.

a.cuntflaps.me/xmzebd.mp4

...

This. Got Doom 4 on sale and having a blast in singleplayer. I don't understand the hate it is getting here. On that System Shock demo. It was bland. If the game didn't have System Shock title on it I wouldn't be interested in it. I get it is supposed to be "Pre-Alpha" but that doesn't really tell us if they can honestly deliver us a good game. The demo now just shows that they can use Unity (by that I mean they actually know how to make a game on Unity unlike all of the unoptimized joke simulator games) and make okay looking assets.

...

...

Zircon's doing it so I doubt it, the sample he released did have a very big focus on the wobz though.

twitter.com/jonathanperos/status/747644558184452096

There is a free demo nigger. The game is mediocre. Its biggest problem is the design is completely modular (using glory kills to replenish ammo and life for example) to fit with snap map. Which is why by mid way through the game every encounter seems exactly the same. The map design was a step in the right direction but its still extremely lazy to not ti have to weapon/ammo/health and monsters placement. Just lock the doors and spawn in wave after wave and the player will never die as long as they press G to win when everything glows Orange and Blue. Surely you know this, you cant be one of those nufaggots who never actually took time to learn anything about Doom and never made a map and are just talking shit because le dank ironic maymay.

It wouldn't be cinematic enough though

But even on overload it still chirped, just louder. Why change this? Seriously, WHY?
It's the tiny handphaser equivalent. It gets the job done if you don't have or need something better.
Is there even any overheat mechanic in this rapeboot? Without overheating you wouldn't need anything else, just sparq everything dead and just change to the pipe for the half minute walk to the next energy node.

45100 was the first keycode in System Shock 2
hint: 0451

Wait, I just realized, that in the Demo, Rebecca's message makes no mention of the Hacker's little deal with Diego, which was one of the reasons why the hacker worked alongside Rebecca, so they would pardon him, also it was the freaking reason the game happened in the first place. Why omit that?

The keypad in Deus Ex near the UNATCO helipad was also 0451. IIRC, Warren Spector said that it was an old code for the office keypad he worked at.

Exactly, that's why I asked.
If it wasn't, that was a clear sign it was gonna be shit.
Althought, after seeing I'm not holding my breath anymore.

Because they're going to clean up the hacker's backstory

How so? The dude was a badass NEET rocking a ponytail and a purple jumpsuit, plus the shirt he had while hacking at the beginning of the game.

Why change all that?

Antiheroic cyberpunk is too problematic for modern tastes which prefer more simplistic tales of good underdogs vs evil oppressors.

I just realized they will most likely get rid of the cyberspace sections too.

Fucking nugamers, the original game is perfectly playable, and for those that can't git gud, there's Enhanced Edition.

This 'reboot' is completely unnecessary.

Its so they can get "gamer cred".

Thats what it seems, only two voice clips in the whole game.

Does it still look like a fucking Tron game?
i doubt these people even played the original

I hope you realize how much of a faggot you are.

...

Have you played the game user?

It's clunky as shit.

It's fine, stop being bad.

Its fine, stop being autistic.

It's fine, stop being alive.

It's fine, stop being.

And Metroid Prime sucks because nobody plays the multiplayer, right?

We're not talking about CoD here- if the campaign is shit ,that's what will sink the game.

...

I won't refute that, since I haven't played the demo let alone the full game, but pointing to the multiplayer means nothing in this context.

A lot of games have tacked on multiplayer.

Last i saw about this, the game was all pitch black with neon lights, not only it looked awful it was nothing like SS2.

But doom advertised the game with the multiplayer.

Fuck off newfag.

Too complex.
Needs to be trimmed down so the retard of today can process it.

I guess by not being challened in any way, shape or form.
Just look how they "discuss".
They're so not used to get challenged in their lives/line of though that the moment something invades that does exactly that, they have no other response then to chimp the fuck out, while throwing even the most basic form of logic away.

And the longer that state they're in prevails, the worse it gets.

I remember it having a bunch of leftyfags, and this was before we complained about SJWs

ITS ALMOST LIKE THEY'RE TOTALLY MISSING THE POINT AND WANNA MAKE IT LIKE BIOSHOCK

Also embed related is best song.

Thanks for mocking me, cerebrist shitlord. I identify myself as an amoebozoa and I'm triggered by your disdain for brainless organisms.

You should be ashamed of yourself

Isn't it because because of Fahrenheit 451?

I think some other number of SS1 was from Les Miserables.

there is so many fucking problems with this DEMO

this is solid pain because ss1 was one of my favourite games

...

I hate how garish and overdone the visuals are. The bloom and particle effects look like they came from a different game. Also, that faggy minimalist interface needs to be trashed. I hate how games now all have this generic menu with white squares and some standard condensed Arial font.

Fuck this garbage.

I might be willing to say some of the shit might be due to the fact that it's an alpha…but then they shouldn't fucking release a demo of a fucking midrange alpha.

Orchestra is however very questionable, also the slot inventory space. That's fine for the Deus Ex series but not for SShock 1.

And of course the KS.

With Enhanced Edition I used SweetFX to add a variety of post processing effects to the game.

What I found is that SShock, even if it were being redesigned from the ground up, really needs to have subtle post processing or you just destroy all the art and the ambiance.

I managed to achieve that myself, but still that's not what Night Dive is going for. Their lack of experience is showing.

Well I finally started the demo. First impression is that I kept strafing left for some reason and nothing I did stopped the movement. Good job.

Well I persevered despite the fact I couldn't fucking strafe. I was barely able to key in 451.

Some thoughts…

* Melee combat is pretty crap, at least with the lead pipe. Doesn't feel intuitive at all, with SShock's original system it felt alright. I'd personally increase the speed of the pipe by 50% and decrease the damage accordingly. If this kind of scheme holds up the laser rapier will be completely fucking useless, unless they force the invisomutants to only be affected by that one weapon. In which case it'll be a must have for Level 3 but that'll be it.

* Level design…it's alright. It's similar to the original game, from what they included although they took some liberties with it. The trauma center now feels a bit more "medical" but yet it still didn't make a lot of sense. I think they could touch it up some more and redistribute the clutter a bit better. Little atmospheric touches like Mira's head in the vent are missing, although I really couldn't say if that's due to the alpha state or lack of familiarity with the level architecture.

* It's a bit too shiny, excessively reflective. It gives off sort of a cheap ambiance that way. Darker areas were a bit better, but then you can't fucking see anything when its dark, everything looks better there.

* RNG seems to be a bit generous to the player. First servbot I bashed in gave me two batteries! Never would have happened in the original release. If that keeps up on release you'll be able to shoot the Sparq or Ion all day, fuck the Skorpion.

* 'Becca's VA is alright, but I don't see why they needed to redo her lines as she's no better than the original actress (who probably wasn't top tier anyway given what that side of the industry was like at the time). Legal reasons perhaps? Also her face looked fairly low res, I really couldn't give her any distinguishing facial characteristics. Again this looks cheap.

* Demo was too small. I wanted to see the main concourse of Medical, the cyberspace terminal off the elevator, HERE, and the rest of the familiar landmarks. They should do what they did back in the day and release a demo with the whole of Level 1, but even a view of it's current incomplete state would have been alright. Instead it's just the starting area and the underside leading to the SHODAN log where she talks about the mutagen.

* Sparq beam feels overpowered, unless even the cyber drones are a huge step up in lethality. Once I got that I was under no threat from any of the other critters on the map. The new audio for it really didn't bother me so much as the fact that it seems more useful than a pistol now, at least to me, potentially.

* Audio wasn't too remarkable, which is a shame as that is the one area where LGS games always excelled. It's passable though really that will not be good enough for release.

I can't comment on the controls because mine didn't work. My best guess though was that it's basically going to be similar to SShock 2. So if you want to play SShock 1 with the UI and controls of the sequel then you won't have too much of a problem on that end, but if you want the fine aiming and full contortion abilities of the first game you will not be happy with it at all.

That demo was more of proof of concept. Its so early in development I don't know why they bothered releasing it. Just wait til you have more of the game done.

It was to get more KS money. Still plenty of suckers on there but also a fair amount of gunshy people after all the failures the last 2-3 years. They aren't going to get everyone of course, but they want to get some of the on-the-fence people on board that they actually have vaguely working code.

Personally I think they should have just done in-house alpha testing, maybe with a 10-20 person volunteer crew of SShock vets trying to find game breaking shit (with the studio telling the outside testers that they are going for the SShock2 interface so they don't get too upset) and then release a full LV1 demo to the public when it's a bit more teethed through. That would have probably been a 2-3 month job but I don't think they are too low on cash to not have done it like that.

...

Is this the same one that was announced like years ago and just looked like someone used SeetFX on SS1 to add chromatic aberration and bloom everywhere?

Seriously, you can get people at mturk to shill something for 5 cents, CENTS a post

What forum is that?

god help me I liked the demo and I backed it for 30

oh fuck yeah that needs to go

When will you learn?

I didn't read the thread

feels bad man

Played the demo. Anyone who says Unity is well optimized is probably delusional, I couldn't get proper FPS with this darn thing, and even unoptimized rubbish like Fallout 4 runs well on my thing.

There was nothing explicitly triggering in the story in the first place, apart from gore, even main protag was kinda unspecified, and all that is still there, and considering usually they just change something crucial or common and then just snowball into tiny things, I don't expect any SJW changes here.

Can't you cancel it before the Kickstarter ends?

oh

that's a good idea

well that's done and over with

it's a damn shame

the few stupid enemies aside it gave me comfy space station simulator nostalgia

The fuck? 1 was the spooky one. 2 was hardly spooky at all.

Good taste my nigga.
That's the biggest fucking gripe I have.

Fuck.

Well I fucked up. Anyways, calling it a reboot is just a back up incase they fuck it up which they will.

This is their new audience. Literally people who want to be so retro.

this is pure cancer if they wanted to FEEL the nostalgia then they would play the original

All of my WHY.

That fucking third comment.

System shock is dead. I kind of figured this would happen when Maxof2SD was on board, and when they got Spector who hired Maxof2SD since they are in the same SJW clique. Why did they get Spector on board? He talks about how he hates violence in games and is ashamed he promoted violence in games as a producer when he did jack shit to make said games for the most part. He talks about hating System Shock and Deus Ex for god's sake because of violence and people who he does not like managed to like it.

It might be because their were different rights for the features the MAC version had. Apple was and still is pretty strict about content released on their old systems in

...

stop the industry, I want to get off

It's boring as fuck and has shit weapons, shit map design and shit movement. The first two statements you make about the System Shock proof of concept are equally applicable to nuDoom

Yeah everyone complained about the first track they put out. This one has been received a lot better

soundcloud.com/nightdivestudios/system-shock-soundtrack-zircon-jonathan-peros-ethical-constraints-removed-ss-intro-remix

Still not SS1 good, but it's better than muh spoopy violins

Also bothered by what appears to be slowass modern game movespeed in the videos I've seen so far. Downloading the demo now

You can check the other comments to find shit on parr or worse than that. It is so bizarre.

Just finished the demo and these are pretty much my findings as well. The things that bothered me most though were that it's 2slow, 2bloom, the music is shit, there's too many time wasting bits here and there, and the lack of UI panel for minigames/keypads was irritating. I would not want to try to squint at a puzzle the size of my thumb when it's totally feasible to just have a popup window for it. At the absolute laziest most low-quality level they could just fullscreen it

I'd rather just replay EE if this is what the final product is going to be like in any way

I can't wait for the inevitable webms from this shit.

How many more flops do you need to see, before you learn?

played the demo and damn it was so fun, i loved the lasergun, hyped! I already pledged in the kickstarter, but im tempted to get that sweet music cd.

why dont you give me money ill shit in a box and it will still be more complete than this game will ever be

Don't bother, my man.

anymore bait smells like the real thing.
to much time reading the shit comments and reading warren spector shitty downhill coolaid fest.
i just take it all at face value

What's the point? Why would anyone spend money on this when the original game is just as good as it was on release? There's even an enhanced version of SS now so it's even more pointless than it would have been a couple of years ago.

I had learned

I learned hard from Star Citizen even though it's not technically dead yet and I should have learned from star forge and star bound. Can you see the pattern here?

I was browsing GOG and saw the demo come up and thought, sure I'll play that

what I got was a game that was not at all threatening on a comfy looking space ship and decent atmospheric music

lulled into a false sense of security I forgot what kind of game it was supposed to be and though what a great comfy spaceship simulator this would be, partly because I was browsing GOG and not STEAM, the latter of which I am conditioned to mistrust

I'm sorry user, forgive me for I only wanted adventures in comfy space like when I played multiplayer on duke nukem 64 Lunar apocalypse and just had fun exploring the space levels

A good rule of thumb I learned when indie wasn't being on the spotlight and no kikestarter is that if they don't announce the game at 50% completion or have a track record of completing their games even if it's shitty RPG Maker crap then it'll never be finished. Since kikestarters involves games before they even hit one level when they announce and get funded and shit I never got involved with any vidya kikestarters.

Yeah, I'd be really surprised if they could SocJus the game up since it's just a standard 90s "everything is fucked up" story.

Then again they could get lazy and just simply streamline all the story audio, shorten it in parts. I'd watch out for that more personally.

Hmm…Engineering in SShock 2 was kind of spooky. The long hallway with the heavy doors opening as a Many drone chased you down, the protocol droids popping out of crates suddenly in the dark.

Overall though it was less atmospheric than SShock 1.

Nuke it from orbit, only way to be sure.

I think he's been unhappy since Epic Mickey tanked, that was going to be his big thing and it didn't work out. Still, the only thing about the old games to be unhappy about is Invisible War, not DX1 and SShock.

Also Tribe (the band Eric and Terri were in) did the AST so there might be further licensing issues we may not be appraised of.

Well, it's not a comfy space ship simulator…at least that's not what it's supposed to be as you sussed out. If thats what it's coming off as, they are doing it wrong.

yeah, my imagination got the better of me

if the game turns out half shit but has moddable multiplayer with a level builder though that should make potential for new dark rp

It's fine, stop.

post yfw you realize that there is no needle gun in the demo because the unity using faggots can't into projectile physkicks.

oh god

Wouldn't matter, they'd just need a hitscan like the old game.

Unless Unity can't do hitscan, in which case it's complete trash, but I sincerely doubt it cannot do anything that Wolf 3D and Doom can do.

I think.

Unity is a pretty decent engine for what it provides. Im almost completely sure it can do hitscan.

Well kickstarters been out for almost five days now and it still hasn't been funded yet. This looks like it could turn into a shit show. At the rate it's going it will probably still be funded. But it's not going to end with very much in the way of stretch goals. I'm guessing like 1.1 maybe 1.2 million tops.

Where were you when cyberpunk turned into a fucking buzzword
I remember when you could type it into google and only get like five or six relevant results
fuck normal fags

R U KIDDING ME?
SERIOUSLY? LIKE WOW
I LITERALLY CAN'T EVEN=
JUST WOW

...

did you know, i literaly took 5 minutes searching ALL OVER that room for the personal log you had in SS1 that says "note to self, got cyber implants, left shit in storage locker, door code is 451" and didn't even think to notice the blood on the wall

I had a feeling that Spector would turn out be a massive bluepilled cuck. Most of the old hacks in the vidya industry are now showing their true worth, in other words: absolutely nothing. Producers and directors are first and foremost idea guys, and technical guys last.
Crash when?

go play Martian Dreams. he was always a "I'm so Texan yeehah FUCK YOU DAD I DON'T WANT TO WORK IN THE OIL INDUSTRY *tips tophat and monocle*" faggot.

I don't really know what to think about the reboot. It all looks very similar to the original System Shock, just with updated visual effects and textures and slightly different geometry. Also I'm not sure what to think about the geometry mostly remaining the same, because the design back than was probably due to technical restrictions. Talking a bit more about the visuals, are the textures supposed to be that pixelated or is that just part of the "pre-alpha demo" meme?
Also, I'm not a big fan of them going for an orchestral soundtrack. I don't think it'd fit the setting. Just reworking the classic soundtrack or using some kind of dark ambient would probably be a better thing to do.

I don't know, will they be respecting SHODAN's pronouns? In case anyone has forgotten, in SS1 all the text and spoken dialog refers to SHODAN as a he, but SHODAN clearly has a female voice. Have you considered the possibility they'll take it to the next level, and they'll all be referring to SHODAN as a xir? please don't meme it into existance

Unity is acceptable if you're willing to do optimization yourself instead of banking on what's already there. From what I've heard from several people who have worked in the industry for ages though, you're still better off learning things the old way (C -> C++) if you want to be a decent programmer and have well-optimized games

Granted in this case it should be irrelevant because these are industry veterans and they should know about all this shit

It happened to steampunk already. It was inevitable that Cyberpunk would be next if it had any modicum of success

Uniy would be good for a person to mess around in.

Unity

IIRC this was before they made the VO and they just couldn't be bothered to change it.

...

From the Steam forum for the pre-alpha demo, it's apparently part of their art direction. steamcommunity.com/app/482400/discussions/0/351660338705947287/

Strikes me as a stupid choice, updating all the graphics but then making it look like you forgot to turn on texture filtering.

You can mess around in a lot of stuff though (UE4 has built in functionality for people who literally cannot code, gamemaker and rpgmaker exist etc. I've personally chosen to just learn C and grab nCurses). What would generally cause people to choose Unity over a more UI-centric game creation program like Gamemaker or RPGMaker is generally the fact that Unity games seem a little more "official". However the people who actually start and maybe finish a project generally try to dump that shit on steam, and that's where their "messing around" becomes more of a problem, since it's easier to spot a gamemaker or rpgmaker game than it is to spot a poorly optimized unity project (unless it's just thrown-together asset store shit)

Again though, shouldn't be an issue here since these are ex-Origin guys, and would have a decent knowledge base for optimizing a game (which iirc they did a ton of on System Shock just to make it work in the first place given size and hardware constraints)

With regards to System Shock as a whole, I hope they can clear up that hotboxed neon lights look the rooms have. The station needs to look a lot grittier than it does
Also bring back the proper theme for that floor dammit.

That's awful. I hope someone with any sort of influence points out how retarded and jarring that is

Its babies first 3d engine. People think unreal is too complicated, and think rpg maker is for weebs. They probably dont know about game maker, or they think 3d is better in general.

That does not make any sense if they are going for nostalgia factor. The music looks nothing similar and the bloom/darkness does not really feel like system shock at all.

they are trying to replace the audience of System Shock to successfully turn it into propaganda with 3.

But that was before Terri became the voice of the AI, user. Also from the floppy "verbose" text logs, which while colorful didn't really follow what people said in the CD Edition.

Yeah, that worked well with Homeworld, right?

I personally think they are just trying to make a quick buck off it now that they got the rights un-fucked enough to actually do something with the IP.

I'll stick with the Portable version. It's a shame because I love SS2 Still need to play SS1, I can't get that fucking mouselook mod working. That's all I need and these people are fuckheads, no surprise.

Shipbreakers was the other way around. They had a game to begin with and then slapped the Homeworld name on it. I haven't seen any plan to push for a HW3 or HW:Subtitle whereas SS3 is a thing that they are absolutely trying to push, along with a new Underworld

Why not just use SS:EE? Someone must have uploaded it at this point

So is this different than the enhanced edition? is enhanced edition good?

The enhanced edition is pretty much the original game but with mods attached that allow you to strafe and use mouse look. The problem though is that the devs of the game are massive faggots.

I think a big part of the reason why they are shitting so hard on the eries is that they want to make something "super original" rather than be known as the company who just releases old games with stolen mods and up charges them. The only other game the devs worked on was some hipster indie game called the womb room which is some artsy game exploring life to be a rogue like. The game sold so badly and got negative reviews to where they kind of left it at that. They also probably want to pander to the retards who give their old games negative reviews for being too old, so they want to try and capture the hip and younger audience.

By devs, I mean the ones who re-released it.

...

normalfags are the worst.

I've just had the horrible thought that this might be similar situation as nuTeef, where the devs really wanted to make Dishonored but were using Thief for brand recognition, except these devs want to make Bioshock. I hope the fact it's remastering and not a reboot protects it from such retardery.

Yeah, I never researched it, but I always assumed it was a case of everything was already baked in too much to change by the time they settled in on Terri's awesome voice for SHODAN. It's just an artifact of the game that's always amused me.

Did you see this? The whole thing are a bunch of pretentious hipsters or people who want to seem hip by being nostalgic.

Nigga that's not reactor.

...

Fo sho

kalpamantra.bandcamp.com/album/filling-the-void

Alternative soundtrack, even though I don't mind the orchestral score or the DnB

Nice!
I'm playing the game right now and the moment I entered the reactor I knew I was on to something.
Such a rad song.

It's a reboot. HTey want to reimagine what System Shock was.
archive.is/r849V

I appreciate the demo area tried to keep the level design true to the original game, but everyone who played System Shock knows the level design gets so fucking dense in the later half of the game that it simply cannot exist on modern 3d where walls and floor have density; no amount of stretching corridors will make it all fit without removing elements. Speaking of the wall themselves, there is so much unnecesary geometry on the enviroment, panels with elevation, lego walls, ribbed pipes… it should all be in the textures, this only makes the game unnecesarily shittier, and it already feels like steering around a freight train hitting things with morrowind combat tier pipes. It's like they tried to replicate Alien Isolation where the enviroments were highly detailed, but that shit's a triple a game optimized to hell and back. They spared no expense detailing the enviroment and yet the monsters have an economy of geometry that baffles in comparison. That needs to be corrected, either streamline the geometry and use better textures and alphas to fake details
into them, or make the creatures look just as detailed and stupid.
AND WHERE THE FUCK IS MY MUSIC WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WITH THIS VIOLIN SHIT THIS IS NOT A FEELS GAME THIS IS A FIVE HOURS LONG ADRENALINE INDUCED PANIC ATTAC

Well been almost a week now and it's still not funded. At the rate it's going it might not hit it's mark until there's like less then fifteen days left. Then after that it might end up not making even a single stretch goal either.

lol

I find it funny how one of the stretch goals is literally adding features from the old system shock games. You think that would be a priority, but no. The game looks worse than SS2.

Looking at the progress on Kicktraq, I expect it will hit its funding goal in a week or less. As for final funding, 1.5 million looks plausible, so they'll hit a few stretch goals. Mind you, the only stretch goal of interest to me is Linux support, everything else after additional language support is just fluff or excuses for them to "reimagine" things further.
