What console to buy?

Ok, Holla Forums, what should i buy?
The gamecube, dreamcast, original xbox or the psp?
Which one is easier to crack?
Which one has better games?
And remember, i can only buy one of them.

if you want to play gamecube, get a Wii instead. 480p support costs 5 bucks compared to $300. Plus you can read from SD or use usb and an external hard drive to get the most of your system. Backup loading on GC on the other hand? Much more annoying. Wii hacking is also extremely easy.

Xbox hacking is a bit more hands on, but the system has a bigger library than the GC, and lots of hidden gems on the platform, there's even a decent number of people here who have a lot of interest in the system.

Dreamcast is very easy, iirc it's just burn a CD-R, pop it in. You can also get a GD-emu device, which is the best solution, but is a bit expensive.

PSP is also great, and very easy.

I have a hard time saying which is best. Look through the libraries of the systems yourself, get a feel for what they can do, as far as things like homebrew and emulation, and decide from there.

I personally like the Xbox a lot.

The one you can't emulate

GC emulation is near perfect at this point so buy any of the others.

XBOX has no emulator
Dreamcast has no emulator either (I think).

Both have good games, so both should be worth buying. Flip a coin.

PS2 has the best and most games.
The Gamecube is really easy to emulate.

Xbox and Dreamcast are alright.

I'd go with the Ps2, they're also cheap as fuck.

Dreamcast, if you get the first model
Completely depends on taste. GC and PSP can be emulates, DC can barely be emulated, and Xbox can't be emulated at all. DC has a small library full of good, exclusive titles, but Xbox has a lot of exclusives as well.

DC or Xbox, basically. Xbox is huge as fuck, so if space is a problem, I'd be wary of that. If you really like hacking your tech and upgrading the hardware, go with the Xbox. Both have VGA support, so you can use it on a computer monitor for a better picture

DC has emulators, but none are good. Not sure why, though

emulation is far from the be-all-end-all, and original hardware is always better. Plus, he asked for which one to get.

Thanks for the info. I really am not sure which one to buy.

Emulation isn't really an option because my pc is a horrible toaster that could barely run most last-gen games at 30 fps on the lowest settings.
i'm a poor fag
also, i am pretty sure the dreamcast has atleast 2 different emulators

I already have the ps2.

And that's completely up to taste. Not one of these are the right answer

Outside of not buying any of them, get a DC and make sure its the model 1

In teams of exclusives, does the psp have good exclusives?
Also, does the gamecube have anything good except the 1st party stuff?

Then why would you include it in the op

Nigga, that's the psp not ps2.

The Xbox
Easy to crack, the best multi-plats, good enough exclusives (strong but still the weakest in its generation), dirt cheap to collect if you want to go legit, good controllers

I'm familiar with all of them except for the dreamcast. I'd also strongly suggest looking at a Wii over a gamecube. They seem to be the same price pretty much too. You just want to get RVL-001 model Wii, you can immediately tell these apart by looking at the top of the system, if it has the gamecube ports, that's a rvl-001.

If you have any questions about the rest, I can answer them for you. I know pretty indepth technical traits of the Xbox, but I can tell you a good amount the libraries for each. Really, take a look at some recommended games lists, the old and abandoned Holla Forums wiki, and look at the games released on the system. Find the ones you want to play soon, each console has some very distinct libraries, so it's hard to suggest one without knowing what you like.

that's psp.

oops

Pretty much no, outside Resident Evil 4, REmake, and Killer7. I think all of those are on PS2 as well, albeit in lower quality

You're better off playing the other versions of RE4, the later revisions added in much more content.

Alright, which console is best when it comes to rpgs? i'm betting it's the psp, ain't it?

If that's true then i ain't buying the gamecube, all the 1st party stuff for it looks really uninteresting.

PSP absolutely. If you want Nintendo games, obviously the wii is great. There's plenty to play on that system. Xbox has a surprising number of good first person, third person shooters, and excellent action games like Otogi and Ninja Gaiden Black, and many games that run at 720p, have additional free content, and the best performance and visuals of the generation.

I am probably not gonna get the gamecube.

So the xbox has a few good TPS and action games? Now that sounds interesting.
What about the dreamcast, does it have any interesting things?

Upgrade one pc part at a time then.

Currently not an option. I have places where i can get these consoles for cheap but i can't get pc parts cheap. Besides, if i am going to upgrade i don't want to half ass it so i would want to buy some high-end stuff that will last. My current pc has lasted me almost 9 years with only one upgrade.

Since you're buying stolen consoles just ask the guy you're buying from to steal a computer next time.

nigger what?

I don't know much about the Dreamcast, sorry. From what I do know, I'd argue the Xbox is a sort of Dreamcast 2.

Sega put some of their biggest and best games on the Xbox, from Shenmue 2, to Jet Set Radio Future, Gunvalkyrie and Crazy Taxi 3. Games like Ninja Gaiden Black are a bit infamous for their difficulty, but anyone who's played it sees the quality of the design at hand in that game, it's a rare example of a game with extreme player lethality that gives you the opportunity to master it and have a massive sense of control over combat scenarios that would kill a new player in seconds. From Software also supported the system a ton, they made Otogi 1 & 2, and also produced the awesome metal wolf chaos and a very unique RTS game called Thousand Land.

Apart from surprising Japanese support, there's iconic 6th gen games like Black, The Warriors, the THPS series which were easily best on the Xbox.

You didn't realize? How stupid are you?

Kek, too bad there are no good computers in the area to steal.

What if he steals OP's computer and then OP will have to buy it back?

Well shiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeet

Nah that'd hurt their clientele. Even those types need to have some sort of rep or they won't be able to move their goods.

Xbox and psp sound good. Might just buy one of those two.that xbox console size tho
Still waiting for a dreamcastfag to tell me the benefits of buying the dreamcast. That and i will need a bit more info on the psp before making the final decision.
Also, didn't a lot of dreamcast exclusives get ported to other consoles? And isn't it in some way possible to still play online with the dreamcast or the xbox?

If you want GameCube games just get a Wii(A model with GC ports obviously) and homebrew it. Then you have access to both Wii and GameCube games. As well as all virtual console games for the Wii. It's basically a pirate's wet dream come true.

with xlink kai, you can play the games online. Most people only play halo 2 regularly, but it's pretty easy to arrange a group of people together online.

A lot of dreamcast exclusives did get ported, but the DC versions are still great.

Eh, maybe but the 1st party wii and gamecube games have never interested me, there are few good 3rd party games and i tried playing on the wii once and not only were the controls a pain in the ass because they wouldn't work right i just didn't quite like them in general.

Alright, good to know the online for them is still alive.

Emulation a shit.

I was looking up the GB player, it's not perfect either.

Depends on what youre looking for. I personally own all of them except the PSP. well, hacked Wii instead of NGC. Im guessing price is not an issue?

Lots of exclusives and great for multiplayer and arcade fun. Im talking Crazy Taxi, Hydrothunder, Dynamite Cop, PowerStone and the like. Piracy is real easy since you only need CD-Rs. I own about 60 or so games on the system. The multiplats look better on it too (Rez, Grandia II, Evil Twin, Sonic, Skies of Arcadia)

Like DC 2.0. Lots of SEGA titles and hidden gems. Best looking multiplats plus good multiplayer fun (not as much as DC). Easy to hack, though you'll have to be comfortable with opening the system to hotswap the hdd.

Small amount of exclusives that are excellent such as Paper Mario TTYD. Frankly, emulation is already excellent for NGC and modding the console is harder than all the other ones. Get a Wii and hack it, you only need an SD card and a USB to store games. You dont even need a Wii in perfect condition, it doesnt need a working disc drive, they go for about $20

the hotswap hack is outdated, these days we mostly rely on transferring hacked saves, loading up the game and loading up the saves to start the install from SID.

You don't buy one.

Either the Dreamcast or the original Xbox
Emulate Gamecube and PSP
You don't need to crack Dreamcast and I think Xbox can be softmodded

Dreamcast is definitely the wrong answer though, most of it's library is on the other 3 consoles, and the ones that aren't are mostly shit.

Don't you need a GC memory card and controller too?
I have a hacked wii and I can't just run gamecube games on it.

Yeah, this is my problem. Why would i buy a console if most of its library is on another console?

Xbox.

Although you can make copy discs for the Dreamcast just as easily

use nintendont, virtual memory card, bluetooth controller support.

Does anyone know how easy it is to crack a psp?

takes like 5 minutes, it's very easy.

You just put games into and sd and shove it into the psp and that's it?

no, you need to install cfw, from there you can toss games on and you're good to go. I suggest getting a memory stick duo micro sd adapter, micro sd is very cheap so you can get a lot of storage without spending much at all.

Is that how it is now? I thought you had to fucking jimmy rig a PSP battery and Memory stick so you can install CFW.

But the bluetooth controller support doesn't list the wiimote as being supported

either get a supported one, or get a GC pad. I prefer a GC pad for my wii. You can use PS3 and Wii U pro pads iirc.

it was like this back in like 2005, things have changed a ton, son.

I'm assuming that installing cfw is easy, right?

can you use a d-pad and press the X button a few times?

So…it basically like installing a program? No need to do some bullshit in order to avoid any anti-piracy software built into the console or anything like that?

I've never owned or played any dreamcast games, so I can't give you an opinion on that
I've 3 bad experiences with gamecube hardware, particularly the disc spinner malfunctioning. If you are getting a gamecube odds are that you will have to service it within weeks of getting it. As someone mentioned before, you are better off getting a wii with the homebrew channel and a compatible external hard drive to store games.
My only gripe with this brick is that the original controller felt unwieldy. Modding it should be an issue.
One of the best choices to have on the go. This shit is so easy to mod even pre-teen kids were capable of "hacking" it back in the day. You can even get a MS pro duo adapter to fit two micro sd cards in the slot and expand the memory capacity.

I know that, I was referring to the method to upgrade the HDD since the stock one is 8-10gbs if I recall correctly. I used the Splinter Cell exploit, theres a few others as well I believe.

What are you using? Nintendont has pretty much 100% conpatibility (I believe its only the jap version of one game that doesnt work). Your usb must be set to FAT32, cluster 52 and set as primary. Each game must be placed within its own unique folder and the iso must be named game.iso As far as memory cards go, most games can be played with Nintendonts virtual memory card, but some dont work, likewise you shouldnt mix jap, eu and us saves. What USB loader do you use? USB Loader GX has built in compatibility with Nintendont so you dont have to access it through the HBC or Wii menu.

Physical memory cards aren't really expensive either, they're like 14-20 bucks brand new on VGP right now.

Owning and loving all of these systems in a modded state, I'd agree with the common sentiment in the thread.

Xbox and Dreamcast are the most bang for your buck. Both have incredibly fun libraries full of exclusives (and the Xbox in particular having the best versions of a massive chunk of it's generation). Both are incredibly great for multiplayer sessions too and controllers are cheap (I bought completely new Dreamcast controllers with memory card and rumble pack for 15$, shit's crazy). Dreamcast veers a bit more into full on arcade territory, you should just look at some 'best of' lists to get a general idea.

Add 720p/VGA output to that and you've got yourself a hell of a time.

GC has a small selection of really cool stuff, but like most anons said, buying a Wii instead is the better option and increases the amount considerably.

I was never all that big on the PSP even though there's a lot of good shit on it. If you're into JRPG's it's probably the best system you could find, in part due to the perfect PS1 emulation. The spin-off games from most home console series though? Incredibly sad from what I could tell.

Dreamcast is by far easier to pirate for, just remember some rips will cut out content to fit on a CD. In that case, buy the original game.

PS2 by far had the biggest library

Xbox games have the best visuals and audio.

Gamecube was second audio video wise and had those first party Nintendo games

cfw psp 1.0 is the best imo.

I'm retarded, that's the PSP you had.

Can't you just overburn any games that won't readily fit on a CD?

I'm not sure.

When I used to burn Dreamcast games (this was in 2008-9), most of the rips I found would remove content (example: some rips of Sonic Adventure 2 remove the Japanese voice rack), or they reduce video and audio quality while trying to keep everything in 700 megs.

PSP is great have it and a N3DS with CFW

While we're on user's topic, is a Dreamcast worth buying in this day and age, and is there anything I should worry about beforehand?

And I can bind the d-pad controls to the right stick. It feels amazing.

Do you not read threads?

Why is this place filled with casuals?

If you like the games on its library and you can't stand poor emulation
Make sure it's a model 1 if you plan on just burning an image to a CD-R instead of shelling out $400 for a copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 2

In his defense, a crappy emulator is just as bad as no emulator at all.

Demul emulates most games fine, even emulates Naomi and Atomiswave games. Sorry configuring software overloaded your casual brain.

Does anyone know how or have a image that shows how to mod a Wii u? I saw one in a pawn shop for $120.

Original Xbox or perhaps Dreamcast because you can just emulate the others. It's really just a question of whether you want to play Ninja Gaiden or JSRF.

speaking of fighting games, I know Capcom vs. SNK 2 on Dreamcast in japan only. Is there something that allows me to play japanese dreamcast games on a us Dreamcast? Or is that what image burning is for?

Is that picture a porn crop? If so what's the source, tried a couple reverse image search sites and no luck

Buy a Fat PS2, a memory card with FreeMcBoot and a hard drive so you can have fun for years.

Burn an action replay cdx onto a CD-R or burn a copy of that japanese game onto a CD-R.

Xbox and dreamcast are my favorite consoles. They both have some really unique and fun games. Too bad sega's president at the time killed any hope of the dreamcast succeeding. It was way ahead of its time.
