In the book, these three characters are completely inconpetent selfish bitches who managed to indirectly kill hundreds of innocent people.

Hell, Danaerys is borderline a villain. She had so many people killed due to sheer incopetence. Everything she needs to get back the throne was giving to her in a silver platter, and she still manages to lose it all while killing hundreds of innocent people in the process. All she have was giving to her by her male advisors and companions, and everytime she manages to lose it all. (Have in mind the character is like 15 in the book).

Sansa is a glorified damsel in distress who does fuck nothing but serve as a valued political hostage. This whole: "she's a stronk womyn who learns to manipulate men and raise her own power" is complete bullshit invented in the tv show. In the books she's a bubbly girl who serves as a puppet to whoever have her as hostage at the time. And still thinks a brave knight in shining armor will one day save her.

Then Cersei is also the complete opposite in the books. She's not the strong queen who manipulates everyone, she's a selfish bitch who hates her life for being born a woman (so she have no real power in court) and is constantly trying to prove herself to be such as good strategist as her father, but it's pointed out many times in the story that she completely lacks his cold and calculating personality and instead does everything in sheer impulse and emotional fits (you know… like a woman). The last time you see her in the books she is in prison, begging her boy toy brother to save her. And while in the TV Show he actually is a fucking cuck who goes back to save her sorry ass, in the books he completely ignores her pleads because not even he can put up with her shit anymore.

Jon Snow is dead, he was never revived in the book. The wildling army failed at the siege is pretty much begging for mercy to Stannis army.

Stannis is marching towards Winterfell, he is still alive and well. The man never burned his daughter in the book, actually he is very against burning people for stupid reasons. He also never even brought Melisandre, his daughter and wife with him to Winterfel, they are all back on the wall (Why would he bring women and children to the battlefield? This kind of stupid shit only happens in the TV Show)

Daneryes fled the arena in her dragon and is now dying of diarreiha in the wilderness. Last we see of her she is being found by a Dothraki horde. She never met Tyrion in the books.

Sansa is Little Finger hostage/puppet and still crying herself to sleep in the Eyrie, waiting for someone to rescue her.

Sor Davos never went to the wall, he's going to a island of wildling canibals who claim to have the youngest Stark boy with them. He is never mentioned again after that.

Brienne never killed Stannis, they never even met in the book. She's wandering around in search of Sansa, with no fuckin idea of what she's doing.

There are also a whole set of plot important characters that don't show up in the TV Show. The show is pretty much it's own thing now.

Yeah, that's the point they stop following the books. Also there are many factions not included in the show that are extremely plot important. For example:

Remenber the Greyjoys? After their king died in the storm and with Theon held hostage by Ramsay, they crowned Balon's brother, Euron. I don't know what they did to him in the TV Show, but in the books he's a mysterious sorcerer who spent most of his life in the eastern continent. No one trusts him and no one is aware of his true intentions. He then sends his brother Victarion to the eastern continent to get Danerys on his side. Victarion is a complete and total badass. He wears a dark armor with a giant squid's healment and have a hand made of blazing embers, that he gained after a red priest saved him from dying to a infected wound.

So basically the Greyjoys are sailing east to meet Daenerys, which is a huge plot point and is completely shruged off in the show.

Also there is another faction who claims to have Daenerys younger brother with them. They are led by Jon Cogniton, an old knight who fought against Robert during the rebellion. They are secretly working with the Martells to get Daenerys with her brother together so they can marry and restore the Targaryen dinasty back to power.

And remenber the Brotherhood Without Banners? They are now led by the revived corpse of Catelyn Stark, and like every other woman in the book she acts out of pure emotion. Instead of sabotaging the kings forces like they used to do, now they are just hunting and murdering the Freys and everyone else who betrayed the Starks.

Meanwhile, Varys, the Spider… he never went with Tyrion in the books. He stayed hidden inside the castle and is murdering anyone who tries to puts any semblance of order in the court. It is revealed that he's trying to throw Westeros into chaos so the country will be destabilized and vulnerable for when Daenerys comes back.

All this plot important stuff is completely scraped off from the show in favor of "GURL POWAH!" and stupid romances between fan favorite characters.

Not really, the show is actually pretty faithful until the fanfiction parts started.

Season 1 is a faithful adaptation of the book. Season 2 had some minor changes.

From season 3 onwards it gradually moved farther from the source material until season 5 where it stopped following it completely.
