Wow Steam has a really lackluster collection of Falcom games.

Pretty sure thats it, if we're talking English releases.

Alright, time to speculate

Re-relesing Tokyo Xanadu with exclusive content for the PS4 feels to me like they are jumping from one platform to another. They did this when they jumped from the PC to the PSP, and they added exclusive content for the PSP ports. Also I feel they are going to do the same with Ys VIII and add exclusive content for the PS4 port.

>About Griselda on Ys VIII ( gematsu.com/2016/06/ys-viii-details-griselda-austin )

Makes sense, her character wasn't fully shown back on Celceta, and as I suspected, this was made on purpose. Will this be used to prepare the fanbase for the Romn game?

I have a feeling Ys VIII will be very important on terms of world-building. A lot of the NPCs are from Romn and places from previous adventures.

The nun's clothes are mostly the same from the other nun from Felghana, I wonder if they will explain that religion, they didn't say anything back on Oath. On the second page they mention The Oath in Felghana, but I have no idea what it could be about. Any Japanese reader here?

It's going to be a long wait tell I'm going to be able to plays the new Ys on a ps4 or even a PC.

What the fuck? I know this is the most successfull Ys on Steam, but it's also the oldest one.

THAT FUCKING POSTER

I must obtain it

Origin came out after those two.

Kinda, but you shouldn't expect Japanese PC games to show up on any digital platform. The Chinese Falcom games aren't on Steam either.

So it is just the English ones.

Well the PS3 is really almost dead by now.

And the Vita doesn't have a future.

I saw some folks on neoFAG talking about Falcom jumping to Nintendo handhelds when Vita is buried.

Since Sony is leaving the handheld market (there won't be a new Vita I think).

True, but as long as the Vita can handle the PS4 ports i don't see Falcom abandoning it.

Not for a few more years at least.

I meant on steam.

Yeah, the Vita probably has another 4 years.

What happens after that is anyone's guess. Nintendo (NX?) or maybe even mobile.

Because I don't know if Falcom can survive with just PlayStation and PC seeing how the Japanese market has developed.

the quantity of lewds for this IP is a fucking crime

What about Tokyo Xanadu?

Falcom is looking into a Western release. That's all we know.

Tokyo Xanadu is fucking shit compared to Xanadu Next.

XSEED PLS

On the upside, I want to rub my dick on Estelle's thighs in that picture. :^)

Also, what the fuck do star shards do in Nayuta? Are they just concept art?

But of course you forgot the Dragon Slayer guide.

Agnes needs to star in XaNext Scenario II.

XaNext is a tough act to follow.

Relying on handheld sales this hard definitely has affected Falcom's development process, given that they're constantly needing support from platform maintainers Sony) whereas their Windows period was stable. NX could be a smart platform to shift towards, so long as their audience and competing products make the jump. PS4 releases are getting more of a push starting next year, though.

They haven't done much at all with mobile other than license to mobile developers, but their Innovation Unit apparently will be doing something for smartphones.

Ys IX taking place in Romn makes sense, as it's a huge place and needs Falcom's modern budget and schedule to get full development. And they'll likely restrict the game's area to one Romun province given how Romn conquered a few countries.

Thing is the Vita is in an odd position, having no succesor.
Seeing how long the PSP stayed around I could see them developing for PS4/Vita and maybe NX but i dont see them making a permanent change just yet. Windows seems even more unlikely.

Why aren't they making a game along the lines of Nayuta no Kiseki again? That had the best gameplay of any of their games since Ys Origin.

...

I put off picking Zwei II back up because Odin Sphere came out but now I'm playing Drakengard and Zero Time Dilemma is around the corner. I hope I can still remember what the hell is going on in that game by the time I can actually go back to it.

Let's not forget that Mastiff is porting Gurumin to the 3DS.

Why? I have no god damn idea. I wonder if Falcom will release it in Japan too.

Shit, forgot the picture.

Yeah, forgot about that one, sorry. And yes, the game is being released for Japan as well. Falcom has been helping on the port as well.

Why? Money.

Maybe it's just my perception but it seems weird that they would port it to the 3DS now since it's pretty late in its life cycle. I guess it's a good fit for the 3DS but I'd think it would take more work than porting to to any other system.

It's "their" best franchise. A game like this works great for handhelds, and they have their own group of programmers.

It would be cool if they started porting Falcom games to different platforms. Hell, it wouldn't be bad if Falcom hired a bunch of programmers for multiplatform releases.

I sometimes pop back to Halfchan to see if there are any Falcom related threads and I've noticed a lot of negativity towards Trails. What happened?

Okay, that makes sense.

I wonder if they could help bring non-Chinese ports for XSEED to work on. Hell, I'd buy Nayuta again if it were on PC. I don't think even Joyoland ever ported it.

You already have the answer buddy! That's self-explanatory.

which one?

It's probably about the devolution versions.

Trails in the sky I'm guessing.

I just don't remember so many people saying UGH WHAT A SHITTY BORING GAME like year ago.

Nah, Trails in general.

Halfchan becoming shit was no meme. It really has become redditchan.

It's ok if you don't like it, that's totally normal, but if you don't like what the game offers, then don't shit on it because it doesn't fit your tastes. Play a game for what it offers, not for what you want to see if it doesn't offer that.

That's why I always say that if you are going to "shill" the Trails games, always focus on what they are the best at.

Also 10 bucks they are all hypocrites that love slice-of-life anime where nothing happens.

I've been using Fireden to read Falcom posts on halfchan Holla Forums and /vg/ and I've been shilling Xanadu Next too. There's a lot of false-flagging and historical ignorance in Trails threads over there. And Ys threads can get worse. You have a larger concentration of Felghana purists over there than ever, a few of them equating Kondo to Baba and trying to speculate about Falcom's future without understanding their past.

And they love to keep saying the dialogue/characters are bad w/o posting specific scenes and/or examples of what they prefer.

Mastiff's the company pushing Gurumin so hard, and they're way more likely to keep porting onto new systems than Falcom is at the moment. I'm baffled nothing's been done to port/localize Monarch Monarch and/or Vantage Master (Japan, Portable) to mobile/tablet, as those games are best fit for that platform.

Gurumin was such a good game except for the wooden acting at some points

I wonder… wouldn't it be good if XSEED could outsource ports of Falcom games to Mastiff? If they can port Gurumin to the 3DS, they can port the recent Falcom games to PC which I'm tempted to tweet about and ask other to RT and that shit to push them to do that

Of course is halfchan. Also, if they wanted to give a bad example of the writing, they could just talk about the overuse of the "hm-hm-hm".

Xanadu Next when

Summer 2016 :^)

so winter 2018?

That's the 3rd :^)

...

Why did Zwei II never get any console versions? Did Zwei!! on PSP not sell well?

Z2 sold like shit.

You know what, that makes more sense considering Zwei II was their last PC game.

The game has been fan translated for a while. Why bother waiting?

Speaking of fan translations, it seems like the one for Zero no Kiseki could be out by the the end of the year.

That translation is going to be a fucking mess.

I really, really wish Falcom did something to stop this release. That could hurt the release of the second arc.

Just going to say that if you play it with the expectation of a Gagharv machine translation you will be surprised, in a good way.

Some of us want to play Xseed's release. Plus i think they're using their own translation instead of reusing the fan one.

Channel in the embed does occasional Roland/Yamaha sound module remixes in an old "MIDI" style I like.

I just wish there was a way to know if Zwei!! II bombed because they marketed it poorly, PC gaming was really on its way out by 2008, or if the game just wasn't what Falcom fans despite it being a top-ranking choice in that fabled magazine survey held in 2006/2007.

Speaking of 2 2, minor update on the fan translation patch: seldane.proboards.com/post/190778

True, actual translation work's been done. I'm not expecting it to have the level of accuracy/editing quality XSEED's achieved so far, and I have enough games in my backlog that I can wait a few more years to get Crossbell in English.

Should be coming quickly now that Corpse Party PC's done, leaving Sara open to work on the release. Early August would be perfect.

Real talk, what problems have the team porting Little King's Story run into? Tom said they've run into roadblocks lately, delaying a release date announcement.

My pet peeve with Falcom's writing is their unwillingness to kill off characters, even after they've developed them enough and have room for death in the story. Ys Origin's better than most of their recent games about this, once again showing why Takeiri should remain lead writer.

TOM'S NEW AVATAR IS SHIT! SHIT!

That doesn't even make sense.

He means that fewer people may buy the game when it's released because they already played the fan translation.

Literally never ever. It's been "90% done" for six years.

Only a few hundred people will even know about the fan translation. They'll be fine.

No, that's the Moon RPG patch (or Segagaga's). Zwei!! II's patch has been in limbo for around half that time. Tancients and the hacker, zzblue, got back to work on this almost a year ago.

I think Zeromonkey's project has enough bad word of mouth surrounding it to deter most Trails fans.

It seems to be more hate at him rather than the project itself.

His own fault though for his Xseed remarks but most of the bad rep it has is because somehow nearly everyone seems to think he was the one who worked on Nayuta no kiseki.

You mean if it actually gets released.

...

The guy who did the Nayuta translation is working on Zero. I saw it on his gbatemp i think account the other day while looking at the thread for nayuta.

See? :^)

Am I missing something?

Exactly, as a hacker. Completely different. I don't know how people got the idea that zeromonkey translated Nayuta, their names are clearly different, but its making his projects credibility suffer.

And zeromonkey can do that perfectly fine on his own.

That's very true, but regardless of what he's said, doesn't mean the project will turn out as horrible as most say it will. Until he actually shows everyone else what they've done so far though, I guess people will still have their doubts.

Sure, it won't read as if it was translated by Google, but

It's a fucking disaster.

People got the idea that Zeromonkey translated Nayuta, because that guy got hired to work on he Zero translation.

The project will turn out horrible, because of the stupid instructions he gave to his translators. He told them to not worry about context and just translate the game literally. Not a single person working on the project has actually played a single game in the series, so there's a high probability that there is going to be inconsistencies with Xseed's translation, which I heard he doesn't actually care about that, but I don't have a source to back that up.

That's Nayuta you're thinking about. Zero has actual translators working on it.

Any idea about how the fuck does Dana know Adol from a long time? There's a Jap theory that it's Adol's daughter from the future, and don't forget the whole "it's actually Feena".

I doubt Falcom would drop the ball on this, but still.

I suppose it may sound biased, but as someone who has seen much more of the script than most I can say that if you think the project itself is a disaster and will end up being horrible, than that's fair enough, but you're wrong on some points.

Most obviously the fact that it machine translated, but that is the opinion of the majority.

Some of what Zero says and what he ends up doing is almost always going to be completely different. He used to be adamant about the name change to "Trails of the void" but as we know he ended up not using it. Some of the team members clearly know what their doing.

As far as I know the only people that offered for help was omgfloofy and gu4n. We know he turned down floofy's offer but he accepted gu4n's help as an advisor for some time, until he left recently.

Isn't Dana from the past? How can she be his daughter from the future?

WHY THE FUCK IS THE DARK FACT IN YS 1 SO FUCKING HARD

He bounces around in a pattern and you need to memorize that pattern to beat him. Don't forget to wear the silver equipment.

Ys 2 >>> Ys 1 tbh

Well now I feel like a retard for not using the Silver Equipment.

How so? More action or puzzle oriented? Better soundtrack and story?

Well this is going to be shit

2 added in a magic system

Ys II adds a lot more in terms of gameplay and a lot of neat little details. The level cap is changed from 10 to 60 and leveling up no longer gives you a massive boost in stats, so the game is overall more balanced. A magic system is introduced, and while it is basic, it does allow you to throw fireballs at NPCs for extra dialogue. You can carry consumable items to heal yourself during boss fights or on the field. You can even give these items to NPCs for extra dialogue, and they even say something different if you throw a fireball at them before. You can also transform into a monster and talk the other monsters as well, which lets you see how much the monsters actually fear you.

Overall, I personally think that Ys II is the best Ys game, because all these little details.

Sounds interesting, can't wait to start it soon, just finished Ys 1. Does the magic system mean you can use more potions, especially during boss fights?

Is it a longer game compared to Ys 1? I always wondered why the level cap was level 10, mainly because I'm new to the series right now.

Ys II is longer then Ys I, even if you ignore most of the side stuff and don't bother finding all the extra little secrets. If you do try to find all the little stuff, then the game is a lot longer then Ys I. Also, most Ys games aren't actually that long, and can usually be completed in 10 hours or less. Expect for the new games, which are a lot longer then the rest of the series.

He's not hard at all. Don't get me wrong, there are some hard bosses in that game, but he isn't one of them.

Completely agree, the little extra bits of detail even with the NPC's added to the games charm.
Escorting Tarf is easily one of the best escort missions, loved how he can fight alongside you if his level is high enough.

Prophecy exists, and 90% of them are about Adol, so…

Right now they have their hands full working on Ys VIII, and next year Sen 3.They won't have the time for a spinoff series for a while, though I do hear they're interested in a sequel for Tokyo Xanadu.

Looks like Naoki Kaneda did some of the best music in Ys V: twitter.com/KIMsSOUNDROOM/status/747291947232989186?s=09
vgmdb.net/forums/showpost.php?p=74865&postcount=6

He's still way more frustrating than versions of the fight prior to Ys Eternal, which are fast but not ludicrous Even if he's got deterministic he's still a far cry from Darm in Ys II if we're talking boss design.

Wait until XSEED falls victim, which they very likely won't.

Her being Feena (cuz of muh blue hair) or Eldeen or Adol's daughter from the future sounds unlike what Falcom would pull on their fans. If I had to guess, I think Falcom might be introducing another winged race, the Eldeen of their world's eastern hemisphere. Speculation seems frivolous since I'm already hyped for the game with or without.

Tancients worked on Xanadu Next's fan patch for a year and a half around that time, and things changed for the hacker(s). I'd rather XSEED beat this project to the punch now, but I think Tom's going to push Dinosaur Resurrection harder because Zwei!! could sell better when pushed with its sequel.

Kobe Xanadu pls

He's going to visit the Ys world's moons if these prophecies keep coming true.

And I don't even have any reaction images for it because they were on there too! i have the game installed on this laptop but I'm too bummed out to get back to where I was.

I guess I've learned my lesson to make backups regularly.

I'd take "Adol and Dogi's Space Adventures" any day.

Although I guess we have something similar to that already with Nayuta no Kiseki.

I know there non-canon, but between Mask of the sun and Dawn of Ys which one should i play?

I liked Dawn better than the remake

Go with Dawn. Better graphics, has voice acting along with much better sound quality.

Such a shame the Vita does so poorly.

Leaves only Nintendo when it comes to handhelds.

Well to be the devil's advocate:

Trails in the sky are very niché games. They are long and require a lot of reading.

Cold Steel is a very Japanese JRPG series.

Halfchan has become a mainstream forum now.

...

...

God damn, I want one. Is that part of the special edition or something?

It is. I'm sure XSEED will use it for its own special edition, since this was inspired by Celceta's travelogue from the Western release.

Does anyone have that pastebin with all the Falcom music downloads? To decide between the PC Engine and PC98 versions of LoH1 and 2 I'd like to compare the music.

You can check both versions on Falcom Music Channel.

PC-98 (music for LoH1 is identical in both PC-88 and PC-98 versions, since the PC-98 version didn't use the YM2608):

youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzFTGYa_evXg3WcbFc48DjahM9Yy9dro9
youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzFTGYa_evXjtJ_u0HMurhllzHJ0oIfKo

PC Engine CD:

youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzFTGYa_evXgnxNqitkP86ZIJWjQOwZbD
youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzFTGYa_evXi_6YdvCo9gHIeHxSNkeEBs

Embed the coolest boss theme.

Damn it, i like them both! They each have their own charms to them! The PC Engine versions have CD audio of course but I like the "punch" (for lack of a better term) that the PC-X8 versions have. I guess the PC Engine wins out on the fact that they have longer songs and I can emulate them on my Wii to display on my CRT more easily (sadly I have no actual PC Engine).

That Mega Drive version with Ridley on the cover seems pretty nice too, honestly.

Also, for the hell of it I decided to redownload my copy of the Windows version and even the installer doesn't run on this Windows 8 laptop. I'd still be stuck with MIDIs anyway.

...

...

Xanadu Next's app got updated 3 hours ago!

Slow bop version of Sorcerian's town theme, because why not

Here's the pastebin: pastebin.com/G2mswYCt

groovy

I got Tom to forward the release suggestions I made on XSEED Forums, too, so XaNext should be moving forward swiftly.

Mega Drive version of Legend of Heroes came out very late in the console's Japanese life-span yet had a lot of work put into it, which Compile also did for Madou Monogatari releases around that time. I'm not sure what Falcom expected from a 2-million console install base that didn't serve them well in the past, but they got Hirofumi Matsuoka to write new music for this LoH port and it all sounds great.

Looks like there will be a TV special about Ys VIII in the Japanese TV program of Game★Maniacs with Kondo commenting and that shit.

Also

Is there going to be somewhere I can stream this?

Streaming? You would need one of those programs to watch Japanese TV and hook up at the right time. I'm sure it will be uploaded, here's Sen and there's another for Sen II.

Which reminds me that NHK World did an episode about the series some time ago back when Azure was released:

youtube.com/watch?v=L0QwVVPv6zY

youtube.com/watch?v=g-VvVz73j3s

If it'll be uploaded anyway I'll go ahead and wait then. Thanks for posting that NHK thing too.

XSEED stream showing their last games. Cold Steel II will obviously appear.

I just finished that NHK World video and it reminded me that the Trails anime exists. Is it any good? Some of those faces looked a bit rough.

As an adaptation? Hell no. As a collection of clips about fights? Yes. Watch it if you finished SC. There's a the 3rd spoiler though.

gematsu.com/2016/06/ys-viii-details-sister-nia-lihit-endless-threats-sub-dungeons

I really hope this quantity of content won't hurt the quality of it.

twitch.tv/xseed_games

Starting almost now.

But adding higher resolutions to the game and the English script should be quite easy…

Winter 2016 confirmed?

WAS IT RAPE

One of the better Falcom doujin albums out there, specifically cuz it has an arrangement of Silver Will's prototype.

Endless Threats were probably easy to piece together, it's the extra dungeons I hope got attention. If they're better than Old Waterway from Ys Seven I'll be satisfied.

You're jumping the gun. They need to edit the script and show off parts of the game that aren't going to embarrass them during a stream. Sara also just got off the Corpse Party PC project, so it's gonna be launching around August or September.

Is this stream going to be uploaded to YouTube?

September? But they said summer…

Not bad…

Summer lasts through at least the first half of September, some would argue. I just want XSEED to give us more of a heads-up on when the game's releasing, in addition to marketing it. They should ensure this does better than Ark of Napishtim's numbers on GOG/Steam.

...

Have any of you bought the Zero no Kiseki PC port? I'm kind of curious about the quality since it was ported by Joyoland and not Falcom themselves. I can't imagine it's all that good since it sold badly enough that Falcom didn't bother bringing the Ao port over.

It's the PSP game running on PC with keyboard and mouse support, still running at 30 FPS.

I'm sure they will bring Azure to PC on Japan by using XSEED. Falcom still wants to get back to PC.

Any issues? I remember hearing the lighting of one of the Ys games got messed up with the port.

Really? Makes sense since they held on to the PC platform for as long as the could. With the success of their games on the PC in the West I guess they see a viable way back in.

Celceta's Chinese PC port don't have that lighting effect, but I don't think it's that bad, it was made to hide the awful framerate. En English patch makes the game run at 60 FPS.

Something that a lot of people forgets is that Falcom treasures its past quite well. Hell, the Falcom DLC skins pack of Dead or Alive has costumes from 199X franchises. They even released PC games around 2007, and the PC market on Japan was already dead for years, yet they still managed to survive. Zero for PC was released on 2013 after all.

DAILY REMINDER THAT ADOL SUCKS AS A PROTAG AND LITERALLY ANYBODY ELSE WOULD BE BETTER

Sony give me my $30 for Celceta back

I wonder which demon at the top of a really high tower that tries to reach the heavens made this post…

got to say TitS SC is not a bad game, but it's nowhere near as good as people here made me believe, while i enjoyed the background story, Joshua and the recycled content kinda ruined it to me.

I don't think Joshua is really an issue, I really liked how it was resolved. The problem is not about recycling content either, but more about how you reuse it. FC was about discovering Liberl. SC's first half doesn't know if it should emulate FC or be its own thing, and it was mostly "hey here's a new villain, meet him and go repeat this scheme next chapter". Then you have to revisit Liberl all over again later.

to me was a major one, i expected a Inaho(Aldnoah.zero) kind of character but instead got a tryhard Edgelord, i really despise him.

this is the major problem with SC, specially if you had just finished FC.

Joshua isn't a tryhard Edgelord at all, he isn't really emo or edgy. And the shit he has perfectly explains why he did that. An emo would be sad or suicidal for the sake of it, and so edgy shit, but he never was arrogant or an extremely sad character.

He even realizes he may have not made the best decision after Estelle finally catches up to him. I don't understand when people call Joshua an edgelord. Sure he has his moments but he has reasons for it and Estelle helps balance him out.

sure user

But does he have reasons to say that or it's just for the sake for being an attention whore and try to make others feel pity for him?

You're just jealous a depressed animu kid is dicking best girl

You want edgy, look at Renne :^)

Is she as edgy in the Japanese version? I heard XSEED kind of toned it up.

Plot-wise, the worst part of SC for me was when Loewe, after finally reuniting with Joshua, dies, and Weissmann goes "yeah, I made the war that killed her happen! Am I enough evil now?" It felt like trying to rub salt on the wound just for easy emotional points

Too bad we'll never get western releases for so many other things. Learning moon is exhausting.

SASUGA FALCOM

Also 8 minutes of Ys VIII

I was thinking of buying Ys: Memories of Celceta on the Vita, but then I noticed that it said that NIS America published it (ausfag). Did they do anything stupid with this one?

They handled the European release on XSEED's behald, using XSEED's localization. And this has been happening for some time with other XSEED releases outside Marvelous Europe's reach.

Thank you friend. I have bought it.

ARKYS GAMES ARE GOING TO RELEASE TOKYO XANADU FOR PS VITA AND STEAM IN 2017

twitter.com/RPGSite/status/749709115438485504

WHAT THE FUCK

Also the lack of the PS4 version feels like it's going to be the Vita version and not the PS4 version with the extra content. Kinda worried. Didn't see this coming.

worry.png

I have no idea about them. Enlight me.

They've got a few bad seeds on their localization team, so it's like Russian roulette.

It could be trash like their otome games and blazblue games, or it can end great like Muramasa did.

At least it won't end up broken like something NISA would do

Well..This was unexpected.

God damn took a while, but its finally here.
Do these even sell well?

The PS4 version isn't even out in japan

I know, thats why Im asking
Ive heard that other games have done the same and havent sold that well.

New thread theme, lol

Falcom's going to find out once they bring eX+ and Ys VIII to PS4 in Japan, then overseas.

PS4 software sells good for Japan's level. I have the feeling devs are jumping from the Vita to the PS4.

Akiba's Trip PS4 version sold pretty well despite releasing long after the vita/ps3 releases there. It all depends on the game

Aight thanks

Where do the SNES games fit in to the lore?

Which series? Ys?

yea I remember playing it a long time ago when I rented and got frustrated when I couldn't finish before I had to return it.

It doesn't fit with the current modern games at all. The Oath in Felghana pretty much replaced that entry in the series.

Ys III on SNES was supplanted by Oath in Felghana, as says.

Ys IV: Mask of the Sun was, for a long time, the canon version of IV, but Memories of Celceta is Falcom's official interpretation of the design documents they produced around 1992 but licensed to other developers, plus new additions. So it's canon, albeit farther away from the original draft than MotS.

Ys V has not yet been remade. It centers around Adol's trip to Xandria and the Phantom City of Kefin, involving him in a centuries-long struggle for supremacy over the art of Kefin's Alchemy and the consequences of it running into meltdown. The Super Famicom game (I'm assuming there will be a Ys V remake, since President Kondo's mentioned he has ideas for one) has a bit less than half the content Falcom produced and wrote in their design documents, one reason why it sunk the series for 8 years. Plus, characters like Stoker and Orwell are new to the 1995 release, not in the drafts at all. So far Xandria/Kefin doesn't tie into the Eldeen lore, but Adol is the fated hero of the land; Dogi was set to appear in Ys V (his potential love interest remains), but that didn't happen.

Can't wait for the writers to introduce jokes about their love triangle.

I think Dogi will appear in the new Ys V at some point, maybe closer to halfway through the game after he's done cleaning up in Felghana. Falcom would probably have him hit on Effie at the desert town, but he's not settling down with her like he does in the drafts. Stoker and Foresta may or may not stay—the former becoming Adol's companion for most of the game would make sense, since you already carry his Contact Ring all the way to deep within Kefin where it suddenly matters.

Damn

YES

I don't have a PS4 and I was worried it would come to PS4 only. Although the list of PS4 games coming out that I want is growing, so I might get one eventually.

Just wait for the PS4.5 or whatever to come out and the price for a used regular ps4 will tank

I want to be excited, but Arkys being the localizers just kill my excitement.

Did Falcom approach them to release the game in the west? I remember Xseed saying that Falcom wanted to release Cold Steel really badly in the west, and if Xseed did take their offer, they would ask someone else instead. Then I remember Kondo saying that he really wanted to release TX in the west several months ago. I guess Xseed didn't want to take another game while their plate was full, so Falcom asked Arkys instead.

Do we at least know know who's doing the PC port? Arkys, or Falcom themselves? I hope it's Falcom. Then maybe we can get the Cold Steel games on PC.

Either Falcom's getting their programmers to work on this in-between projects or Aksys has contracted an outside port team. But there's not been any word on this at all, so who knows.

XSEED likely has first right of refusal on Falcom game localization, so they must just have too much other work to deal with at the moment.

Anyone have any idea why I can't import TiTS FC clear data to SC on the PSP? It just tells me it's corrupted, even if I try someone else's clear data. I'm on 6.35 Pro b

TitS SC should require a higher firmware version. Maybe the spoofer is causing the problem. I'd update to a 6.61 cfw and try again.

Thanks user. I'll try updating then

Does Arkys make PC ports at all? I don't think it's by Falcom, if it were by them, it would include the Ex+ content and shit.

Do you guys think they'll have the eX+ content as DLC or something?

ARE YOU GUYS READY FOR MEMES

llamalikereviews.blogspot.com.es/2015/11/aksys-games-rant.html

Read the thread

Anyone else get annoyed when people call Falcom's PC releases PSP ports? All it takes is a glance at a Wikipedia page to see that they aren't (except for the Joyoland ports of course but we don't have those). I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone call Ys Origin a PSP port yet.

You are not the only one. I bet they think that JRPGs were born on the NES with the release of Final Fantasy.

YES, I'M BUYIN DAT SHEIT ON RELEASE

Anyone have any idea how to undub TiTS SC for PSP? I tried replacing the data_sc/se/ (sound effect I presume) folder with the one from the JP version. Still got English voices after doing that though so it probably doesn't use those files in the /se/ folder (which I've confirmed are sound effects + voices). My guess is it's something in the data_sc/battle2/ folder, but I can't easily replace those since there's more of them in the ENG version and the file sizes vary too much messing up the .iso rebuilding.

Third TV ad.

She is going to have a miserable life, isn't she?

FUCK

Which port of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys should I play?

Oath in Felghana :^)

That's a different game :^)

LACRIMOSA OF DANA

LAC RI MOSA

It's "La-cri-mo-sa"

How did you guys get dragged into Falcom? Summer Sale 2015 for me, Trails in the Sky was loads better than I expected.

I think a friend on Steam told me that Oath in Felghana was good and I got it on some sale. This might have even been before Origin was out or at least a bit after. Since then I've played just about every Falcom game I could get my hands on (except Cold Steel which I bought then decided against playing because the games before it aren't out yet).

Gagharv town themes are so breezy and timeless.

I love how she became a brunette in Ys VI when she had brown hair in Ys V SFC. Maybe Niena will have that color instead.

For audiovisuals, PC Engine CD. For balance and historic interest, the PC-88 original. I've heard mixed things about X68k in terms of balance, though its soundtrack is ace.

Bunch of friends kept talking up Trails in the Sky FC near its Steam release, so I decided to give that and Ys I & II Chronicles+ a shot. I knew about Ys already from several years back, but XSEED's made it easier to get into the series than ever.

How the hell do I beat the damn bat boss in Ys I?

Thanks Hermione.

So the guys behind the Devolution ports were asked about what would they do with the "evolution" series, and they pointed that maybe they could go for the Gagharv trilogy next.

and they will NEVER EVER get localized

It might. Who knows?

Shit, if that happens then I might have to put off playing them even longer.

*rakurimosa

I can see contractural bullshit getting in the way of any potential Gagharv EVO localization.

Don't talk bad about Renne user.

She had a hard life.

PS4 sells better than Steam, and usually at full price. Unlike Steam were people won't buy until a deep discount.

Is she slightly more likable in the original Japanese release?

Bruh, 近藤 is Falcom's Kondo.

And that's not what the interview says, though. It's just Kondo himself saying - again - that he'll would like to remake White Witch.

Embed video in better quality.

Why is Maya so sexy?

If anyone cares about undubbing the PSP version of SC I figured it out, but I need help to recompress the modified ED6 .dat archives (they use .bcc files in the PSP version which are the same as the .dat files from the PC version but without an accompanying .dir file).

I tried contacting asmodean that did the FC PSP undub, but he seems to be dead or something.

esterior.net/2016/07/full-tracklist-for-the-ys-viii-lacrimosa-of-dana-soundtrack-now-available/

Don't know if it's been mentioned but release window for Trails 3rd.

live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv267946399

They are going to show Ys VIII then Trails the 3rd devolution. Anyone knows exactly when? "29:00" looks like a confusing hour to me.

Not new to Falcom, but lemme ask as a console primary, what does it take to run all this on a toaster? I know I'll be looking to transition to PC within the next year's time.

What do you mean? Looking for low specs PC to buy or something?

I'm going to be doing comparisons on a new PC (ground up) vs maybe improving the desktop I'm using. I know I want it to run Win 8 at the most (7 if I can get away with it—aware my time's limited on that option).

This desktop is 10 years old, now. I don't intend to play Witcher 3 or anything of the like, for example. JPN games are traditionally fine on low-spec, aren't they? Since they don't practice optimization like the West does.

You'd need a pretty fucked up PC in order for any Ys to not run properly.

The fuck are you talking about?

Good if you have no idea, trust me.

Noted.

I did this quest and I have no clue what you're talking about.

Do you have a Speccy of your current PC? It can't be that bad, yeah your options are limited with older tech but it's not impossible.

Pentium(R) D 2.80Ghz
2.79 GHz, 3.75GB of RAM (4 sticks)
ATI Radeon x300 se 128mb vid card

You can run PC Falcom games just fine.

Some Steam numbers from the last sale. Anything not noted sold under 5000 copies. Some games have huge fluctuations, Oath numers is a joke is a joke on SteamSpy, probably because it's not selling these days. I wonder if it has to do with the shit trailer.

Hot damn.

I would have an image to express "hot damn" but I don't have one. Hopefully I can recover the data from my hard drive cause I miss having relevant images.

Forgot to say that Falcom "only" needs to sell 100k copies to reach one million on Steam.

Is that including Gurumin numbers?

Yes

steamspy.com/dev/Nihon Falcom

They most likely will reach that million by the time Trails 3rd is out.

Still the Ys games are selling well. Is there a reason why xseed never got Falcom to release a Japanese version of Celceta on PC?

That would be much more profitable than what they want to do with Ao no Kiseki.

Falcom is small as fuck and only focuses on its own market.

Isn't the PS4 version of Ys 8 being put out mainly for the west? By extension I would think the same for Tokyo Xanadu eX+.

From Guan

It is, that's why it's is surprising. Expanding Falcom's audience it's one of the current Kondo's politic. Falcom it's pretty easy to read for me, but lately it's been the opposite.. I'm sure they are in the middle of a change right now.

Also Xanadu Next got updated 24 hours ago. Maybe it will get released soon, getting updates every few days it's a good sign.

...

Which is why Falcom needs Western publishers to release their games in the West. They can't do it themselves.

For a long time nobody in the West was interested in Falcom. Finally some small publishers have found that they can make some money on translating Falcom games.

I just found the Ys MMO ost

youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtZnXTqEuF__yJ4LS1L31on00HIJWOYJ6

Think it's going to include most of the locations from both previous games?

I've heard that a big part of Erebonia is still unexplored by the end of CS II. I can imagine that other half of the empire + what's explored on CS I & II for III.

I wonder how big the script could be.

Do we visit Hamel in CS II?

No idea, plus I haven't played CS to see if it would be relevant tot he plot… it would make sense if it was.

Would be cool. Tbh I hope Estelle is in CS III as a cameo :^)

…and again XN got updated (7 hours ago).

I can see the game being released next month… and maybe even on July.

Sorcerian MT-32 soundtrack's up on Falcom Music Channel now. Embed related, it's a version of Beautiful Day with its main part gutted in favor of a solo, sums up most of the arrangements. A lot of auxiliary FM op/channel parts were gutted, too, making it more a curiosity to listen to.

Disgraceful.

lol, I can't imagine there's much work needed, and the ideas I suggested to them (ex. outputting the in-game History log to a .txt file in a directory of your choice for outside viewing, fixing mini-map vector proportions, &c.) aren't going to hold Sara back too much. Main features will be all-time-best Windows compatibility, true widescreen (likely after Sara got it working in Felghana), upgraded in-game assets, bug fixes, and maybe limited time attack w/o online leaderboards.

I didn't realise Mail was there

Also… if they are going to release sequels to Tokyo Xanadu (because it sold gangbusters for Falcom standards) I wonder if they will be stuck for a decade on making Ys/Trails/TX games exclusively. That would fucking suck. It already sucks, anyway. Will they ever get back to their glorious 2000s with tons of new and old IPs?

Nope.

Enforcers coming on through

We're still getting new IPs, though, just not the ones we'd really like. Toxanadu was an easy one to put together, but it's not like no effort wen into it. (I want Kobe Xanadu next, though, because all Tachikawa all the time would be a waste of time and trust). Biggest problem is Falcom's locked themselves into finishing Kiseki-—more than can be said for Konami and Suikoden, but it's crushing Falcom's development schedule. And I think Kondo expects to put a lot of work into a new Sorcerian game like the one he mentioned earlier this year. The 2003-2009 period isn't coming back for a while now that Falcom's stuck developing for consoles, at least until they can pull a Hollywood-China gambit where games are developed for console but made in mind for PC players overseas.

I'd be happy if, for starters, Falcom stopped naming their new IPs using scraps from older ones (Nayuta isn't Kiseki and Toxanadu isn't Xanadu). Kondo even admits he didn't respect the Xanadu release cycle by slapping the name atop Cold Steel vs. Zwei!!. Besides, Falcom fans on Vita will probably buy anything they release at some point, so there shouldn't be any need to mislabel games.

Are we really sure about that? The whole Mythos backstory could very easily be used to fill in the Great Collapse.

gematsu.com/2016/07/ys-viii-40-60-hours-long-trails-cold-steel-iii-launches-2017-japan

So 80 to 100 since I'm slow as shit :^)

Been replaying Cold Steel without any NG+ carry overs, and I manged to "beat" Sara by turning Rean into a dodge tank. Shame she doesn't use her S-Craft, or even mentions being brought down to 1 HP.

Doesn't Towa have the same last name as Nayuta? There might be a connect between the two, or it could be Falcom fucking with the fanbase.

I really want to import VIII, but the price is a bit too steep for me. Hope Xseed doesn't take too long to release VIII, if they're even releasing it at all.

Man, that sucks. Falcom usually gives some extras when you beat "seemingly unbeatable" bosses.

Cold Steel what the fuck are you doing.

...

...

...

...

I know that if you manage to get Victor down to half his health, he just starts spamming his S-Craft with 0 delay. Rean even says that he's honored he got to see it, so I hoping something similar would happen with Sara.

Giving you a false sense of security.

We usually get six party members, with two of them using slash attacks. Since Dana is the only other playable character that can use it, I think she'll somehow join the party later on. Unless there's on more hidden character that we don't know about.

I thought Adol was 20 at that point.

Yeah, I immediately regret posting that, given that shit has gone completely insane.

Cold Steel II is coming out on November 11th in the EU. NA might get it sometime in October.

OI VEY WHY DON'T YOU PAY FOR THE SAME GAME AGAIN AND BUY OUR NEW ARRANGED ALBUM AND ALSO BUY AGAIN THE ORIGINAL OST?

Actually not too bad.
I was expecting more of a disaster after their Zero no Kiseki video.

There are still some obvious stylistic fuck ups: territory would read better as jurisdiction, etc. Still, glad that that we'll get it before 2030.

Is this true?

Yup.

store.playstation.com/#!/ja-jp/ゲーム/追加アイテム/オリジナルサウンドセット/cid=JP0117-PCSG00490_00-ADDCORIGINALBGMS

Isn't this translated by Gu4n and co. instead?

Sure it doesn't, but how accurate can it be?

Lol no.

Why? They didn't have to do anything with the old soundtrack. Unless they had to pay Falcom for it, they have no excuse to charge money for it.

It wasn't machine translated. They actually got real translators to work on the game, but the problem is, everyone was told to give out a translation without worrying about context.

Thanks for clearing that part.

Still, that was fucking retarded. Japanese is a language where context can mean everything, and that's pretty common. it's going to be a disaster that "doesn't read too bad"

Yeah, it's a shame that Zero is getting this treatment. If the project lead didn't act like an idiot, then we probably would have gotten a good translation, before TitS 3rd came out. Then Xseed could have bought it, do some editing magic, and then we end up getting the game at a reasonable time after 3rd came out.

Sadly non of that happened, or is going to happen, and at best we're going to end up with a passable, but not good, fan translation.

Xanadu Next got updated 30 minutes ago

Xseed plz stop taunting me

And that itself is extremely difficult to do without having played the games.

Strangely enough, they do end up using the XSEED localisation for Arios' title, instead of Sword Saint for someone with no context.

Either the project lead knows more than we think he does, or they finally managed to recruit someone who does. I truly hope it's the latter.

They are in this thread, aren't they?

Hiding in the shadows like the jew who smells the tax collector.

Tempting us, letting us build hopes and dreams and expectations and then breaking it all with their silence.

I bet they are all commie faggots.

Release Little King's Story already you pinko fags
At least make the Steam store page public, you said early 2016

XSEED doesn't come to these threads, where are you getting this idea from? And, well, of course the game wasn't released earlier, it had its own sorts of problems that the programmers had to deal with in order to port it for the PC.

Seriously, it's not our problem if it had to be delayed, it's not like we are pun-ishing you on purpose ;)

- Totally random Holla Forums user

I did hear that were recently hiring people who know the series to help keep things consistent, but the point is, they should have done this since the beginning. Now they'll have to do a lot of unnecessary testing and editing to make sure everything sounds right.

Xseed never makes the store page public until there's one week till the game's release. If the LKS screenshots they're posting mean anything, then the game almost done

LOL

Alright thanks.

3rd Evo actually looks really fun. Although, it does have some errors with the names like "Gral ritter" and "Sepsian Churh," but nothing too major.

I prefer a quality product, not NISA. If it takes time so be it.

The only Falcom game I've been able to enjoy was Popful Mail.

Working Designs localized that game, right? Maybe that had something to do with it.

TOOOOOOM

It's funny because it's at the bottom of Falcom ARPGs.

...

Motherfucking Next Step Toward the Unknown

Thanks user. I never thought I'd say these words

Still the best Ys VIII track so far.

Somehow cool Falcom vocal songs keep popping up.

Popful Mail's about mid-tier.

Seriously though, how long until XSEED announces Ys VIII? The game is finally out, they can start negotiating and shit with Falcom.

I feel a bit paranoid though, what if they give Ys VIII to a different publisher because they can port the game to PC?

There's a chance they might not announce anything until the Ps4 version is out. Still I can't see it releasing until at least late next year.

Bump

Should I?
