Lmao it was always in a tracker format. Pixel wrote his own tracker and a program to compose in said tracker. It's why the original version is a few megabytes.

Cave Story+ and I think the updated WiiWare versions exported said tracker files into .ogg because they couldn't get it working. From memory the percussion was too loud and instruments were missing.
