nice joke m8

I think he's an ass, but anyone who's willing to actually do anything is respectable.

Eh he's a namefag not a trip don't put me on his level

He's a pop-anarchist which in itself isn't bad, we need a certain degree of popularity to succeed. The problem is that he doesn't understand far-left theory, he makes blatant mistakes. If someone would educate him he'd be fine. I mean his comedy efforts would still be the most shallow thing in existence but at least we'd get some decent propaganda out of this.

Funnily enough I've actually read his book.

It's content-less. He's class conscious but he has no actual theory to give alternatives with, he just realises that we cant fix the problems of today's society without external action.

If you think of it more as a biography rather than a political book it's much better, provided you're interested in Russel Brands life.

As for Russel Brand in general I actually like him, I feel like the reason people here dont like him is because they get frustrated that he's the most relevant mainstream 'leftist' but literally knows nothing about leftism, even though he would be extremely open to the actual theory if someone told him about it.

Either way though, he's largely irrelevant now anyways.

The book is quite okay and I really do like the guy. He's turned quite a few liberals (like housewives who would follow his antics regardless) hard left. For that reason alone, I think he's a really cool guy

he's cool you stupid faggots, it takes a lot of balls to put your celebrity to use for actual leftism and not bullshit liberalism.

you should always have some semblence of respect for those willing to put their leftism on their sleave to take reactionary bullshit. its not totally gay

I'm skeptical of any celebrity that criticises capitalism in between coke-fuelled orgies with star-struck teenagers and other celebs

Russell Brand is sober living these days. He went to rehab and got off drugs and alcohol a long time ago. He has been very vocal about his past addiction demons. He even has a documentary on Netflix about drug addiction (including personal anecdotes) and another documentary on the war on drugs. He has a documentary about income inequality as well. Russell Brand is legit. You don't have to be well-read in 19th century Marxist literature to be a leftist. Tbh I didn't enjoy reading The Communist Manifesto. I can't get over the 19th century language. Is there a Communist Manifesto written in late 20th century/21st century language?

I have some Amazon gift card credit and really could use a good book. But $31.56CAD on Amazon.ca. Holy shit. lol. Is this a textbook? WTF? How do publishers come up with these prices?

$31.56CAD for the Kindle edition. lol. Not hardcover/paperback!

...

I pirate eBooks from time to time but I buy a lot of them too. After I heard about people getting hit with ransomware recently, I'm worried about getting viruses trying to find eBook torrents.

I think I found it on Pirate Bay anyway. lol. I guess his book is kinda popular.

Funny thing, I remember he said he wants people to pirate it if they can't afford because information should be free etc

The torrent on piratebay has both the .epub (works with Android) and .mobi (works with Kindle).

i was a big fan of him when i was younger and knew fuckall about politics.

anyway can people recommend any good books on the subject?

a stupid hippie retard that has contributed nothing to leftist thought.

Granted, but he has shifted quite a few liberals far leftward. Certainly much more than alayn badoo, bordeega, and althooser combined

their works will live on and have likely influenced many. brand is alreadyour irrelevant. also we are absolutely no closer to actually achieving emancipation. this will only be achieved by analyzing current conditions and seeing where we can go from there.

true. would be good to use it as a foothold for the left to reach out to people though. "you're disgruntled, you aren't a frothing at the mouth right winger, you realize the need for a full overhaul of the system? Join the socialist party."

kek

for me it's because he's not particularly knowledgeable, but portrays himself as a counter culture, revolutionary figure head of sorts. Like, he seems genuine, but if he is, pick up a book and direct others to similar sources of information.

I found it surprisingly easy to read actually

That's not a manifesto. Do you not know what the word manifesto means? Capital by Marx wasn't a manifesto either. Piketty hasn't even read Capital, he said so in an interview.
