This shit seems like it was written as an opinion piece by someone who is staunchly anti-video games. A religious extremist? I don't know, but I feel the need to break this bullshit down:
Immediately, there is no source given to prove that social, physical, and emotional problems arise as a result of playing video games. Are we meant to take the author's word for it? If you make a claim, you need to back it up with evidence; usually in the form of a series of well presented and unanimously agreed upon scientific publications that not only establish an understanding of the effects of the study, but also can provide a demonstration or definitive proof of the outcome.
What defines "a great deal of time"? An hour a day? Four hours a day? Everyone's going to have their own interpretation on what constitutes over consumption, and unless you can provide evidence that definitively proves that X amount of time will result in Y outcome, then you're merely making extrapolations. One could also take contention with the alternative activities that are presented and implied to be more worthwhile; studying is only to a benefit if such skills being learned are practical and can be applied in order to derive some outcome. Studying by itself isn't worthy of praise or merit. In that regard, a person could spend the majority of their time studying, but fail to apply what they've learned and create anything meaningful. Would this mean that they'd have better spent their time elsewhere? Socializing and sports can be approached in a similar manner. Participating in these things for their own sake does not make you a more well rounded, wholesome, and morally righteous individual than someone who would rather bury their face in a book. The author holds a hierarchy in their mind, and video games is low on the list of important things. That's fine, but it does not mean that their hierarchy is an ultimate and unwavering bastion of morality, and it certainly should not be used as a metric by which others ought to measure their own worth.
Which studies? Cite your sources or fuck off. For the sake of argument, even if what is written here is true, this still does not take into consideration that it is possible for the average person to create a schedule that will allow them to both exercise and indulge in personal hobbies, and that includes playing video games.

There can't be a source, if there was, it would tell the complete opposite because most videogames are played online with/against other people, and they help develop reflexes and hand-eye coordination, the educational part could be a bit harder to justify, but there's historically accurate videogames out there (until they start banning them to promote a more diverse and inclusive version of history, or Ourstory, since "His" would be sexist) and pretty much anyone who didn't speak english in here, learned it through videogames first and school second.

This isn't even caused by videogames.
There has been cases of schools having to resort to hand exercises because most of their kids weren't used to drawing with crayons, but left with an iPad in their hands from their parents. This form of neglect of course will lead to no muscle development.
