I might be insterested in making a VN, I'd like your guys opinions on them. For now I've played Unteralterbach to its completion and a bit of Demonbane. I'm interested in good examples of dialogue and flow of VNs, also VNs that have interesting mechanics that make them unique, hentais welcome.
Maybe, but the most interesting ones are the ones that most resemble actual videogames. And you guys seem to know well what is shit and what is gold.
OP, for the love of god, read books and git gud at drawing, so you can make a good VN. you have 30 minutes before swat hit your house good luck
Matthew Garcia
This. I also enjoyed Virtues Last Reward
Nathan Morris

Adrian Hall
Umineko is a fun wild ride. Entirely linear with no real gameplay though.
Connor Morris
maybe
I'd read books if I wanted to write a book. I want examples of good VNs, what work for books might not work for VNs, what certainly is the case vice versa.
Thanks, but I'm trying to avoid creepy violent shit, nothing against it, but not my goal here.
For now then I have YU-NO, steins;Gate and the Zero Escape series on my list… Should I mention that a big focus of it is probably going to be romance and mistery solving?
Ryder Fisher
Umineko may be at it's core an occult themed murder mystery but it is hardly violent or creepy.
Carter Morales
Do not do something you're not confident you can do well. Fucking pisses me off when a vn tries and fails y miserably when it can do x well. Keep anything and everything japanese out of it.
Angel Butler
Have you played tokimeki memorial and /or True Love, they had a mini stat bulding system which helped you earn money and get stuff and also build your stats, this was important because for example it would be easier to meet and hang out with girls from sports clubs if you played that as your hobby, or if you maxed your looks, some girls will throw themselves at you .I miss those dating sim elements, and i think a dating sim is just a VN with some actual gameplay elements.
Zachary Perez
Hang on, I might be confusing it with higurashi, aren't they related in any way? A friend showmed some parts of the Higurashi anime and that shit was fucked up.
k
Tokimeki memorial is that one Arino played one time in Game Center CX, right? Dating sims elements are cool, I'm considering using those, I'm afraid of making the thing grindy or a race against the clock, tough.
Robert Morgan
Made by the same people.
Henry Barnes
I think Shuffle! was a romance/mystery VN then again it may have been an eroge. Higurashi was definitely a mystery type VN though.
Isaac Jackson
I'm fine with those. Who knows what directtion this thing goes on…
Isaac Long
If you can read moon I think Chaos;Head was a psychological/mystery VN also the prequel of sorts to Steins;Gate. I'm not sure if it ever got a translation, though chances are it did.
Zachary Lee
It got a full english patch. I read the English one, but I dunno man. The protagonist was a huge fuckboy. Dunno if that matters to OP, but that sure ruined it for me. But on it being related to Steins;Gate, I can't even remember if they reference it in any way other than the name of one of the ost tracks. I know the creators said it was, but I dunno.
I dunno what kinda time you have to read all these VNs OP, but zero escape has some puzzle game to it and the final part is coming out soon if you wanna get on the ball with that. Bare in mind the name convention is bonkers since it started as 999, then went Zero Escape: virtues last reward when they wanted to put it all under a Zero Escape brand, and ends with zero time dilemma coming out the 28th of this month
Michael Foster
I'll check it out
Its easy when you have 4 monitors, just play a bunch of them at once with 4 wiimotes. NEET, and I don't have to finish them all, if it's feeling bland or not what I'm aiming for I can always stop midway through.
Colton Jones
Oh yeah the MC is a massive faggot, but it's the kind of genre OP is looking at so I just thought I'd suggest it as it might be of use. Also when I say related to Steins;Gate, it is, sort of. The events in Chaos;head are alluded to in Steins;Gate, or rather they mention an "incident". There's also the Committee of 300, who are the masterminds behind the antagonists of both series.
Andrew Cook
I missed that entirely, thought it was just CERN turned Cyberdyne. Been a while since I read it though Ease up on those dubs, god damn. Making a man feel inadequate here
One issue with the zero escape stuff though, you gotta have the handhelds(either) for anything but the latest entry. Don't get the phone port, its bare bones. 3ds pirating is an easy dream these days though if you don't wanna toss money at nips. 999 is a DS game, so you'll need the cartridge or just play it on a DS emulator or something since DS rom carts are a pain in the ass to get working on the 3ds
Logan Gray
Here's the obligatory Saya no Uta mention. It's a horror/mystery story with great atmosphere. Doesn't do anything interesting mechanically though.
Benjamin Sullivan
Did someone say moon?
Isaac Cook
Kara no Shoujo is pretty good.
Angel Morris
Did someone say moon?
Brayden Collins
You guys have any opinions on Chaos;Head, Chaos;Child and Robotics;Notes?
Jordan Rogers
is UAB worth playing in the least? Am I gonna be put on some list for playing it? Is there even a decent story or is it just a loli-fucking simulator?
All I really know about it is the memery I've seen posted around
Leo Fisher
memes + lolis, but yeah, worth playing.
Carter Garcia
If you're posting here, you're already on that list. So fuck it, enjoy the game.
Oliver Green
Nigga
Evan Morgan
Love Plus had that real time stuff
John Cruz
First there's Sengoku Rance. It's actually one of my favorite games. Everything about it is great/amazing, highly recommend.
Clannad is half romance in a high school setting and half adult life. Some people find it dull, some people it hits too close to home.
ef - fairy tale of the two. Romance, but done fairly well.
Symphonic Rain is short but sweet music/romance focused.
Saya no Uta is babby's first VN, but great nonetheless.
Kamidori Maester Alchemist is Final Fantasy Tactics lite, featuring the biggest man-slut in the history of porn. The draw here is the porn, not the gameplay or story.
Little Busters! is power of friendship.
Majikoi is power of friendship + dick.

VNs are not games, and Mark is a tard for thinking they are.
Benjamin Lee
Got excited because I saw a bunch of new titles, but then I realized that it was a /jp/ list and most are still in Japanese.
Mark doesn't think they're video games.
Alexander Nguyen
Most of them aren't video games, but they belong on Holla Forums just like light novels belong on /a/.
Lincoln Williams
I'm not a lolifag and really enjoyed it, if that says anything.
Wyatt Cox
I'm surprised no one has said everlasting summer, its free on steam, though I guess not everyone likes old Russian VNs with somewhat bad art.
Xavier Carter
Are you a lolifag after you played it?
Jason Lee
Chaos;Head is flawed but is overall great, however if you wait for a translation or read Japanese you should play Chaos;Head Noah. It is apparently as high quality as Steins;Gate, since it fixes the main issues with the original version, such as the linear amount of endings and the lack of character development outside the main character. I haven't personally played either Chaos;Child or Robotics;Notes but from what I have heard Chaos;Child is exceptional and Robotics;Notes is a pretty weak title.
Anthony Jones
It's complete fucking shit.
Michael Butler
Also I forgot to post this.
Kayden Bell
I think the era of people being crazy enough to translate million-word-long texts for free is pretty much over. I think all the people involved in that have all pretty much aquired sexual disabilities, become SJWs, and/or killed themselves at this point
Jaxon Hernandez
Anyone got the jew webm?
Alexander Barnes
somewhat
Nathan Sanders
nah, it still happens. Just that you're starting to realize how slowly these VNs actually do get fanslated.
Jace Harris
"Somewhat bad art" is being charitable, but I did enjoy it. I liked the blending of escapism and nostalgia.
Connor Williams
I know, I was trying to be charitable because I really enjoyed, and wouldn't want someone to gimp out on enjoyable story just because the art is shit. damn, I got caught shilling a free game
Luis Cox
Y'all niggas is gay. OP, play Fate Stay/Night. It's up there with Yu-No and Steins;Gate.
Brandon Brooks
It's alright. The sex scenes are hilariously bad writing though. Perfect example of how not to do sex in a VN.
Sebastian Robinson
A prostitute of intellect I see. Does she tip her labia?
Christian Morales
first up, stop playing western crap
Dylan Morales
m8, that's fucking hilarious. Of course you're not supposed to take the sex scenes seriously in a VN, they're just there because it's pretty much a requirement. Unless it's a Nukige, then you're not supposed to take any part of it seriously.
Charles Morales
Unteralterbach is actually pretty clever and well written. It's best if you can speak German and have an understanding of the culture.
Would character development do the game well? I thought a huge part of the game's charm was how everyone else felt like a perfect stranger, and that you're the odd one left out, unknowingly involved in some larger occult madness
Wyatt Anderson

Odious Manly Genuflection With Terrible Fury: Only True Lamentation is genuinely my favourite visual novel. Little Busters! comes in second and is probably the only story to make me laugh until I cried and then cry until I laughed.
Jayden Moore
Well, obviously the only option is to make a game about cripple loli monstergirls.
Underrated post, holy shit.
Nicholas Ramirez
i'll be lambasted for mentioning a tranny sjw's game, but digital: a love story
free, too.

Lucas Collins
Digital: A Love Story was great. Excellent even (for an OELVN). It's the 'sequel' that was ass.
Parker Ortiz
Yurifag here, is this worth a buy?
I'm tempted to throw my money at it so Steam will put out more unconsored eroge, but isnit worth paying for?
I'll pirate it ifnit isn't.
Zachary Hill

I was planning to read it.

Otoko Dogeza Jigoku is a complete joke. Mind you, however, it's one of the best jokes ever told. I have to play Crimsoness too.
Its when the author starts to push the SJW agenda. You can ignore it for the most part, and have a decent time. Solid VN, has a few interesting mechanics and there is a definite feeling of choice. Hate Plus is a railroaded story, though. You can only read it, and nothing you do really matters. And when the author really strong armed the strong wymin make horrible choices business. And there's not a thing you can do besides watch the story unfold, even in the present.
Michael Scott
If you're not a Jap, don't try and write in Jap stuff. It always ends up being weeb trash when that happens.

Danganronpa, 999, and their sequels
dangit ron paul is a collection of batshit insane plot twists. A lot of it doesn't make much sense when you look at it closely, but it is a wild ride your first time through. It captivated me more closely than any other game the first time I played it because I was very curious as to what would happen next.
999 on the other hand has less ridiculous characters and story, but it's more of an actual game because there's a whole bunch of different endings and the puzzles are pretty good.
DR2 had better murder cases than 1 (especially Ch. 5) but I'd say everything else was somewhat worse like the less contained setting, less memorable characters (still very fun though), and the ending was pretty cheap (as far as those type of endings go though, I'd say they executed it pretty well).
VLR has more complicated ending/timeline than 999, better characters, and better puzzles but the story is pretty dumb.
William Diaz
What exactly is wrong with the art? I see people complaining about it in every thread but they never give any specific criticism. I can't see any obvious flaws with it but then again I'm not a weeb attention whore.
Oliver Hughes
Try Saya no Uta, it's a real ride. I can also recommend Fate/stay night but it's pretty long.
David Nguyen
I would say that it executes it well, as only a maximum of one character gets extra development per each new route, as they fill Rimi's place, effectively keeping the overall atmosphere the same (or even more enhanced, especially with Orihara's route).
Caleb Ortiz
I don't like lolis or lewd VNs, but from all of the reaction pics I've seen posted from it I do like the artstyle, at least compared to generic animeshit.
Brandon Wilson
its more about how to make settings, good characters and shit, after all a VN its just a book with pictures in it. There are some books that help you how to set up a story and stuff.
Dylan Reed
What are you, a homosexual?
Adrian Williams
No, loli is an eastern thing. Stop this shit.
Wyatt Watson
Steins;Gate is the only non-Otome VN I've ever enjoyed.
I still need to finish Norn9
Aaron Wood
Why are weebs so obnoxious?
Camden Thomas
loli love is universal
Lucas Bailey
child sex trafficking is a big issue even in the first world, but regional law tends to make it easier in Japan than in, say, the United States.
But Japan and the US aren't the only countries on the planet.
Basically, the closer you get to Russia, the larger the density of loli prostitution is.
Germany's closer to Russia than Japan.
William Lee
Literally not what I said. Loli is a term for an Eastern artstyle character.
I'd like to think that but tumblr nose really does not help. Also fuck casuals.
Matthew Phillips
i see how you are trying to merge cp and loli on your statement so i'll call your b8 a 1/10, you tried
Adrian Jones
see image
David Thomas
That is not true and never has been. It mostly refers to Jap drawings since it's mostly Japs who draw lolis but it's not exclusive.
Why do weebs have such an intense hatred of any girl who has a nose?
2d loli is pretty casual in general tbh
Elijah James
I'm confused at what point you're trying to make.
David Cox
the term "loli" is because of this
someone always tries to claim "3DPD, I only like drawn loli!"
Jordan King
It was a term coined specifically to those characters in the art style from Japan, which is of Eastern culture. It is exclusive to Eastern related topics as it was only used there until retards came around and had the misconception that it was a term applied to anything they thought was children. It's not because the existence of a nose, it's the way it's drawn. Western drawn noses are ugly as fuck and huge as hell- which is what the artstyle is. Noses exist in anime too, just more smaller and nicer looking.

Anyway lets get back to VNs, this derailment always occur when a supposed moralfag comes in, we should know better than to fall for the same bait everytime.
You can also take ideas from Tokimeki memorial 2 There is a phase where you play as a schoolkid, you can wander around town and make some friends, if you can befriend some of the girls they will remember about you when you meet them again years later. I think it was a nice detail.
Jose Taylor
No one asked for your opinion.
Reminds me of that one VN with the yandere that will say different stuff after you do her ending and come back to the game at certain times. >10 years later and the game still has new content
Carter Davis
would

Chase Ramirez
name of the game?
Aiden Williams
Pretty sure he's talking about Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi. It breaks the fourth wall in a few places and the yandere gets upset if you don't play the game for a long time. Too bad it's not translated.
Connor Morales
Duly noted. Thanks for answering the question.
David Russell
I dont think he was talking about kimi to kanojo
Kayden Cox
I think that if you come back to it after 10 years (or set your PC's clock forward 10 years) she says different things. I haven't read it though, so I'm not 100% sure.
