What's a good musou game to play on PC? The last I've played was Dynasty Warriors 5 where you got to make some peasant and have them be under someone's guidance(aka you get their weapons and moveset) and I really damned enjoyed it.

The files for all of the weapons and armor are there but they're effectively null items with no models. I was able to find and add all the Swordsman gear to my character's inventory but they couldn't be equipped and no inventory icons. They did have their flavor text, but that's it.

I tried Hyrule warriors and loved it.

Both from series I like, but one was good and the other wasn't.

I guess what makes a Musou game good is how the missions are laid out, In dragon quest heroes they were a bit boring.
The combat isn't very deep, but it's more about managing units, troops and bases in a dinamic battlefield to achieve your objectives without turn-based gameplay.

I thought kessen series was fun when I was younger but I haven't played any of them in almost a decade.

It's actually simple, there's two main different elements that can make a musou game good, you can either separate them and only focus on one and have that be the main reason why you play this genre, or combine them if you like both (but i can't think of many games that do both right).

You either like musou for the gameplay aspect, in that case Basara reigns suprene, pushing the genre as far as it can go before it turns into a straight up fully fleshed action game.

Or you like musou for the fanservice aspect.
Most people play musou for the fanservice aspect and that's why you'll see everyone fighting each other on what musou games are good and what aren't, because they're judging them completely on what is catering to them the hardest, for example Berserk fans will consider this Berserk musou to be the best musou ever made, regardless of it's gameplay, just like Zelda fans consider HW the best musou ever made, or people that are engrossed in chinese history consider DW games to be the best etc.

This causes a lot of problems and conclicting opinions between people that don't even fully realize -why- they like a specific musou over the rest, and will react violently to other musou because once they don't cater to them, all they see is the barebone skeleton and they judge it exclusively mechanically, the emperor is left without clothes, so to speak.

These are the main two elements, then there's other elements that play a role but aren't as divisive (they're more like complementary elements taht push you towards liking or disliking a musou), such as the number of characters you can play as, the number of enemies on screen, the map layout, the gameplay modes a certain musou offers.
I didn't list "character interaction" because that falls under the fanservice side, proper character interaction among each other is a big fanservice element.

Basara's format of basic string + special moves and assorted character gimmicks and cancels (evade, dash, skill-to-skill) really sets it far above the competition. I'm currently trying to play titty ninjas and can't help but think how Basara does things better.
KT's format of strings doesn't work for me and that's not even without getting into the game making the player run around like a headless chicken to babysit NPCs on the ass ends of the map (IMHO a massive problem with SB4 that shifted the focus from a carefree arcade pace to no-fun-allowed objectives).

As for Berserk, IMHO the genre is a poor choice. Anons already mentioned Dragon's Dogma and I think something like that crossed with Ni-Oh and made by a developer with the brass balls to properly recreate the manga's ambiance would make the source material much more justice.
We already know they're gonna mellow it down (IMHO the Caska teaser was just to get people to notice a Musou game at E3) and they're gigantic kikes with all their DLC bullshit so I don't have much faith in this title. Besides, I don't think Mozgus will be playable; they'll rather fill up the roster with a bunch of versions of a few characters.
A transformation mechanic like a sort of super mode would probably work wonders in this game since a lot of the key characters have those but I imagine that's a lot of work for KT and those idol costumes for Schierke aren't going to make themselves.

What characters are you hoping to be playable? Guts and Griffith are obviously in, and Golden Age Casca seems likely, but what minor Berserk Characters do you want to see?

I skipped 4 and went straight to 4 Sumeragi and yeah, some maps have strict objectives that are annoying, with the Tsuruhime boat stage what i consider to be the worst offender of all, searching for the bells is incredibly unfun.

However even with this limitation Sumeragi is still by far the best Basara ever made, all the characters being so fleshed out, all the new characters being absolutely amazing to play, switching R2 skills on the fly, the added L1+square skill for everyone, just frame dodging, amazing weapon customization where you can just pick any "skin" as a base for the weapon you want (we don't have to stick to joke weapons on every fucking character just because they're the strongest, that shit got old fast).

I miss Conquest Mode from Utage but that's pretty much it.

I think Musou would work well for the Golden Age, but post-eclipse would be better off as a somewhat faster Dragon's Dogma with dismemberment, switching to full-on CUHRAZY when the Berserker Armor kicks in.

You've got a decent point there, but it's missing something. There are distinctly good and bad Koei-Tecmo musou games that are just tribute games to another series which Koei-Tecmo know full well is an easy cash grab for them. While the overall mechanics of a musou game don't generally change, it's the little details that make or break it. Good KT musou games do their best to feel like their source material, while bad ones are essentially model swaps of any DW game. HW is well-regarded because of the consistent in-game items for use in-battle, along with how well Adventure Mode fits the general "scheme" of a Zelda game while keeping to the general musou formula. Well, that and being the first Koei-Tecmo musou game on a Nintendo platform with a not-retarded control scheme. Sengoku Musou 3 on the Wii was fucking terrible.

Another one of the KT musou games that I, at least, personally consider to be some of their best work is the Hokuto no Musou games. They ooze the style from the anime and manga, with enemy deaths varying based on what martial arts style you use on them (they swell up and explode from Hokuto attacks, Nanto attacks cause them to fall apart in pieces, standard attacks cause generic fall-downs, etc.) Using named Finishing Moves on an enemy causes the screen to jump-cut a few times before announcing the move's name, like what you'd see in the anime. Enemies start to cower and fall apart after you defeat a fair portion of their squad, but will reform and focus on your character when you taunt them (and even get a boost to attack if you taunt them too much.)

So what would I consider a bad musou game? Honestly, Warriors Orochi 3 is what I'd pick to be the prime example. Along with being DLC-infested, it generally added nothing new to the formulas that WO and WO 2 started. Save for a few characters from other KT properties that, really, had no reason to be in the game (like Ryu Hayabusa,) WO 3 just didn't feel like a natural extension of the same world presented in WO and WO 2. None of the characters had died either in or out-of-game, despite their natural rivals and enemies from both past and future being equally present (including that fat fuck Dong Zhuo.) Orochi's army of snakemen hadn't diminished or disbanded and still remained deathly loyal to Orochi only, despite their leaders being either slain or cast to the wind in a desperate bid for survival. The sudden interference of the "gods" in the middle of this giant conflict made no sense, since humanity had handily given Orochi a thorough smackdown twice already. Nothing about the game felt right for the precedent set by Warriors Orochi 1 and 2.

See, it's completely inconsistent, i've heard people say that the HnK musou games are some of the worst games they've ever made, and many people, including myself, consider WO3 to be a really good game.
The entire reason why i think WO3 is good is because it throws five million characters in your face and also gives you tons of character interaction between them, it's essentially like smash bros: musou edition, a clusterfuck of fanservice ejaculating in every possible direction.

It's really hard to come to a consensus on some games, they're so specific on what they offer to the player and what each person "resonates" with certain elements in each game that someone will find a game utter shit, and someone else will love that game because it does ONE THING they really like and since most koei musou are so similiar, sometimes that ONE THING elevates it above the rest in their eyes.

I completely agree with you plot wise on WO3, but the interesting thing is, i completely didn't care, the plot never even remotely registered in my head on any serious level as i was playing it, it just felt like "let's cram as many characters in this bitch as possible" battle royale type of scenario and it was in such a large quantity i couldn't help but enjoy being overwhelmed by it, that alone made me like the game.

Also i admit i might have somewhat of a fetish towards Sun Wukong in any game where i can play as him so that's a big factor too

SB4S has the best core gameplay in the series but I don't find the stages fun to play mostly because I get my kicks sitting in one spot and killing everything, something 4 doesn't offer as plentifully as the prequels.I prefer Utage; no all R2s but the stages are overall funner to me. But it's a personal preference so I'm not faulting SB4's level design choices.

I just visualize this eerie post-Grigori Dragon's Dogma atmosphere with the world overrun by monsters (in itself, a element taken from Berserk) but much more organic, with the monsters raiding villages and Guts having to save people or sit there watching the wench getting TROLLED.COM.
Musou enemy numbers in some sections would be pretty good. A gazillion bonewheels would give some soulsfags a heart attack.

I think it's fairly likely that the game will have some sort of transformation mechanic, since so many of the most probable playable characters can do something along those lines.

That's sorta boring tho, i'd like for each character to be able to switch forms at will, or perhaps just have both versions of each character, it would pump up the roster.

If that teaser trailer is anything to go by, I would assume it has some nudity. Fist of the North Star musou had gore in the western version, even though Jap version didn't. So maybe Berserk musou will have gore and nudity in the western version, but not in the Jap one.

As already said, he needed the power up since everything else is getting buffs and the armor does create a large strain on his mind and body. If anything, having Isidro and the -_- cuck kill all the peons so Guts can focus on the boss fight while Schierke sits back as the wake-up Ultra come back are IMHO the biggest issue as it's no longer one man going alone against impossible odds (I admit I don't remember much but I don't think Skull Knight intervened all that much).

I'm a very critical person, but Berserk is a top-tier manga in pretty much every respect. To be fair though, there are other similarly amazing manga out there.

Skull Knight didn't help Guts in a fight any other time than in the Eclipse where he saved Guts and Caskas lives. Other than that, he was always doing some solo shit in the same locations, but not intervening in Guts's fights at all.

But that wasn't even why it was better as dark fantasy. It was just because I'm not into high fantasy. This is just boring. Yeah, you stopped getting shocked by all the terrible things happening in Berserk all the time, but that didn't make it any worse, it was still a shitty and depressing world and it made Guts's struggle seem amazing.
