Sonic Adventure 3 Battle

So, I'm curious, when some of you guys say you want SA3, do you mean you want an ENTIRELY new game, or an extension of 2 ala '06? This is something I've been wondering, since every time a new game comes out, people flip their shit, and complain.

If SA3 were to come out, it would be extremely different, with it's direction, voice actors, musicians (other than Fumie Kumatani and a handful of others), and plot. I feel it would be more of the first SA rather than the second, which would piss off the most autistic fans, I wouldn't mind it, personally, as long as I get my Chao Garden, I'm happy.

I want Sonic/Shadow gameplay from Adventure 2.
Or something close, with the emphasis on style, score-attack, and FREE-MOVEMENT.

When people say Sonic Adventure 3 they mean a return to that style of Sonic gameplay, as opposed to the "boost" style used starting in Unleashed, and the various gimmicks in Heroes and Shadow that, while still kinda close to Adventure 1 and 2, made them pretty different.

Personally, I would also want Adventure Fields back. When done right, like in Adventure or Unleashed, they can add a lot of fun, though hopefully with the advances in tech since Sonic Adventure we can have much bigger and more lively ones now. But even on the Dreamcast, it was a lot of fun to run around looking for Emblems, Powerups, and talking to all the NPCs, who actually had a really surprising amount of detail in each of their plots. All this said, I could understand if others didn't like them, since it's not really what you think of when you think of Sonic.

tl;dr: Go back to the old style of 3D Sonic gameplay. Other characters and Adventure Fields can maybe be included but aren't necessary.


'06 is the one that actually plays like Sonic Adventure, though. It's just not even close to finished or close to good. Heroes is the better game but it plays very different compared to Adventure, while '06 is the exact same style. It also improves on a lot of concepts from the other two games. Shadow still basically plays like Sonic, only now he has more offensive capabilities while Sonic has more agility. (Shadow is also slow as shit, but then that's one reason it's a shit game.) Tails actually gets to explore the level since he's not constantly in a race now. Knuckles still has exploration sections but also more classic "get to the end" sections. To this day I contend that if Sonic '06 was finished, it could have been the best one. Instead we got an Alpha Prototype that didn't even have time to hide the fact it wasn't finished.

Also, Unleashed's Japanese name is Sonic World Adventure.


THIS. The extra missions and ranks in Adventure 2 were the best part. Some later Sonic games tried to do stuff similar to this, but none got it quite as good. Adventure 2 was helped by having a lot of unlockables spaced apart just right. You unlock something every time you beat all missions with any character, then when you get all A Ranks with any character, then when you 100% the game. And the unlockables get better as you go on. First alt costumes, then new characters (sure they're really just alt costumes but it's still cooler), then an awesome secret level. The unlockables in this game are really underrated.

This too. Fuck boost. Adventure did a fine job translating the 2D games to 3D. Boost sonic is a totally different thing. it's more just a translation of the shitty Dimps games.

Isn't Tails canonically as fast as Sonic? I thought that was the whole point. He uses his tails as a propeller and thus he's the only one who can keep up and be Sonic's sidekick.

I think that wanting anything from sonic will end in disappointment since all they can produce from it is shit.
It can be good but why try since were all coming back to it like beaten housewives.

Tails can keep up with Sonic because Sonic usually doesn't run nearly as fast as he possibly can. Knuckles can also keep up with Sonic in that sense.

But Tails literally does run as fast as Sonic, at least in the early games, whereas Knuckles does not. Plus the tails are literally used as a justification for why he can keep up with Sonic.


Half the story for Sonic 2 is just justifying Tails being as fast as Sonic.


The games used to have a pretty tight canon though. It was only Unleashed and later (mostly later, Unleashed still works well at least thematically) when they stopped paying attention to it. But even then they don't seem to just outright contradict it.

Ever read the proposed stories for Sonic X-Treme? Some of them were sequels to Knuckles Chaotix (which in Japan had a less retarded story that directly follows Sonic & Knuckles). Sonic Adventure is literally just taking the backstory established in Sonic 2 and 3 and showing it in flashback cutscenes. It also takes a lot of elements from those Sonic X-Treme plots.

The guys who wrote these games used to be more autistic than anyone realized, because the localizers didn't give a shit and butchered all of it. But they used to give a shit, even if that all went out the window after '06 bombed and they decided to listen to the "fans" and throw out the entire story.

If it was Adventure's fault for whetting peoples' appetites for so many different things, then they wouldn't have responded by throwing out practically everything that was in '06, including the entire Adventure formula, for "go fast" and "no story," which are only things people who weren't actually fans wanted in the first place. It wasn't that people wanted too many different things that were in Adventure, it was that so many people were complaining about various parts of the Adventure formula, and then about the colossal shitstorm that was '06, that they threw the baby out with the bathwater and decided it would be better to start from scratch. Now we get shitty Dimps-tier level design that makes you feel like you "go fast" even though it has barely any actual platforming, and no story. Because that's what "fans" wanted. Go fast, no story. Oh, and no alt characters either. They tried with the werehog but learned their lesson after that. It's not like Sonic 3 & Knuckles had alternate characters.

Sonic Boom is a whole other deal, being a tv tie in that Sega of Japan clearly didn't care about.

I doubt fans and "fans" wanted sonic boom from all the problems they had with 06 and I would say boom is proof that SEGA doesn't really listen when it comes to sonic. Even at that point there was some positive receptions from colors and generations but if you say so.

Boom is not a mainline Sonic game. It's a spinoff tv tie in made purely by executives, many of whom were tv and toy executives and not even video game executives. Boom is a totally different beast than most Sonic games, by sheer nature of being a tie in game. It was also not even originally intended to be released in Japan. It was clearly a very low priority for the company's japanese heads. They just handed it off and figured it would rake in the money on account of the tv show. It's not like it was a real, japanese Sonic game.

As far as I'm concerned, Boom just made double sure that Sega would remember to not rush the real games that I actually care about. If it wasn't for Boom, Sonic Team probably would have been forced to shit out a half finished real Sonic game for the 25th anniversary already. Because of Boom, Sega is probably on edge enough to actually make sure it's good before it's released. Even if it will probably be announced in a month or so.

I would like Sonic Adventure 3 to be what Sonic Adventure 2 was to Sonic Adventure 1, a similarly-made sequel that built off the positives of the previous game.
People say they want Classic-era physics back but what I really miss is the weighty feeling Sonic Adventure 1/2 had.

Remove the gimmicky mech levels
Make the treasure hunting games better and on bigger areas
Make it a whole lot more Sonic focused with the ability to switch to some other character for the extra tokens
Don't add shit minigames
Add the chao garden in an improved and bigger format
Make it so performing well in the levels or on chao garden activities influences the other part of the game
Use less stereotypical levels
Make grinding actually functional instead of weird as fuck
Less scripted loops
Fill it with cheat codes like seriously how dope is that when you input random shit and a new menu appears

Nah pretty sure Normal Tail's Max is 500km/h or so while Sonic's is a bit past 1000km/h

Free movement. While I wish for more free movement in 3D, the previous 3D games before the boost games weren't better in limited space. Instead of a 2D space, you're surrounded by pits and speed boosters that always points to a linear path where speeding feels like a cutscene than something interactive. At least boost requires some skill to keep moving and it's pretty satisfying, but yeah I want the controls from Unleashed and Adventure alongside a hybrid of boost and Adventure platforming.

You just suck at the games. The Adventure era games function the same was as the Genesis games. You can go fast if you're good. Boost does not require more skill. If you get hit, you hold Boost and immediately get almost to top speed. In the Genesis and Adventure games, you have to actually build up your speed by being good at platforming. It's the Boost games that feel like cutscenes, because they essentially reduce the game to QTEs.

You vastly overstate both pits and speed boosters in the Adventure games, but especially speed boosters. There really aren't that many. Are there any in City Escape? Lost World? But still, I would use even fewer of them. That's a problem with the level design though, not the basic style of gameplay.

And even the levels that have tons of places where you can fall to your death still had lots of secret areas and shortcuts. The Boost games can't have much in the way of exploration because GOTTA GO FAST. You might find a few shortcuts but the game doesn't let you look around and explore to find shit, even though that was always a part of the old games. I mean so many people here say Sonic CD is their favorite, and that's probably just because they were too poor/young to have a Genesis and it was the only good game their europoor parents got them on Windows, but if they legitimately like it, the only thing that really makes it stand out is how much the gameplay revolves around exploration compared to the other Genesis games. You have to look for Time Posts to warp to different eras, Eggman's machines to create Good Futures, Metal Sonic Holograms to bring the animals back. That type of exploration is completely off the table with Boost Sonic.
