Today I won the Bug-Off in New Leaf with a peacock butterfly. It was also Cookie's birthday, so she was stuck inside. She did come to congratulate me for winning the Bug-Off, though.

Since your emulating you can't play new leaf, although I'm not entirely sure if i'd recommend it anyway, since it has a lot of negatives that come with the positives
I wouldn't recommend city folk, mostly because grass dies crazy fast and it's not exactly comfy being forced to not explore the town if you don't want it to look like a desert. Although there are probably ways to get around that by now
wild world is a solid entry but it's designed for portables, so the res and quality is pretty shit
Gamecube AC is pretty good and I'd still recommend it the most out of the series if you haven't played any other games, lots of charm and definitely the most 'comfy' but lacking in a lot of mechanic advancements the newer installments have, managing inventory is real a pain and I'm pretty sure there was no catalogue in the western GC AC (there is in e+ though). Although with the delivery code system you can get access to items from a list of the codes, which makes the game less rng-y if you're trying to design a particular type of interior or something
That's what I thought it was from what I played. I suppose it's just not my kind of game. I was expecting something more engaging because of how popular it is.
You don't have to master fung shui, just decorate as you want, or focus on collecting all of a set to display in your room.

My rooms have always been separated into different themes in each room. One would usually be my room, (the upstairs), the downstairs was usually where it would be a hang out place, a kitchen room, a den, and a lounge room, to sort of emulate my real house at the time.
My New Leaf home now consists of mostly the same thing, but I set up like a porno set. Because why the fuck not?
Other than that, it's pretty normal.
Mostly consists of shit I added as Mayor. The townspeople themselves I don't really know much about because I keep to myself and work while they keep asking me to add shit for them.
I'm a busy man damn it, I work day in, day out by fishing and selling.
