It is my sincere belief that many people here are becoming like the cattle we had previously striven so hard to rise above. Any strain at all is going to influence it and force it to adapt, and with all these minds consensus is going to be enough harder to shift to any one thing. The thing is stagnation will chase off a lot of your core, even if they proudly claim otherwise the numbers don't lie. Keeping a small and steady steam of newblood coming in is the hardest part, and usually requires people out there on the ground recruiting with an eye to quality. Everything I was talking about was in the context of imageboards, their userbases and moderation. As I conceded things are different on 8ch and any site that allows private ownership of boards, but these are still problems that plague us as a "community", even if it stays in the irc and outside of the average users's experience. I think I should've clarified this. I believe memes are pseudo-living beings like a virus is a pseudo-living being. By virtue of the fact that memes are not always capable of being transmitted and that there is limited room/real estate in the human in mind for the existence of multiple memes, evolutionary forces are at play.
You can see this in some oldest memes in the world: religions. Another curious thing is how r/K selection theory fits into all of this. On sites like reddit and facebook where upvotes and likes determine the level exposure to minds, memes there evolve using an r strategy. It is more effective to be able appeal to the lowest common denominator in order to reach the most amount of minds possible. The issue with this, is that these people are usually fucking idiots preventing memes from using an individuals brain power to evolve itself into something with more staying power and complexity. This usual manifests itself on image macros with a simple picture and a caption. All r-type memes seem to follow this general formula and can be organized into a taxon (for simplicity's sake and for the fact and I'm too lazy to organizing memes into a tree of life I'm going to keep on refering to them as r-types). Now on imageboards, on the other hand we have the unique conditions where memes have to follow K-type selection to be most effective. Imageboards are one of harshest conditions for a meme to survive in. The lack of upvotes and likes, and the fact that more controversial topics gain more (you)s mean that appealing to the LCD isn't effect. Staying power is more valuable than the ability to reproduce so imageboard memes result in the some of the more complex memetic organisms known which why normalfaggots have a hard time understanding our memes since they are so abstract in meaning.
