With nuDOOM, I knew to expect a lame watered-down multiplayer, but I was hoping for it to be at least as fun as Minimum was.
It seems like a weird comparison, but it was also a loadout-based team-based shooter with simplified movement, but it was still really fun; so I didn't think DOOM could do worse.

DOOM actually showed me what merit Minimum had.

NuDoom was an abomination comparing to the OG Doom though, and Doom is technically better than Quake 1, 2 and 3 in level design, enemy design and moddability.
Q4 was just simply as bad as Doom 3 was comparing to the old games, another Quake 2 but with more 'doom and gloom' as they like to call washing down everything in fucking 60 different shades of brown and darkness. D44M is like comparing Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun to fucking C&C4, it's simply but an insult to the franchise as a whole, it shouldn't exist.

I bought Doom today and played it for about 30 minutes. I started on the hardest possible difficulty that you can do and it was fucking casual as hell. Literally health EVERYWHERE and monsters are easy as fuck. You run slow and you are stuck with a walk->slow spring movement.

The game does not reward skill. I thought I would stop using shotgun and only go pistol to make it more challenging and my headshots are not rewarding as you have to do the glory kill garbage to get any health or ammo. Fuck that game.

I am in the process of getting a refund.

Quake with a class system. That should be enough for you to understand. Also it's called Quake. Not Quake 2016, not Quake: Subtitle. Just Quake.

Warsow might be forked by the developers because of differences between them and the founder, regardless the Qfusion engine it uses is still being worked on actively.

OpenArena's OA3 update is still being worked on apparently, mostly consists of assets though

Refund it, it doesn't get harder, it's a flatline in difficulty all through because beth can't into level design. Even Episode 2 in Doom is more challenging than NuDoom's later levels.
