Honestly, the trailer struck me as the devs saying to the audience, "We're not gonna stray from makes berserk, berserk. We're gonna do our best to encapsulate the same tone the manga portrayed to the best of our abilities and give it the justice it deserves." My experience was with the Mangasee upload, which appears to be equivalent to the bakabt link gave after cross-referencing a featured page from chapter 119, and possibly also to Mangalife when checking over one of my favorite sequences in chapter 303. Having not read the Dark Horse translation, I cannot give you an educated opinion as to which is better, but it all seemed to be coherent and accurate. The comments at bakabt indicate that this is a multi-source scan, using both DH issues and scanlations at the discretion of the compiler. Mangasee is as good a source as any, I imagine, or the torrent if you want it all on hand.

The intro just by itself captures Berserk's tone really well. It's gloomy, saturated in crude, unrestrained violence, and the only way out of it is to carve your way out, and only very few people have both the willpower and the endurance necessary to do so. Even still, refusing to accept a forced upon fate will take a very long time rather than a single test or battle.

Midland and everything around it is not a nice place to live in at all. Guts himself barely survived being born, he was prostituted by his adoptive father, and later forced to live on his own, and the only way he knew how to live was to just get paid to kill whoever he's directed towards.

The women in Berserk don't have it any better, and they live in a world where each lady is perfectly valid for carrying at least a knife on their person, but they still do not have a place on the battlefield, as even the stronger men die like flies and the strongest men are not concerned for anyone who stands in their way or rallies with them.

Lives are constantly on the line in Berserk. Why bother proving a point if you need all the energy you can to run or fight? Caska was a Hawk not because of GRRL power, but for the same reason that Griffith attracted all the other Hawks. He has charm, and the Hawks felt like they had a purpose to strive for in life. This isn't proving a point, it's trying to be alive as much as you can in a world where death seems more common than birth.

How a feminist can somehow enjoy Berserk is beyond me. It is logically impossible to care about something like feminism if you're struggling to not be on the bottom of the food chain.
