Whereas they were both complicit with selling user data, Jim tried to make Hiroyuki the fall guy because Hiroyuki was their inside man that made the process work. Hiroyuki is confident that he will be able to prove Jim wrong or at least claim innocence because he served Jim a lawsuit in Japan. The trial starts in November.

Also Hiroyuki made 2channel, but he relinquished ownership of it to Jim in 2012. Hiroyuki claims total innocence but it's extremely likely that he's merely obfuscating his involvement because his role in the company would have given him total access to the sold information. The infamous leak happened in 2013. If you go back to Hiroyuki's /qa/ intro where users ask him about this Hiroyuki is pointing fingers right back at Jim explaining how Jim was the one capable of storing user information. It's a he-said he-said situation except the true answer is they're both guilty. Except Hiroyuki is confident enough that he can win in court, not Jim.
