There's a GOG rerelease that sorta works. It has some errors which go on a case by case basis ranging from minor to game ruining. I'd try running the original version on a virtual machine if the GOG version isn't running for you.

It's essentially robocraft about cars on their warthunder engine.
Same features, same flows.
Sorta free building and fine graphics and same availability for OP guns on low levels, bc "small car with cannon" is close enough in points to a bit bigger (in amount of used parts) newb, plastered with shitty parts and armed with LMG. Also, fuckton of AI in combat, like 2x2 or 3x3 (out of 7-8 on each side) cars are actual players only. Maybe with open beta it'll be somewhat bettar, but fucked up gamedesign like "loose 1 point of base because some fagget spent a moment in a circle before being obliterated and then another hid in ruins long enough for very short round to end" and you've lost despite to be 5vs1 (99pts base vs 100pts enemy base). And they had this shit from alpha-stage development.

I always felt carmageddon was slippery when you're just holding down the accelerator so reincarnation didn't feel that different to me. They're releasing a new version of the game on console though but they're giving it for free to everyone who owns reincarnation on PC when the console version gets to PC, the reason I mention it is because they're adding back some of the shit I missed from 2 like cleaving cars in half.

Funny you mention that. The Vigilante 8 engine got used to make Star Wars Demolition like posted. It's actually decent though it has some funky ideas that might take a bit to use to even if you like V8.

I find that opponents are far too spongy and you're way too soft even with upgrades going full armor and offense and that's on medium. Driving is fine at low speeds but it's fishtail city if you're going fast and try to correct or turn.

I'd add Demolition Racer to that, all version have their own good things and bad thing but the DC version is the best.

Rogue Trip is worth mentioning too. Interesting mechanics, and some really crazy vehicles, like a mecha.

Interstate 76 is really complex to be honest, you can change plenty of stuff in your car, and you feel the differences.

If you want to play Vigilante 8 2nd, get the Dreamcast Version. It's vastly superior graphically, allows for 4 players splitscreen and you can access all the V8 levels with a simple code, no need to use the fucking Disc Locked Content from PS1 V8 2nd.

Twisted Metal for the PS3 is by far the best in the series, gameplay wise. Almost all of the classic vehicles are back, the levels can be huge or small, 4 player split screen and some crazy modes for the online. It lacks in the story department, but more than makes it in all the others.
And it can also be a Combat Racer.

For Combat Racers, I would recommend Blur, also have 4P SplitScreen and use realistic cars and energy weapons, but it's very well made and quite competitive.

Quantum Redshift was a little gem for the XBOX, fast, and with some really hard tracks, but great gameplay. Highly recommended.

Split/Second is very well made too, more simple, but you can get it cheap and it's worth it.

Sonic All Star Transformed also have 4p SS, plenty of really cool tracks and vehicles, but might bee too cartoony for your taste, so, you decide. But the highest difficult can really be challenging, and it surely extends the single player mode.
