Alright, listen up fags, i'm a total newfag to the series.
I posted a thread of this without realizing there was a Neptunia general.

I never gave a shit about this franchise until just recently, so i pirated Re;Birth 1. It's a fun game, but the translation just makes me stop playing it. I mean, i know this may sound repetitive to you at this point, but even with my little knowledge of nippon i can tell the translation is just not accurate in the english text, and i know this is NISAmerica's fault.

But seeing the OP, it seems you guys have no problem with the translation.

How do you manage to enjoy the game with that problem, or i'm just being a bitch?

Also, the english voices are awful.

I didn't mind the translation (RB2 on the other hand, is not only worse but inconsistent without retranslation) but then again, I played RB1 without prior knowledge to the PS3 games.

The Re;birth versions had some costumes missing.

The Re;birth1 translation is the best of the series, in terms of quality, as the translator was also the editor, which meant no extraneous memes. It's as faithful as it is to the source.

In comparison here's some of the most problematic lines of Re;birth2.

Some people like some of the voices, I won't bash them for that. I personally prefer the JP voices so thankfully Re;birth1 is dual-audio.

You're being hypercritical of the translation of Re;birth1, nothing wrong with being critical of things, just that there will never be a clean sounding direct translation of JP to EN without it either sounding awkward or adding/removing in words and context to smooth it out.

I'm more concerned that this is the introduction and its already this dark and affecting this many peoples' beloved waifus. Tell me what you think.

Something like that would end up like pic related with so many cute Makers taking over a single room to share goods.

I think there's some potential to the concept but you could pace it somewhat more slowly. This sort of feels like an outline to an opening cinematic, if you paced out what actually happens to the characters as things sort of gradually go to hell, you'll feel more of an impact.

Like here you have Compa, who we know who she is, and now she's cooking narcotics. That's a huge personality shift that you don't see her gradually slide into and, you could really have an impact if you show that slide from the start of the economic problems to the scene at the end.

I was rushing quite a bit, trust me this is just the start if I want to continue and there is support for continuation.

After last E3 they did a quick reveal of V2 so maaaaybe they do something like that this year too

The setting is rather heavy, but it's realistic considering the current status of vidya. Nice work on that one. Fearing the worst for Neptune and Nepgear, who would either be dead or forced to give themselves to others for enough Shares to love, and for Vert, who would probably be corrupted by some abomination related to W10.

As suggested, however, you should take the time to work on the setting change, it will help your story in the long run. But you should definitely continue.

It's very interesting, I'll give you that. The problem I have with it is that I can't recognize the characters. I don't see anything that makes Noire the Noire that I know for example. Not even a hint, except for the hair. You could replace the character names with something random and the story would be the same for me. Maybe personality changes was what you were going for, but making them completely unrecognizable is a bit too much in my opinion. Of course I can't judge a short intro too much and maybe including more buildup of what lead to these events will help like others said, but I hope you get what I mean.

I'd like to see more though, it's certainly an interesting setting.

Okay, here are some news that might impact the creation of new /nep/ threads.

The building I've been living in is finally about to be marked as unsanitary, after a year's worth of battles. There's a visit Monday, and from now on, I'll be in a constant state of preparation for a fast move. Which means I'll be way, way, WAY less present until I'll have moved.

On good news, that also means I'll end up in a cleaner house or appartment, with a monthly fee that's less than half the one I pay here, which means more vidya and perhaps a decent PC for neps.

On bad news, that means that I probably won't be there to make new nep threads. I'll do my best to keep some presence here, and I might throw one or another thread around, but most of the time, it'll be a quick passing before going back to making and closing boxes.

Until I'll be back and unless there's other people making the OPs in my absence, expect to see threads less often. I count on every of you to do your best to keep them present, though.

This is quite recurrent on settings or stories with lighthearted semi-perfect settings. Everyone loves to make them darker and edgier.

Look at Pokemon for another example. The games present it as a perfect world without strife or real conflict and the amount of ow the edge fanfics is outstanding.

Does that happen when you try to unpack another DLC? From my experience it's almost as if Winrar "overeated" and just refuses to work properly after 30 out of 50 files, I had to wait a while or restart my laptop and then it worked again

If Winrar complains I get 7zip to open it, if even 7zip complains, I try to redownload it unless it's huge.

none of the DLC files I linked in the guide are corrupted, it's all the matter of the unpacking programs

I've only had problems with the all-in-one MEGA file, so I'm manually downloading everything right now one by one.

So I'm in the middle of RB2's Chapter 2. I've applied the retranslation, and the title changed in the main menu, but I'm not sure if it works properly (or it just didn't remove and change as many things as I thought). Is there a dialogue in chapter 2 or 3 that is so different from the original, that I can't miss it?

They're really missing out on the whole foreigner aspect of Vert, and Kiniro Mosaic has made that sort of thing very popular now.

Very little of V/RB3 matters to V-II though so it's not like you have to play RB3 before V-II.

From what I remember at the beginning of V-II there's an offhand comment about the events of RB;3/V and that was it.

The only thing anyone really needs to know from V is who Croire is. But I think V-II gives a brief summary anyway.
Theres like 2 other references that have no impact in the understanding of the plot at all or anything.

The game is great overall. A solid traditional job based jrpg. Just make sure you get the first game and not bravely second. The first is much better.

Due to Second being a direct sequel of Default, you need to do Default first if you want to understand everything.

As for the games, they are good spiritual sequels of Final Fantasy V, what with the job system and all that. And should you enjoy Default enough to give a try at Second, be sure to either pirate it (the best option) or buy it used, as supporting Arfoire is much better than supporting NoA and Treehouse's policies (especially given that they tried to redirect the blame on Squeenix while they were the ones who had a hand in localizing the game, like what happens with Atlus and Tokyo Mirage Sessions).

Outside of that, the games are solid. Got a good 100+ hours on the first, and 50 hours on the second.
