The reason "video games must be recognized as an artform" thing exist was because of gamers. Back during the dark days of the likes of Jack Thompson and Joe Lieberman gamers pushed for games to be considered art as a hedge against censorship. And not just the "soft to firm" type of censorship we're dealing with today but actual, honest-to-God government censorship. I remember that there was even one judge that made a ruling that gameplay couldn't be considered art because it was distinct from the story and plot of the game.
What we as gamers didn't realize was that we were attracting a bunch of various "hangers on" to gaming that would eventually metastasize into what we know as SJWs once Thompson and the others were defeated.
In all likely hood we'll repeat the process as well. Once the SJWs are defeated we'll realize that some of our allies drawn in by one or more of our current "game defense methods" will want to censor or control gaming in their own ways and for their own purposes. History is cyclical like that.

Like i said Transformers is art the same way Blood Meridian is art, but one is worth engaging with and the other really isnt. So i believe when people say "this is art" , which is something with a low barrier, they really mean "this is GOOD art", something which is something with a much higher barrier.
