A small but substantial subset of America's population relies on coal for a livelihood, and for all the pollution it causes those in favour of more regulation (or the death of the industry entirely) really don't have anything in place to support the communities that will be damaged or destroyed by their policies.

Delaying the cessation of coal power is just going to result in more pollution in the meantime. Nobody is working on a solution to this; those people will be just as dependent on coal until we stop using it.

The government can just start up a re-training program or shuffle them off to do something else it's really not that hard
