Why has nobody recreated SS13 yet, in a stable engine? PULSAR is the closest thing I can think of.

Anyone can grab a gps and fire extinguisher and go get the coordinates. They spawn at the exact same location every round. You also have to fight your way through waves of bullshit just to get the gear. Thats like saying the fucking mosin in the safe is sekrit club bullshit because you don't know how to crack it.

Also, as for heads being all on the hard tier, it's because you're expected to know everything from your department and fill in if no one is working there.

The chemist's job is to produce chemicals and medicine for the crew's use. It is a judgment call whether to create dangerous chemicals or not. For example, giving sulphuric acid to a clown is probably a bad idea, but if the person is wearing a science labcoat? Go for it.

The captain's job is to produce and research plasma for NT. Most anything can be reasonably done in-character by saying "it's for plasma research"

Cargo Technician is arguably the best choice since you get to sit in the private cargo bay and fuck around with shit. Don't be afraid to ask in OOC for someone to help you out. Having someone fuck around with you for 30 minutes can be a huge help since you'll be shitting your pants as a new player when you have to do something involving another player like say, saving their life.

Start as an Assistant until you figure out the controls, since there's effectively no expectations of Assistants.

Once you're familiar, start trying other low-ranked jobs until you can do them competently, then work your way up from there.

Many people will tell you to do Cargo after Greyshirt/Assistant to get the basics, but i would honestly say that Borg may be a better choice if you can handle being limited by the laws and "RP".

It gives you all access and lets you stay out of the way of people for a good amount of the time and learn the areas you didn't have access to as a Greyshit.

As Engineerborg using the RCT to repair shit and other tools makes it easy to learn some of the crafting basics work and after roughly 5 minutes the base will have holes that you need to patch up so you will have shit to do and early on it never hurts to set up solars, learning space navigation at the same time.

As Janiborg your job is outright just running around for 90% of the time.

As Service you basically just google a song to play constantly while being ignored.

So all three are actually pretty good jobs to learn baselayout with.

Cargo techs are still expected to drag shit around once in a long while; assistants are better for just experimenting with what does what and getting the lay of the station.

Nonetheless, you are right that it is similarly low-expectation.
