Remember when notch posted on 4chan and posted about his game there and built up the early playerbase of eager autists that evangelized his game everywhere and got the ball rolling on making it a cultural phenomenon and ultimately getting Microsoft to buy it for 2 billion as a quasi-tax dodge. Well. I remember. Notch ftw.

Notch started going to reddit instead of 4chan and started implementing shitty ideas into his game. And once he started getting real money he just hired competent people to do his job for him while he constantly went on vacation with the ludicrous dosh he was making from an unfinished game.

lol I know. I remember getting insanely fucking angry at him (him, personally, I hated notch passionately) when I was trying to actually play minecraft while he as coding it.

Fuck it just makes me mad thinking about how he broke trees and made you build a scaffold every time you wanted to chop one down, and he didn't fix it for a FUCKING YEAR because he was too lazy to fix his insanely retreaded implementation of leaf decay that required the game to check every single block every single frame to see if it was time for it to decay.

The problem was the lack of useful things to connect to redstone. Pistons are really obvious but how long did it take them to get around to storage devices or arrow shooters and whatnot? Mods were way ahead on that front. Hell, are there powered lights other than the little redstone torches?

i think moot sold it under the impression that hiroyuki could make it profitable, but obviously you can't make something like 4chan profitable without huge changes to the site

i hate to say it, but people like notch or shkreli are probably the best options for funding it right now due to being filthy rich bourgies who have money to burn while testing out different ways to make it sustainable
