I just 'acquired' it. The map isn't quite as repugnant as I thought from the gameplay videos (I made a few changes), but it's pretty bad. "Historical German Portraits" is listed as DLC, so I actually get to see Hitler-sama (my copy is the something-or-other Edition).

They were also VERY lazy with portraits of less 'important' nations. The same sprites with a different suits are used throughout parts of South America, Eastern Europe, China/Asia and Oceania. I guess people are going to have to pay for those too.

I've only just started my crash course with Germany (I downloaded the game after I read this thread). A lot of stuff is simplified and even automated to the point where it does remove some user freedom, but so far its tolerable (especially if I pretend it's not HOI).

The bot/AI has shown itself to be fairly daft at this point. I intervened in the Spanish War on the side of Franco and won pretty easily with poor resistance. With two infantry divisions I seized Madrid and Barcelona and effectively won the civil war.

The lack of a real economy sucks. It's all about the factories (there' no money), which is probably why they restricted bombing some industries.

Reminder that all of South America is ruled by the same guy with different ties.

Works perfectly for me with SmartSteamEmu 1.4.0 and I was able to play MP all night. Other guy was kicked for having corrupted game state few times but I'm not sure if that wasn't games fault

Never played any previous games though, so I can't really say if it is any better than the originals.

You have no OOB but put a few Generals in charge of 24er Stacks of Doom (or an unlimited size if you promote them (that costs them 1 Level and their Bonus Traits)).
Research is a basic tree or in the case of doctrins. Choose one tree and you can't research the rest.
Unique "foci" that unlock after 70 days of research have succeded events/decisions and you should have researched everything by the year 1943/44.

There's also annoying inaccuracies that I've noticed, For instance there's an event where Rudolf Hess makes his famous plane-ride, he either dies or he gets captured, and the game claims they have no idea why he did it. Franco is for some reason as old as he was in the 50s/60s which is just strange.

Basically this game would have been 10x better if they simply implemented the numbers system for production and unit utilization while keeping most of the command structure and adding the AI battle plans and kept the unit counters that stack ontop eachother to keep from being stupid cluttered like the game is now. They took out alot of very useful mapmodes that allowed you to see simply what the fuck is going on, totally fucked up airwarfare, it's a fucking mess. One step forward two steps back I guess.

I had an idea a few years back about a GSG that used vector plotting to manage all the map details. Instead of province-based resources, pops, religions, and borders, have a bunch of vector blobs in multiple layers overlaid.

Then it’s just running some calculus to determine what area of the map is worth the most, you know? If gold, oil, wheat, and steel all meet up in one region, that’s going to get fought over.

Oh, and borders. Instead of bullshit modern day borders thrown back in time, BE FORCED TO DRAW YOUR OWN. If the state/region is too big, it won’t be effectively governed. Too small and the population and resources won’t be enough to be sufficiently self-sustaining and will be a drain on your nation (and create ire from your other regions who would have ostensibly equal representation). Snap borders to mountain range peaks, rivers, and lat/lon, or draw your own.

To be honest, guns are pretty problematic as well due to their phallic nature. They are also responsible for billions of deaths and hundreds of wars.

Why would I pirate a shitty game? This is literally not worth pirating. They spend barely any time on it, so they can shit out DLCs. The game is currently an inaccurate piece of trash with even a brain dead AI.

Also, does Germany EVER go to war with the Soviets? Because it never did in any of my playthroughs. Also, it is really hard to break out of stalemates.

Played 1933 to mid 1942 as fascist Britain, the game can only be described as surreal.

In all honesty it sounds more entertaining than HOI 3 and definitely more fun than all those HOI2 MP games with "SRS BSSNSS GAME, HISTORICAL ACCURACY TO THE MAX" I used to have on the paradox forums way back when.

For the entirety of 1 game. Then after that you notice nothing works because the AI is broken and the game has serious oversights in its fundamental mechanics.

Why even waste the time to begin with?

The Holocaust not being part of the game is to be expected but still, it would be interesting to see that as a game mechanic. Considering the fact that it is alleged to have started during the war itself, you would end up having to make the choice whether to continue keeping them alive risking that enemy forces free them in order to get them to fight you and having them take up resources just to keep them alive or to go through with the extermination plans.
