Siege of Dragonspear discussions not welcome
It's an engine developed for isometric RPG games by BioWare in 1998. The main game series that use it are: Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment.
They're all fantasy role-playing games. They all take place in Dungeons and Dragons universe and use its rules.
Baldur's Gate: Has two games and one major DLC:Throne of Bhaal. Uses modified version of AD&D 2. edition rules. Focuses on combat and story equally, both are pretty good. The second game adds more companion interaction and romances.
You start the game as a young man/woman of 20s who has never left his/her town before. You don't know much about your childhood or parents. You've been a ward to a old mage Gorion as long as you remember and your best friend in the town is a girl named Imoen. The game starts when Gorion says you two have to leave the village
Icewind Dale: Has two games and one major DLC: Heart of Winter. First game uses the 2. edition rules whereas the second game uses a modified version of 3. Story is pretty much non-existent and it's not important, game focuses purely on combat. Has the best combat in Infinity Engine games. This game doesn't have companion interactions as you create them and they're not premade, unless you decide to mod it yourself.
You start in a tavern with the adventurer team you created. The mayor of the town wants you to investigate a town.
Planescape Torment: One game. Focuses all on story, combat is pretty shit and you can avoid pretty much all of the combat in the game. The game, arguably has one of the best written stories in any video game. Has the most companion/character interaction in Infinite Engine games.
You start the game as an immortal man who wakes up in a mortuary, who doesn't remember anything about his past, not even his name. You're immediately greeted by a floating skull who offers you help.
Best suggestion would be playing the game and learning as you play it, googling the problems you have or asking here. We might make a pastebin for this in the future
Except for bug fixes and wide screen mods, there aren't any other MUST have mods. I will make a pastebin of recommended mods if this general actually attracts posters
"Remakes" of the original games, promised with better graphics and bug fixes, features either of them. Adds some quests and characters with pretty bad writing. The only good part of it is it's also on mobile, so you can play IE games without having to fuck around with emulators. Still just pirate it.
I'm downloading BG again and wanted to make a thread about it and its mods, etc. But BG threads usually die early, like other IE games so I thought of making one big general to talk about all of them, as their audiences are pretty much the same anyway. I also thought of adding NWN but that probably would be overkill. We'll see how this thread goes.
A few questions to ignite discussions:
>What's the best romance and why is it Imoen?
Also keep Beamdog related discussion to minimum and talk about the original games, please.
