The creator (I forgot her name) kill herself. It was revealed by a friend that she hated her job as an animator and went into depression for years. She made the comics on her free time as a hobby and got a deal to make them animated.

I could see that. Being an animator in Japan doesn't really equate to much and is more suffering than fulfilling.

its basically that way here now too but the people stupid enough to get into tv animation are brain damaged individuals who are cut from the same cloth as the ones wanting to be "video game testers"

The story of the neko shorts and comics is really sad. It goes deeper than just what I posted. The Cat Soup movie was in a way a tribute to the original creator (her husband I think worked on the movie in remembrance to her). On topic; The Kyung & Friends comics in the OP are really good for what they are. I think they have the potential to be the new nekojiru if the art is improved and made on a consistent schedule. I would like to see more edgy-on-cute humor.

its really hard to find solid info on anything due to her being such a recluse. Some things point to drugs pushing her to suicide, others to Yomano's womanizing.

Either way there's definitely a cloud of melancholy that hangs over her work and legacy.
