Were there to be a WW3, and once in which we're not all (majority) killed off in the first exchange of nuclear missiles, China's primary advantage is their location, and defensive capabilities. That they would extend their military forces and naval unites by attempting to invade North America, would be pretty awkward.

It'd be a hit and run tactic navally, and consolidating their force in the region immediately close to China. Removal of US bases, refuelling facilities and any sort of extension of US air-capacity (as in, any nearby nation lending their airbases to the US, would be invaded and neutralized).

If the initial barrage of missiles is survived, - by anyone, you would want to incapacitate the mobility. The empire's force projection is dependent on its 800+ military bases.
