Why can video game movies never be good?

All normalfags will watch it. Regardless of how bad, how much lore rape it has or how retarded the characters look.

In Wacraft games, orcs were never Hulk like creatures. They only started buffing them in later wow expansion. Pay attention to Grom in cinematics or in game models. They were ripped, with a hint of agility.
Now with humans, they weren't like IRL males. They had huge arms and manly jaws, a bit smaller than the orcs, but still big and with exaggerated proportions, making them like a fantasy spinoff of human species. Just look at Arthas or Uther. Can you imagine what kind wimps will be playing these two.

Sargeras killed all remaining Titans "eons ago" in a huge battle and what we see now is just "Titan echo", he wants to kill everything in galaxy not because he is evil but because he and his Burning Legion they didnt do nothing they are good guys and just want to "purify" galaxy of "Void Lords" aka bosses of Old Gods who corrupt entire planets into "eternal nightmare"

Amon was actually a pretty well-written villain, probably the best part of the first season.

You can understand his goals and see why someone would want to rid the world of bending.

But any critical-analysis of what he is doing reveals why he was a threat that had to be stopped. Bending was the backbone of all of the avatarverse's technology, removing it would severly cripple the world's industries, most importantly was water-bending, which was the backbone of their medical capabilities.

The lives lost because of water-benders not being able to heal the sick would far outweigh any number of orphans that Bryke would hamfist with "my parents were killed by a firebender" backstories.

So does this film have any redeeming qualities then?

The impression I got from looking about opinions on the net is that it bombed with the critics, but warcraft's fans actually seem to like it.

Let me help you out there.

If their quarterly reports are accurate, their profits aren't "HUGE", at least not in a meaningful sense.

You see, it isn't about profits as a number, it's about the return you get per dollar invested. This is because the amount of dollars you can invest is limited.

When WoW was at it's hottest, I remember one report stating that their revenue for a single quarter was about 450 million dollars. But their total profit turned out to be about 150 million dollars. These aren't exact numbers but more or less what I recall.

What this means is that, if you are an investor, your relationship to this was "I give you a dollar, and you give me back my dollar and about 30 cents." Now naturally this is really several investors collectively because it's a public company, etc. But that is the essential relationship.

Have you read recently how hearthstone is doing? Last I checked the return was almost quadruple it's cost. That means if you gave them a dollar, they gave you back four.

Now imagine you are talking to blizzard and said "I'm going to give you ten dollars." And they said "Ok, we are going to take 9 of those dollars and put it in the machine that gives you back a dollar and 30 cents, and then put the last dollar into the machine that gives you back four dollars." The big question will be "Why not put all ten dollars into the second machine? STOP PUTTING DOLLARS INTO THE FIRST MACHINE."

You have to understand, WoW went from 12 mil at the start of last year down to 5 in half a year, and then blizzard said they were no longer going to announce sub numbers. These are "active subs" which means almost nothing, since if you read what they count as an "active sub", you will notice China counts as most of them, and if someone rented time for even a single hour, they counted as an active sub that month. The amount of people playing in America and EU is likely to be almost non-existent.

But then, why make all these expansions? Why not just shut the game down? Three obvious reasons:

1. Bad press. You look weak as shit if you just throw in the towel after how much they talk about WoW being the biggest game around. The appearance of doing well is more important than actually doing well in the business world at times (especially in terms of investment).
2. Bad blood. Players would be insanely pissed. Bad ramifications for future consumers.
3. They have drastically cut down on the resources they are investing into the game, and thus the cost as equally shrunk. Considering that the "expansions" are of the lowest quality, with extremely little actual content and assets being used, it is perfectly reasonable to think that they have shrunk the development team and budget to an absolute minimum, along with cost of talent (as it appears they brought in a completely green team a few years ago).

What I am trying to get at is that: WoW is old news, has been for a long time to the people that ultimately matter to Blizzard (the investors). It was never as hot as these new age mobile-style minimal asset games in terms of ratio. And not only do they have no reason to care about it, they actually have good reason to NOT care about it.

What a breath of fresh air.

Back on topic, was a warcraft movie ever going to be anything other the bad/semi-bad? Warcraft (after warcraft 2) has bad art style anyway. I honestly feel sorry for the actors, for the greatest act must have been doing press/interviews knowing that it was going to crash.

To be fair, they deliberately avoided attempting to have a faithful reconstruction of the events of early Warcraft, because muh making it appeal to a wider audience. Pretty sure I recall explicitly seeing the writers say that it was "alternate universe". That said, it could really go either way. People who actually play WoW seem to think it's somewhere between alright and very good (although that could be because Blizzdrone goggles), so the movie at least appears to be succeeding on that front.

When I said the last expansion would be everybody vs. everybody, I meant it as half of a joke! The other half was WoW ending with destroying and resetting the Universe to magically make everything alllll better.
