what are some games that are miserable and depressing in atmosphere? i guess an example i can think of would be stalker games, some of the time depending on where you are and how the weather is and stuff

Silent Hill 2. Really, any of the real (SH1, SH2, SH3) Silent Hill games have a pretty depressing atmosphere. It's an old, derelict town, devoid of any hope.
