I use MPC for most things, but I also use VLC when my browser decides it should because I once installed a VLC plugin that I can either have, or can disable and have nothing play. It wouldn't be difficult to fix, just change default applications. It would take less time to fix than to write this post. I will be using VLC for the foreseeable future.
